▔▔▔▔▔Born at Storm's End just over forty years ago, Davos Baratheon was an oddity amongst the Great Houses of Westeros in that he was an only child. The Gods had not been kind to his parents, who had suffered a string of stillbirths both before and after Davos himself. Such a thing was a source of shame to his lord father and rumor within the Stormlands and the Realm abroad.
Davos does not look back on his early childhood with particular fondness, as all he remembers seems to be the solemn humiliation of his father and the screaming matches Lord Raymont would get into with his wife. It was after another sibling was stillborn that Davos walked in on one such row. Supposedly, Lord Raymont had brought up the prospect of Davos becoming a page and eventual squire, and while Lady Jocelyn had wanted none of it, she was not, not would she ever be, the Lord of the family. It took less than a fortnight for Davos to leave Storm's End. He was scarcely eight years old.
As a boy, Davos took to King's Landing like a fish to water. While he had been devastated at having to leave his mother, as any child would be, he found himself fascinated by the grandiose nature of the capital city. Initially, he served as a page to the Small Council itself. He studied under the Grand Maester, trained under the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and bore cups for the King himself. All in all, it was here, amongst his royal cousins and their courtiers, that Davos flourished into his own.
When it came time for him to become a squire, Davos had initially assumed he'd be placed under one of his royal cousins. Instead, he was approached directly by the Master of Laws, Adrian Stokeworth. The Lord had seen great potential in Davos in his years as a page, and was himself feeling the approach of age. With no sons of his own, Adrian felt that Davos was the most suited to learn from him before his inevitable retirement. In time, Adrian would become a great mentor to Davos.
Nearly five years after he first arrived in the capital, Davos' mother died in childbed. The funeral was the first time Davos got well and truly drunk, and with his newfound courage, confronted his father. Rumor has it their yells were heard throughout the castle. From then on Davos would not visit Storm's End until his ascendance to Lord Paramount of the Stormlands.
Orys I Baratheon's ascension to the Iron Throne and subsequently short reign was a very busy time for Davos. He was knighted the evening before the funeral tourney for Joffrey I. He proposed to Ceryse Stokeworth just before he was due to stand vigil. He took on more responsibilities at court as Lord Adrian grew ever more feeble. Inevitably, Lord Adrian stepped down from his position on the Small Council, and upon glowing recommendations from all involved, Davos seamlessly replaced him as one of the King's advisers. That he was only nine and ten at the time was the subject of many a conversation throughout the realm. Add on the birth of his first child later on in the year and it seemed Davos' life was one to be envied.
