Force CS

Force Name: 7th Fallum Harvest Guard Army

Force Type: Seccessionist Army (IG Regiment)

History:
A newly raised unit from Fallum with the outbreak of open war between the Tímise Énosis and the Imperium at large. Originally intended to be another planetary defense force formation, the call of their Space Marine rulers have led to several field armies being sent to fight on their behalf on distant worlds. To meet their exacting demands, the formation of the 7th field army was greatly accelerated and the bulk of it’s ranks were filled with hastily levied militia troops before being shipped off world.

Their only combat experience so far was their first deployment at the mining world of Zeran, a low-intensity conflict between the heavy local defenses and six second-line Imperial Guard regiments which had bogged into a stalemate neither side was willing to invest seriously in breaking. While the 7th would not be a substantial breakthrough unit, they did their part to hold the line and continue the fight for eighteen months of skirmishing and limited field battle before being redeployed to Zeta amidst the hurried preparations for it’s defense against the Imperium.

Zeta will be the crucible to truly define the 7th Harvest Guard, or the meatgrinder that will end it’s story before it has truly begun.

Headquarters: Agri-world of Fallum

Strength: Approx 25,000 Line Infantry on paper, primarily militia levy with some PDF and IG-grade troops mixed in as NCO’s and officers.

36 Basilisk Artillery vehicles, arranged into three batteries of twelve but typically concentrated when and where needed.
30 Hydra Flak Tanks, arranged into squads of three and dispersed among units for overlapping anti-air coverage.
50 Chimeras
15 Gorgon Armored Assault Transports
19 Arvus Lighters, dedicated logistics shuttles under Garroway's direct control.

Tactics:
The 7-FHG prefers a doctrine of strategic offense, tactical defense. Striving to take major strongpoints with mass assaults, before holding them against enemy counterattack and forcing enemies to pound upon their defenses. Enabling them to concentrate the heavy weapons they have while limiting the range of actions their ill-trained militia units have to take. Defense is preferable to offense.

The 7-FHG prefer to keep at range, both due to lack of discipline among militia units to hold in melee and to leverage the sheer weight of ranged firepower they can bring to bear with mortars, rocket launchers, autocannons, and thousands of las-guns in unison. This is further bolstered by being universally equipped with Merovech-pattern assault las-guns, built for rapid-fire and twin power-pack slots, enabling even rookie militia to lay down a considerable hail of las-fire before having to reload.

Mortal enemy: Imperium

Fallum has secceeded from the Imperium, and is thus now locked in a brutal struggle for independence and freedom from the Administratum. To falter is to bring about the ruination of their home and to the Empire they belong.

Leader CS

Name: Helena Garroway
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Rank: Brigadier General

Personality:
Phelgmatic, quiet, focused. Not one to lead with grand speeches or action, but with consistent competence, diligence, and hard work. More of a skillset of an administrator or garrison commander than a frontline army sent off to war, but she doesn’t have time to panic or be over her head with a army to run. While her leadership is hardly inspired or inventive, she can make rote tactics and doctrine work more smoothly with her grasp of logistics, even with militia units.

Bio:
Born into a lesser house of the Fallum agri-aristocracy, the Garroway family primarily owned ranch-scapes and holdings on the more arid regions of Fallum, producing livestock products as well as some of the hardiest folk on the planet, resulting in the house also being a relatively militaristic house invested in the PDF.

[WIP]

Equipment/weapons: Chainsword, las-pistol, Merovech-pattern assault las-rifle, carapace armor.
@Skylar Well skype is free and relatively easy to set up, plus everyone is already on skype.

Right, gimme a sec then. I'll see what can be done.

EDIT: Got it, sent PM.
@SkylarHilarious. Pls PM me your skype info so you can be added to the conversation

Er, I don't have skype. Perhaps we can set up a chatzy for people who don't have Skype?
Interested in playing a seccessionist Imperial Guard unit. Should be interesting to wage war like this.

How much of the rebel empire is left for us to decide? Do you have plans already, or can we fit our own worlds and origin stories in?

EDIT: How is it I keep rolling female options on these tables? Every single time I roll on one of these. Must be compensating for the imbalance in the WH40k verse.

