Hellfire-class battlecruiser. Mankind’s sharpest sword. Primary force concentration asset of the second stage of Project: PREDATOR and the Combat Analysis Survey. The mission of the Hellfire-class is to enter a tactical situation and resolve it successfully. No matter the threat, Hellfire-class warships are designed to deploy intelligence, tactical superiority, task force & fleet command, strategic integration and small craft support to any theater to degrade and overcome any foe. From a tactical perspective, the Hellfire-class depends on nothing.
Loosely based on a Nahydran design, and integrating several advanced technologies from three different races, the Hellfire-class battlecruisers represent a new dawn in Allied warship construction. Advanced shielding and hybrid armoring ensure the ships can take the blows designed to shatter conventional capital ships, but their experimental propulsion and power generation systems enable them to perform evasive maneuvers long-deemed impossible for this type of starship without breaking it in half. They are designed both for extensive combat operations as well as short, high-intensity ship to ship engagements.
Communications systems built to the Confederation Star Navy’s SERPENT DANCE initiative provide common operational capability even in the face of most jamming, as well as non-permissive environments such as nebulae, and are designed to integrate with other Navy assets, multiplying the effectiveness of a unit’s force awareness. SERPENT DANCE can also designate a group leader or coordinate a flat, decentralized operations system across a given theater or battlespace, intelligently distributing tasks and updates across all units in a task force or battle group.
The primary design tradeoffs lie in poor logistical capability – for all their combat prowess, Hellfire-class battlecruisers don’t have much space for consumable stores and repair supplies; to offset this, High Command rarely deploys these assets far from resupply or for long term independent operations without a support convoy nearby.
Endless conflict gave birth to the Hellfire-class. They are a departure from the Terran philosophy of giant centerpiece combatants capable of withstanding as much fire as possible, the Xargon fleet’s doctrine with multiple mission-specific assets grouped together for organizational theater operations, as well as the Nahydran tactical operations plan of multiple escalating tiers of combat-capable craft centered around heavy battle carriers. Rather, they incorporate capabilities from all three races. These ships thrive in the very heart of combat, and are all but undefeatable in combined-arms sorties.
It is no surprise that such hard-hitting vessels only draw from the best and most capable to crew them.
