Bio

My name, as you may have noticed, is Sven. The last part of my username is a historical reference to an important person in Dutch history, William the Silent to be specific, an important leader during the Dutch revolt. If this didn't tell you already, I love history. I eat, breath and sleep history. Anything involving a historically correct setting will most likely draw my interest, whether it is during the first or perhaps the second World War, the colonial age, or even the the ancient times during the Roman Empire.

Now to sum this up to an easy and bite sized piece of information, I will most likely be down for the following scenarios or genres in terms of roleplay:

- Apocalyptic settings, whether that be Zombie or natural disasters. (Both post-apocalyptic and during the apocalypse itself.)
- Roleplays during the first or the second World War are things I enjoy immensly and that is something i'm very knowledgeable on as well.
- Ancient Rome, love it. If you have anything to do with that or possibly with things like that such as the Greek city states, I will most likely be interested.
- Videogames, roleplays based on video games such as the Metro or the Fallout series are things I can also enjoy.

It seems like Hsi-shan and Jinfu would get along pretty well minus the underhand dealing Jinfu does XD

Indeed, all though Hsi-shan uses attempts to gain Western support and technology because it would help enforce his rule and keep his province out of conflict. Jinfu seems to believe in Western ideals and also wants a Western trained army. The difference between us being that I aim to use Western Technology to further my own goals, rather then actively what's the word embracing it. If that makes sense?

But yes, we seem to be similair indeed. To bad my province wasn't closer to yours so I would have a nice land corridor for some supplies. :P

Side note: Finding population censuses are a bitch.

Still working on my character, doing the biography now. But seeing as you're not accepting it untill i've done something specific. Lennon, you're like school in July, no class.
I will start working on my character sheet tomorrow, it's quite late here actually at the moment. (I live in Europe.) So it should be up once you are sleeping or when the lot of you are waking up. (That is assuming most of you folks are American.) I'm not to good with the whole map/paint usage thing so I would appreciate it if the host could colour the area of Ningxia for me. If my claim is accepted that is.

Side note: Lennon, i've noticed that the area you currently have, including the small strip of land connected to main land China, has a population of 15.9 million people today. Yet you only have a population of 2.5 million in your character sheet. I don't know much about population growth but to me it seems as though you should be able to increase your population to 4.5 million even, or 5 million maybe. Just a suggestion of course, was just making an observation.
<Snipped quote by Sven the Silent>Kinda but it's the same as when I came to the realization that based on my location compared to others my nation became India.
Further cemented by the fact that nations towards the east to me are basically China, Korea and Japan.
This is explicitly a fantasy setting. While magic and extremities are better to be avoided, we discussed the use of various fantasy races and unique materials.
It isn't my faults that all the other nation apps posted in the characters page use only humans so far.

I saw mention of the need of an USSR type of country, I was already looking to portray Communist Russia or atleast a Communist country. So to create a Communist nation here wouldn't be a problem. It's a bit troubeling to look through everyone's individual claims and try to form an accurate image of what is taken. So an updated map with all the claims would be lovely.
<Snipped quote by Cyclone>Griffins in the age of airplanes isn't any more odd than cavalry being used in both WW1 and WW2.
We even have these cavalry on rare (stupid) occasions attempting to charge at tanks. With the expected effect.
I can see some chivalry-obsessed cavalry reader attempting to outdo Messerschmitts in a dogfight.
Imagine "flying horsemen" armed with rifles and maybe submachineguns trying to shoot down fighters that fly twice as fast as them.

I taste a vague hint at the Polish in your mention of charging tanks, I mind you that such information isn't very accuarate. Much like the infamous reputation the French have for being cowards. But I can't deny that it never happened. :) Anyway, elves and griffens but the rest of the world is normal. Then that seemsa bit out of place right?
I'm interested, I would like to claim the Ningxia region if possible. Should I be accepted then I will get a sheet out tomorrow, most likely. Or Sunday/Monday, the days I have off at the moment. I'm also expressing interest in other nation roleplays at the moment, but when it comes to nation roleplays I enjoy historically accuarate scenarios most. (Those being in the normal Human world, having normal regular Human history up to the point we're playing.) So I will definetly be participating in this one if i'm accepted.

Quick question though, how many players were you looking for exactly?
I'm a little uncertain of what races and creatures this world has exactly. I saw the mention of Dwarves and the mention of a Giant Birds for some form of air cavalary. Mixing that with World War I/Interbellum technology seems a bit odd, but doable. So if one of you could be nice enough to give me a minor heads up on what's what, I might join once I know what i'm working with.
My general practice is to treat an NRP as a normal single-character RP except people are permitted effectively infinite characters to use on their own without reapplication. As such, as I handle them they're more often than not narrative driven. I don't do dice-rolls. I don't do Excel spreadsheets. I don't do delivering orders to a GM who interprets them and their effect to whatever power fantasy he's running, statistical claims no withstanding.

This may seem like chaos. And it would be, if the people who participated lacked mutual respect and were not at ills at talking things out to devise a story that makes both parties happy, so even if someone "loses" they both win.

IMO, if you want to GM I would still advocate that you start with participating in a few yourself and not barging into the administrative function of running one totally blind. Because if you don't understand the House of Cards as well as you should, or have a terrible stat system then it will no doubt break down and you will be frustrated. So even if there's nothing in the Second World War time-frame that's new, you should at least check around some.

Speaking of myself and my own projects, I and the others would be more than willing to assist you in getting up to speed for something like Precipice of War, which actually sorta fits that bill; despite being set in the 1980's. Apart from helicopters much of the military functions - and likely even nationalist philosophies - are in a sort of quasi-40's attitude despite being 40 years late. We're actually just getting to our promised Second Great War, despite having ran for more than five years now across three forums. So stop in, we can fill you out, and maybe you can partake in some madness in Africa.

Otherwise for new, there's Do The Eagles Circle The Mountains which serves as a medieval-fantasy NRP. This comes without the stress of mangling a real nation's history so much to fit your own fetish you risk offending non-nationals for your ignorance. It also absconds away with the more complex ideologies of nationalism and post-19th century race/culture politics (well, sorta) and complex modern-economics, replacing them largely with a vague understanding on how feudalism works.

Thank you for the information, i'll have a look around for something I find interesting. I wouldn't mind looking at what you have going on. I have plenty of roleplaying experience, so you don't have to worry about that.
I have no experience in running a Nation Roleplay of my own, and I only fancy starting one at the moment because I can't seem to find a Nation Roleplay that is within the 1900 - 1945 timeframe, atleast not a recent one. I would love to participate in such a roleplay, hence I figured I could start my own. Creativity is not an issue for me, most of the time, so i've got that down. I'm just not sure on how one would go about running it.
