Name: Hachi Kano
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Class: Samurai
Clan: Kolat Clan
Appearance: Hachi is 6'1" at 220 lbs. He's got an athletically muscular build with tanned skin, long black hair and scraggly beard to match. His facial features are firmly chiseled, emanating a quiet stoicism overlapped by an otherwise fierce demeanor. He wears the battered ashigaru armor of his old clan. The Kolat fan insignia overlapped by the Tsubaki flower is still a vibrant white, contrasting with the dark blues of his armor. Its poor upkeep and visibly unremarkable design leave much to be desired.
The lacquered plating is held together with basic leather bindings. With the exception of his chest plate, the upper body is kept bare, arms freely unhindered due to a lack of shoulder plates and other upper extremity guards. The plated skirt connected to the lower torso of his chest plate dangles mid-thigh of his hakama pants, showing clear signs of wear and tear. The leather boots are perhaps the newest addition to his outfit. They were a gift from his superior officer, because Hachi's last pair barely qualified as sandals with how worn out they've become.
Weaknesses & Fears: - Pride is a burden yet to be lifted from his broad shoulders. His opinion is final, even if conclusive evidence suggests otherwise.
- Chaotic by nature, Hachi can be an unruly spirit, a known beserker both on and off the battlefield.
- Loneliness is a fear he dreads the most. It is why he prefers to be in the company of people, yet his brash attitude often prevents any meaningful relationships from developing. This causes an internal conflict of self-worth, but to be alone is to be exposed to his emotional vulnerabilities, therefore he clings to any sort of social distraction as much as possible.
- Claustrophobia since his childhood has been a constant fear. He does not speak on how or why, but he makes it known whenever tight spaces are involved.
Equipment: - Jade necklace: A gift from his little sister. It's a talisman that temporarily boosts adrenaline and endurance in the heat of battle.
- Armor Breaking Tetsubo: With enough force this metal stick has the ability to shatter heavy armor and stun large creatures.
- Tanto: Crafted by a Kolat smith. It is heavier than standard daggers of its ilk.
Bio: Hachi Kano was born into the Kolat Minor Clan located along the eastern coastline of Kujin. The Kolat were known for their weapon smithing and rice wine. They remained neutral in the civil war until a Minor Clan called The Iwomara pillaged one of their towns. Hachi's father, Daimyo Yasuki Kano, declared immediate retaliation. Unfortunately, The Iwomara made an alliance with The Lotus, whom quickly moved in to assist them against the Kolat. Yasuki sought out the help of the Tsubaki Clan. An agreement was made between the two families. Yasuki would offer up his daughter Abika through an arranged marriage to unite the clans.
From that moment forward Hachi dedicated his life to honoring the Kolat and Tsubaki name. Hachi eventually enlisted as an Ashigaru, fighting the Lotus at the front lines of battle. His method of combat was brutally ungraceful, a glaring contrast to the sword art of the samurai. Battles were won and lost as he participated in a number of campaigns. When the Asagao surrendered to the Lotus, it left the Tsubaki to fend for itself. Stubborn and unready to yield, they fought on, even after Uesugi Mitsuhide became Shogun of the land.
Hachi was eventually captured and made a prisoner of war. When the Tsubaki officially surrendered, he was released and sent back to his homeland. It was a crude transition period, especially for the unrelenting supporters of Tsubaki, but all eventually conceded to the Shogun's will. Under the new government, Hachi was transferred over to The Lotus Navy where he served as a deck hand. Tasked with patrolling the coast from pirates and marauders, Hachi gained notoriety as a fierce combatant and legend of the sea.
