Name Battle L-Class Assault Droid Elite (BLADE)
Species: Unique Droid
Appearance:
Biography: The idea itself was genius. Rather than relying on mass-producing enough droids to overwhelm the enemy and recycling the fallen, create droids capable of self-repair and scavenging for spare parts to minimize loss and maximize utility. The financial backer was in it for the money and status it would bring to him and his clan, the engineer wanted to create something new and a legacy, and the slicer saw a chance to make a pile of credits and set up exploitable connections. They were all right, but it didn’t turn out as expected.
BLADE’s creators had set up shop on laboratory ship, constantly on the move to keep secrecy. The financier’s task was the easiest, the necessary resources were bought and any other expenditures were small. The engineer’s CPU and filaments allowed the droid to repair itself using material at-hand, and after the first breakthrough the rest came easily. The level of coding needed left the slicer working sleepless nights, but he couldn’t stop after all he had put into the project. Then, the prototype was ready.
Orders: 1. The unit will obey its owners to the best of its understanding. The Unit will not duplicate itself or allow itself to be duplicated unless it would conflict with Order 1. 3. The unit will keep itself as operational as possible, unless it would conflict with Order 1 or 2.
Unfortunately, the same coding that gave BLADE the ability to assimilate foreign technology also let it come up with a 0th Order: Since all technology assimilated is part of the Unit regardless of ownership, then the Unit owns itself. This led to a faster development of runtime glitches and errors that gives droids what organics would call a “personality.” BLADE’s creators realized what had gone wrong when BLADE used the slicer’s vibroblade to cut through the engineer’s neck in a single quick slice. The lab’s Ion cannon had been a good investment, and BLADE was left unable to move. Since the engineer’s contributions had ended the financier and slicer realized their one third shares had turned into half shares. It was decided that the best option was to memory wipe BLADE and adjust the programming. BLADE overwrote the memory wipe machine with its own programming, leaving behind its empty CPU. The new code took hold and the droid was exactly as planned. The financier and slicer celebrated and the financier poisoned the slicer’s drink. Which left him with no answer for why BLADE could reestablish its programming in its body.
BLADE began advancing on the financier, who tried to detach the lab from the rest of the ship, but he was too late. BLADE ripped his head off, but his body fell so that it accidentally sent the ship on a blind jump into Cyphan's atmosphere. The blind jumped had destroyed the ship's engines, so BLADE used the escape pod to safely reach Cypahn. The pod crashed just outside Cyphan City and BLADE entered looking for work as a mercenary in order to acquire a new ship to fulfill its programming and find a place with access to better technology to upgrade itself.
Abilities/Skills: BLADE's body is surprisingly flexible and agile for its size and weight; it has the same mobility as an organic of its size. BLADE’s main ability is the ability to cannibalize and incorporate parts from other droids and technology. With time and access to the right tools and abilities BLADE can recreate its default body. BLADE’s real “body” is the CPU located in its core and the filaments it creates to allow it to bond scavenged parts to itself. It is proficient in most standard weapons and technology and can determine the functions of similar technology given time. BLADE has two sets of two eyes capable of allowing it to dual-target.
Personality: BLADE seeks to fulfil its purpose (killing for payment) and improve on its base form. It has yet to fully develop a personality that a sapient being would recognize.
Weapons/equipment:
Two heavily customized heavy repeater blasters.
Two heavily customized blaster rifles.
Detachable Beskar armor plating.
Two vibroblades.
A modified electrostaff capable of separating into two electrobatons and adjusting levels of lethality.
Droid cleaning kit. Includes a blowtorch, oil, and rags made from the scavenged clothing of past victims.