Oooh, gotcha. That makes some kind of sense I suppose, though it's still one hell of a fuck-up. So, I do have one question, like would these colonies have already all "hit dirt" as it were? And have already set up and began operations? Or would there still be some likely heading to their destination?

Oh, and guess what @Hael. I finished my NS! Granted, I still gotta do my Explorer's sheet, but that shouldn't take too long. Huzzah!

A mix of all the above. Some are already dug in and rapidly burrowing underground cities while strip-mining other sections of the planet, others are still in transit or are floating without guidance because of running into cosmic anomalies or stray fire on the way out of the Meknik cluster.

Between flash-clone facilities, heavy industry, Meknik work ethic, and disregard for the environment, a Meknik colony doesn't need long to get running. So the potential for interactions is very broad.

It could be interesting if these guys happen to stumble upon Ch'ak space. Well, not Ch'ak space itself but likely the deadzone full of empty (as in there aren't any celestial bodies left) systems or one of the few worlds with life that the Ch'ak'ii specifically 'claimed' because they're morally opposed to harvesting systems with native life. Could prove some interesting conflict, since the Ch'ak'ii would not like one of them popping into a protected system even before they realized the extent to which their mining operations would go.

But Jesus Christ, they manged to lose over 200 colonies? That should be a lesson in why you back up your files.

They were meant to be deliberately lost. They were last-ditch holdout colonies meant to escape the seemingly apocalyptic war the Meknik's were in to form bastions and fleet bases to continue the war outside of the Meknik local cluster. Unfortunately, the war never went to the extreme the Meknik's thought it would, and a lot of their documentation and ultra-secure comm systems got blown up or destroyed to keep them out of enemy hands during the middle part of the Establishment War. So now they got 200+ colony missions unaccounted for, all of which were heavily armed and militarized.

But yes, this is a major fuck-up the Meknik's are really regretting and are trying to clean up. Should make for interesting times when contact is made.
So, who wants to trip over a lost Meknik colony world? A group of low-tech industrial dogs, who happen to have a lot of nuclear weapons and tend to strip-mine and exploit worlds they are on. Even precious habitable garden worlds or those with pre-FTL species.

The Union really has a lot of messes to clean up. The Lost Margin and the Dark Void Armories are two of them. Would be interesting to play around.
The Meknik Union
Muster Point Echo, Grey Fleet deployment zone.

In the dark space between worlds, a fleet base hung in orbit of a rogue planetoid without a star. A hidden base from which to wage war against enemies whom being in line of sight was enough to put one in the crosshairs of death. Secrecy was it's shield more than the hundreds of starships cradled in it's dockyards and hovering in orbit. If need be, the base was one of dozens meant to support and wage war decades after the collapse of the society it was meant to protect.

A mentality of absolute bayonet-point warfare the Union was now paying for, Admiral Angevian sighed as he turned away from the holo of a starscape. It would be so easy to lose track of these bases if it weren't for encrypted locator beacons on obscure frequencies of cosmic waves. A mere misalignment of a single beacon could cause a base like this to be lost, as it was meant to be by design. A fleet base capable of sustaining a entire battlegroup and support elements could be lost by accident and left in the hands of the crew relentlessly drilled for contingencies against discovery by ruthless alien enemies.

Only the enemy was far from ruthless, and had never meant the war to go to the extremes it had......

"Admiral Angevian?"

The greyfur Meknik perked up in his chair, mentally returning to the meeting he was sitting in. Fortunately his daydream had gone largely unnoticed in the reception of the standard general report. Daydreaming during a fleet planning op would have been far worse, but his aide had politely poked him back into reality, which he thanked with a nod as the General Report concluded and the meeting shifted to the real subject of the day.

"So in summary Admirals our internal matters are, while not entirely stable, are under control for the present time. There should be no draw-down of forces slated for the Grey, Green, or Blue fleets or the upcoming operations." Finished Fleet Admiral Rawne.

"Thats a first." Angevian couldn't help but comment, to the agreement of most of the other Admirals in the room, used to shortages and squadrons being called upon to deal with some stray fire somewhere.

