Felix Karrde - The Dorm
As the sound of whay he was sure would be the world's most annoying siren rang out, Felix rolled out of his bed, landing on a bag filled with his clothes. His bloodshot eyes were spread wide as he felt his sanity begin to leak out of his ear. Or maybe that was just sweat dripping. Either way, he was filled with dread and not in any way ready for learnin'.
"Ugh, shoot me now," he begged as the siren's wail came to a stop.
Unzipping the bag he'd fallen on top of, he tugged his signature combination of jacket, jeans and t-shirt. His dark blue jeans had a two-inch wide hole in the right knee with a split bottom on his left leg, down by his ankles. His T-shirt was black with white lint scattered all across it, and his hooded jacket was an unadulterated ebony. He dressed himself sloppily by unballing his quick-change outfit and tugging all of them over his body with an ungraceful vigor. At least no one could say it looked like his mother dressed him.
With a high level of angst, he ran into the dorm's bathroom, twisted the sink's knobs, and scratched his hair and pinched it, working the grease out of his mop before he shut the water back off and ran out the door. Starving, he didn't take the time to check on Ethan. If he could just get to the cafeteria, he'd be fine. It would all be okay. Yesterday hadn't gone particularly well, but today was a new day and he was going to make the most of it. When he entered the cafeteria, though it was not yet bustling, it was already more crowded than he'd have liked. He jumped into thw line and grabbed a stack of pancakes, saturated with syrup, before he stepped into the middle of the cafeteria and looked for his table.
Just his luck.
Instead of being empty like it was yesterday, there was a small group sitting in it. However, on the plus side, he did see the one guy who had left when he joined the group conversation, next to a girl he didn't recognize. Deciding it was for the best, Felix tried again. Plus, he carved a hole in the table, if he let another group claim it, that would be an enormous waste of work.
Approaching the table and plopping down on one of the seats, Felix gave a small friendly grin. He heard the guy say he was off to get waffles for the girl. Either way, he was there now. Not quite sure of the best way to break into the conversation, he started with the best common ground he could think of.
"Hey, I'm Felix. Ya' know if the pancakes are any good? I just want an opinion before I take my first bite. I've never had a pancake that wasn't good, and it would suck if the first breakfast here jinxed it for the rest of my life."
