Bio

My Character Sheets | Santa Somabra | Maximum Comics | Verthaven | These roleplays are from roughly 2 years ago.

Hello all! I'm an Advanced RPer. I've been RPing for quite a while now...since I was a kid. I'm expecting a Bachelors in English this coming May (don't ask how; my skill as a creative writer has taken a seemingly irreparable blow after an encounter with major depression) as well as a minor in Psychology. I am an avid animal lover, photographer, and writer. I do a restricted amount of dabbling in drawing and painting.

About two years ago, I stopped using RP guild. It was for a myriad of reasons, but the topmost ones are major depression, the passing of my parrot (pictured as my banner at the top of my bio), and a relationship issue.

I'm back now!

Roleplaying always kept me at the top of my literate game. My vocabulary took a huge blow during my depression, and I'm eager to refine it. I've spent the last two years fixing my life, and I'd love for roleplaying to be an active part of my daily routine again!

Types of literature I'm interested in (in order of interest):
-Adult Fiction
-Science Fiction
-Fantasy
-Thriller
-Manga

My general interests and hobbies:
-Reading
-Writing
-Animal Welfare and Rights
-People Welfare and Rights
-Drawing (Amateur)
-Video Games
-Photography

I've posted for Snowpaw! I have yet to see what's going on with Shadowpaw and Stonepaw, and I apologize profusely to Shurikai and Chrono Bovino for my lateness with these posts.
Snowpaw

Snowpaw stared at her mentor for a moment. She was torn between telling Tabbyfur the content of her dream, or continuing on as thought nothing had happened. Her tail swished nervously, and as her mentor licked between her ears, she very nearly blurted out all her apprehensions. Surely, her mentor was there to comfort and guide her? And, though Tabbyfur sometimes seemed unsure of herself, Snowpaw admired her and fancied herself to have one of the best mentors in the camp. Tendrils of fear twisted in her heart; would Tabbyfur shun her for revealing one her very greatest desires?

Its now or never, Snowpaw thought nervously. They were alone. It was the perfect opportunity to pour her heart out. Briefly, her paws shuffled on the sandy earth nervously, and then, without any prompting, the content of her dream spilled out from her muzzle,

"I had a dream Tabbyfur," she meowed nervously, "About my family. You know," Her blue eyes flashed up nervously to Tabbyfur's face, "My kin in Riverclan. I dreamed my siblings...they were drowning...the Clan was there...Thunderclan I mean. I jumped in to rescue the kits, and when I came back to shore, the Clan shunned me...and...and..."

Snowpaw's mewing had become progressively quieter, subdued. She stared at her paws, her fur burning with shame. What would Tabbyfur say? Would she request a new apprentice? In those moments, it seemed like a million different and negative thoughts flitted through Snowpaw's mind.
Removed for now. Maybe after college classes have gotten into the swing of it, I'll post it up again. But for now, closed.
@drewccapp I'm so incompetent I'm pretty sure I'd have trouble with the user friendly ones too :'(

@Obscene Symphony
He really is! I was surprised when I saw just how fluently he moved. They also gave his mane a very nice ripple effect...its kind of got this papery look to it that makes it look like flowing horse hair as opposed to stiff strands of straw billowing in the wind. But I had no idea he had some autonomy. I was watching a playthrough, wherein Wanderer was using his bow and arrow, and the horse was moving around, and I couldn't fathom what controls they must have implemented to allow the player to control both horse and character at the same time. But, now I know!

And good luck with the emulators. Hopefully you get through with it!
When someone uses solely length as their standard for writing and you end up having to dedicate time to deciphering their grammar and prose for the RP to continue. For reasons I'm about to expand on, it makes me so mad.

Now, obviously, not everyone's going to have amazing grammar and not everyone is going to have amazing prose. And, furthermore, prose and grammar can vary with mood.

But, what I really, really, wish was that some people would not use length as the qualifying factors for those two strengths.

I can deal with the people who try, or are actually good for that matter, as not every Casual roleplayer writes with the prose of an ant (and, conversely, not every Advanced one, with the prose of a "professional"). But I can't deal with someone boasting about how, as a roleplayer, they write lengthy, blow-your-socks-off kind of posts, the kind that trumps everyone else's. Then, you read the actual post and, sure, its like fifty paragraphs long, but, its also riddled with grammatical errors and the prose is so skewered that you don't even know where to begin.

And you find these people everywhere, though I'm thankful to say, at present, both of the Advanced roleplays I'm in have good RPers. i will say, however, that I believe it happens most frequently in the Casual section, where some people have fooled themselves into believing that the ability to repeat something over and over for ten paragraphs has made them superior to their short-posted Casual peers. These same people have also turned a blind eye to the fact that quite a few Advanced roleplayers still also play in the Casual section, and just because someone's made a short post does't mean they are less than you. They could very well be Advanced, but these people are too stuck in make-believe-I'm-superior land to realize that.

What doodoo brain came to the conclusion that a lengthy post automatically makes one a writing God? I can very well understand that maybe, to a novice, lengthier posts might seem like the mark of a skilled writer. But at the end of the day, four paragraphs of badly worded sentences does not really make for a pleasurable read and an exciting game.

People need to stop perversely equating length with quality. Grammar, prose, length...they're all varying factors that come together to make a nice post, with grammar and prose being far better qualifying factors than length.

Length matters for essay writing, and maybe, if you were in an Advanced roleplay that required it. Sure enough, your thesis paper might require you to butter up ten pages of analytical nonsense.

But this is creative writing. Take a hint from the multitudes of good authors out there; not every good book is an 1000 page shelf breaker. You should not be using length as the sole factor for what you believe is superior writing.

I just get frustrated seeing someone write something long, then brag about it because they believe that page length is what makes a decent, fun to read, post. You've got to put some care into your post. Take some time to make it a pleasure to read. Don't burn people's eyes out in the rush to write a long post with words that are so misplaced people don't know what to read.
Not gonna lie, messing with emulators sounds like a pain in the ass. But I'm not majorly tech savvy, so I wouldn't know! I would just go for the used Playstation. Colossus totally looked worth it, and for its age, its got some very pretty graphics. A few of the fights look very Legend of Zelda, and I think Twilight Princess may have actually drawn some inspiration from Colossus, but I can't be sure. As it was, a battle from Skyward Sword looked suspiciously similar to Colossus too, but it could also just be a coincidence. Either way, Colossus minimal plot also seemed super interesting. And horses. Any game where you can ride a faithful steed gets me.

On my side, there's also the fact that me and the sis wanna get a PS4...but, at present, we're both poor ass, jobless college kids, and we just don't feel right asking the 'rents for the money for it.

Ugh why does investing in your interests cost money? D:
Great posts in the IC so far everyone! I'm really liking it!
Wow, this is very ironic. Before I had checked this thread again, I had just found out about Shadow of the Colossus and was watching an awesome boss play through for it. I wanted to get it, but I just purchased KH 2.5, and, even used if its a used copy, I think I could use the money more conservatively. So unfortunately, no Shadow of the Colossus for me right now :(