"Parliament is taking the recovery of the Lost Margin and the Dark Void Armories very seriously." Flatly replied Rawne. "With the original records destroyed, we have over two hundred large industrial colony missions unaccounted for, launched in the general direction of a cluster we now recognize as being not just inhabited but likely occupied by FTL-capable alien races unlike anything in our local cluster. The possibility of provoking an outside power and sparking another war is a very grave risk ladies and gentlemeks. Worse, these are colonies that do not have access to the Ultani industrial technology we have acquired, which means a repeat of the same garden-world strip-mining and exploitation that got us into this mess to begin with. We must find those colonies and get them to stand down at any cost."

"What about the local Resistance? Taking away this many carriers is going to embolden their fighting spirit." Inquired another Admiral.

"The Resistance is running out of steam and spare parts, we have confirmed they are no longer able to maintain their plasma lances. This takes priority."

"Gonna be a long patrol for those involved." Said Admiral Gaven, looking up at Angevian. "Theres a damn high likeliness you won't be coming back for years."

"Decades." Angevian replied with as much nonchalance as he could muster. "Its going to be six months before we even reach the first survey point to even start scanning. Even with a 200-ship expeditionary force, theres a ton of space to cover. I'm willing to do it. So are my crews. Afterall, there is a serious chance we may have to expand and develop upon those Armory colonies, am I right?"

"Yes. There is no telling what distant alien worlds may hold." Rawne agreed. "The discovery of Tessium on Ajaxis turned our nation's understanding of armor-piercing metallurgy on it's head, plus the unique assets of a dozen other worlds. Those Armory Colonies are just as much a potential asset as a risk. Understood?"

"Crystal. I will find the Dark Void Armories. We march in a week."

"Admiral Gaven, are you prepared to track the Lost Margin?"

"We're just waiting for the last division of scout sloops. We'll ship out in two weeks at the latest."

"Good. This is a big damn mess we have to clean up, and we have to get it done fast before someone else trips over those colonies. Still, given the Parliament's overwhelming support for this search-and-secure, I would also like to discuss contingency plans for further expeditions. As Admiral Angevian said, its a big galaxy out there. We need to be ready to make the most of however many ships we can wrangle away from occupation efforts-"

As the meeting shifted towards mechanical details of deployments and maneuvers, Angevian's eyes were once more drawn to the holo of a starscape. He couldn't see the stars in that image, only the ghosts of the dead hovering outside the station. Millions upon millions of ghosts looming all around him, rapping on the windows and bulkheads reminding him of his purpose. To not let those deaths be for nothing.

This would not be enough to wipe away the stains of death on his dirty paws. But perhaps it would be the beginning of reconciliation with his ghosts.

"Admiral? You are daydreaming again. Do you need a stim-patch?"

Summary:
The Meknik Union is launching expeditionary fleets to track down two lost Armory Colony missions, designate "Dark Void" and "Lost Margin". Both of which were aimed near the main cluster of our game map and now lost to the Union, who is worried of what will happen if they are found.
Hmm, where to put the sizable Meknik Union on that map?

The idea being that the Meknik Union is fairly distant and isn't 100% aware of greater galactic events until now. Which means its a two-way out of context problem for both sides as Angevian has a sizable fleet roaming around hunting colonies.

Perhaps I am "above" the map so to speak, considering how the galaxy is 3D? Or if thats too complex, just on one of the edges.
@Hael

Still working on NS, but I have most of it put together and an explorer profile in the works. Enough for me to start RP'ing if you approve.

Concept for Explorer: veteran admiral, burdened by committing half a planet to nuclear ash in the name of victory and glory, now seeking redemption by cleaning up the Meknik Union's messes. Which includes a lot of deep-space colony missions intended to seed armory colonies to continue the war in event of armaggedon, now out of control and nowhere to be found. Taking a explorer fleet out to hunt them down, Angevian runs into the greater galactic community in the process of his hunt.

Meanwhile, other factions start tripping over colonies of xenophobic Mekniks thinking the galaxy is out to get them, and they are frantically cranking out weapons and troops in paranoia of invasion by the Union's enemies. Interesting neighbors to have on precious habitable real estate.
