It was actually several of his men that spotted the ambush predators first. Saef himself was too busy trying to figure out which of the brilliantly radiating houses was the brightest to notice the heat signatures of the "rocks" they sat upon. One by one his squad leaders called in the anomaly, pulling the Thaumaturge from his musings and directing him towards the possible threat.

They were on the ground by now, having landed nearby to proceed at a more sedate pace. So Saef had plenty of time to realize that the small hills the buildings sat atop were quite alive. And when one takes into account the fact that just about everything in the Nexus had some way to kill you the chances of them being friendly lifeforms dropped immensely. With a sigh he spoke into the comms.

"I want a full coordinated barrage on them ASAP. Bring out the missiles as well, it looks like they have some pretty hard shells."

Five minutes later all fifty men and women opened up on the crustaceans from seventy meters away. Hypervelocity missiles left trails of bubbles as they streaked into the rock like shells of their targets. Explosions erupted through the still water and were joined by the whine of the hundreds of high energy light packets following. None of the giant shellfish were likely to reach their attackers through the killbox that had been set up.

An interesting thing they had found while setting up said killbox. Apparently the entire city was booby trapped. Probably had something to do with that giant web of red lightning that had jumped over the area earlier. It hadn't done much other than slow them down of course. There was a limit to how well you could hide things with such a wide scale move. The technological traps were easily spotted by sensors and destroyed. The arcane threats were a bit trickier. Those that weren't spotted ahead of time slammed into the shields of some poor soldier, draining them but not doing much else.

Fionn Harken

Cleaning up and getting ready to go did not take long. All three members of the group were well practiced in the art of making and breaking camp. With each member seeing to their own task the party was on the road perhaps fifteen minutes later. As luck would have it Fionn had parked his ship in an area somewhat central to their recent travels. So instead of the days his misfit collection of do-gooders had spent wandering the countryside they now had roughly a day's march ahead of them.

Fionn walked the entire way. He probably could have rode on the wagon if he had wanted to. Grug was a nice enough person. But he wanted some time alone with his thoughts. The situation before them wasn't apocalyptic, not quite. It had the potential to be horrendous nonetheless. Necromancers didn't need population bases to wage war. They could use the bodies of their foes.

The Lich would be stopped, he was certain of that. There were champions out there just as formidable as the paladin who had stopped it last time. But if they failed and the seal broke completely millions could die before the threat was dealt with.

Evening was falling as the three reached their designation. At first it appeared to be nothing more than a large meadow. No different from a dozen others that opened up in the vast forest. Fionn took several steps out of the woodline and then very pointedly stopped, raising a hand to tell the others to stop as well. All was still for a second before the air in front of them shimmered.

KRS Wandering Guardian

It took up most of the large meadow, an absolutely massive construct to anyone born on this planet. As the group watched a ramp lowered from the side and Fionn headed up it. Upon reaching the top he turned around and spread his arms in greeting.

"Welcome my friends, to the KRS Wandering Guardian. My home away from home."

While an Order/Chaos dichotomy would be fairly interesting, you spend almost no time explaining what the first power let's your character do. Its all limits and very little actual description.

The second one is the best so far. As long as the person using it is a skilled surgeon or the like. That's some PHD level knowledge needed right there. And most people who reach that level of skill specialize on humans or a particular kind of animal.

The third one suffers much the same problem as the first. It doesn't tell us what the user can do. I also personally have to wonder if the user's normal life is effectively over at that point. It sounds like a very Fantastic Four Thing style transformation.
@Amaranth

Thanks. Just wait until the first time someone tries to fry them all with lightning or trap him in an infinite corridor.

Fionn Harken

It seemed that the other two had taken his question as somewhat more threatening than he had intended it to be. Anzu had already shown himself as non hostile some time ago. Pitch black and flaming or not there was no need to kill a peaceful creature.

"I'll help." Fionn said as he swallowed the last mouthful of meat and got up. He moved around the small campsite to collect the other's plates. It would take all day to get to where his ship was landed and the young mage didn't want to waste anymore time than needed.
Hey, wasn't joking when I popped in before. Have a thing.

I’ll see if I can work one more RPG into my schedule.

As it turned out High Command had in fact decided on a punishment. While not an official demotion, he was still a Captain, his command of a full company had been switched out for a platoon. Which meant that instead of leading two hundred men and woman into the water he was reduced to just fifty. It stung and definitely changed what he could do on the battlefield. But he could work with it.

Captain Harken led his troops into the water at speed. His new tome fading into existence behind him and a bladed wall of light appeared in front of the formation. With his new power such a move was nothing and it essentially turned the platoon into a quantum particle propelled airplane. Or aquaplane as the case may be. A few quick modifications to their filtration systems had optimized them for underwater breathing. The group could stay down there for days if needed.

It was a was much smaller battlefield this time. A mere fraction of the space taken up by the vast graveyard they had recently fought in. Of course when half of that space was taken up by the ruins of the city that had to be searched it suddenly seemed much bigger. They didn't have the time to do it the the ordinary way. So it was time to cheat.

Everything had some magic in it. Even if it was pointlessly small. Saef's training in the thaumaturgical arts had taught him how to see that magic in the form of auras. Lights and colors that varried depending on the power and type of magic in play. Something with the power of the staff they were looking for should be blazing away like a bonfire. After a quick scan of the ruins he directed his men towards the largest magical concentration of power he could find, placing a digital waypoint down and letting the suit computers work out the details of the formation flying needed to get them there.

Oh yeah something I noticed. A couple of the profiles seem a bit odd as far as the powers go. The invisible lady has had her power for the past year and the mind control dude assumedly got his as a result of a deal with Ye Elder Cthulian Stranger.

Can't say I mind the latter. More Lovecraft gives me more chances to banish it back past the Outer Gates, but thought I would inquire anyway.
