Yo! I'm a fairly simply guy who's in here due to my love of writing. I've never got into the swing of things on these forums due to other stuff, hence the massive difference from the time I joined to the number of posts I've made. I'm a big geek when it comes to all things anime, fiction and games. I can roleplay just about anything as long as it doesn't involve me using an actual person's picture. I usually lean on the anime style of RP's, but recently I've been branching out for the sake of gaining perspective. I don't inherently dislike any character tropes, I believe if the execution is right and the direction is clear then something of value can come out of that. I might be online in theory, but that might just be me leaving the tab open. If you wanna talk just go ahead! I don't bite... much.
It doesn't have to be a guantlet, really. I wanted it to be like an iron man style laser healing effect more than anything without saying he can magically cast it from his finger tips because that wouldn't really fit the setting. Perhaps a drone that he can input the tether and do the same effect I have in mind without the idea of a guantlet.
- Does his drone lose its drone functions while it's transformed? Not in being unable to fly (since that's obviously impossible) but, is it still able to use its sensors/communicate with people with in that secondary form?
No, at that point it will lose all of the functionalities, except the comms. I think it be best that sensors would be off, unless it's a dragon radar from dbz kind of thing, where the general consensus is that instead of a very detailed graph of the area is shown, it's more like general dots indicating where a target is located. But I can do with either.
- What's the average range of his Drive?
Perhaps around 50 feet. Maybe 30 to make a bit fair, I suppose. We can tinker with the idea to your liking, I don't have much of a preferance as long as its feasible.
- Also, what can interrupt the connection between he as his allies? Harsh movement, an obstacle between them, losing concentration, etc.?
Normally I would say all of the above, but that would also be rather unfortunate. Loss of concentration, which means if someone interrupts him with a heavy enough hit, winds him down, or he gets tired. It already drains him physically to sustain such so he won't be so battle oriented as I would've like him to be, but that's also the fun of it. As for obstacles... Hmm, I guess he has to at least understand where they are located to be able to tether. Like I won't tether through a building, but if he's behind a car or a vehicle and I tether prior then it would sustain it. Also, if they leave the range of the tether all effects are gone.
Edit: I meant to say he and his teammate are in either side of a vehicle. Sorry if that breeds any confusion lol
- Since he drains his own physical health to heal others, how long can he sustain the link before he's too weak/endangers himself? Furthermore, how much it costs him to use the shot variation of his power?
Okay, lemme see. I have this thought of him being more of a marathon runner, than a sprinter. Which means his stamina is perhaps a bit better than your average person. Sustainability is completely dependent on how the person he links with is treating himself during the fight. Sure, he can sustain it for roughly I'd say and hour if they sustain little to no damage during the fight. Considering a fight last as long as an hour. Heavy damages would reduce it to perhaps, 45 minutes and if both links are heavily damaged than 20 minutes to keep them running.
The shot variant is for when they are beyond the general distance of the tether. Or when he can't tether anymore. They are much less critical to him as he has more time to develop them, than just pour them out of himself constantly. However, it's a potion sort of effect. They get healed a certain amount and that's it. How proficient is it? Hmm, perhaps make a stab wound not fatal, but not really recover it to its completion, while as tether would do so over time.
So when you're displayed with a myriad of things that looks like a circus performance, although lazily executed, you're bound to remain at awe throughout the entirety of it. Therion was confused, if not more so completely disillusioned. There was always some oddities when it came to players in a game. There were always quirks and personalities, but this was... overwhelming to say the least. Which was even more concerning, because this place was a bit at the higher levels, so he wouldn't understand why they wouldn't just use their abilities. Maybe, just maybe... They are noobs? It didn't matter, a spear flung lazily towards the wolf and past him. It was dangerous and he evaded with nary his neck intact. The girt of his teeth kept the yelp from escaping his lips and revealing him away from his invisibility. Welp, guess they will ignore the Admiral, or more so who would even see him through this... chaotic medley of things happening. Well, time to get a bit creative he supposed, he has been stuck on this stupid avatar for a bit so he should be able to do a couple of things to that thing. Before anything happened though, the dancer looking one started to stab the wolf, quiet consistently, like a lot.
Like a lot, a lot. Hacking away at it, furiously in the attempts to save the kid who still seems to be screaming out of his life. Maybe he shouldn't even wear his invisibility, such amount of noise is shield enough for him. Well, it was time. The dancer finally relented and drifted apart from the creature, creating a distance between the two and holding tightly to her dagger in hand, her bleeding seeped across the bite marks in her arm, and now it was time for him to shine. Therion kicked the earth beneath his heal and closed the gap between the two, reappearing from his shroud of invisibility with pyre lighting at the cusp of his hand and slamming into the wolf's chest, before he pushed him away at the cause of a small blast of fire.
"Don't very much know about him, but if you can't beat 'im, blow it up. Uhh, hi. Therion." He introduced himself, pointing at himself as a visual aid, big smile on his face. "Uhm, random question and everything, but... How did you guys even get in this predicament?"
• Appearance: The most notable feature on Hiro is perhaps a faded scar on his cheek. The auburn eyes and platinum locks are the signifying trait of his bloodline. Stands at roughly 177 cm (5'8 ft) in height and weighing across 138 pounds. Relatively lanky, always dressed at his prime. He takes his appearance from his father, usually always carries some sort of watch on his right arm, they are not incredibly expensive if anything they just are there for the appeal of having one.
• Bio: Kindness is taught on the home, benevolence is achieved through experience. Not many hearts are capable of placing benevolence at the helm, logic intercepts at times most crucial. This was a hard learned fact for Hiro. You see, there are gift which are handed at birth, others attained through hard work and labor, some even stolen. But to some extent, Hiro was all of these combined... Do you believe that people, no matter what the circumstances, return to being themselves in the long run? That no amount of change is permanent? There is not true answer to such, perhaps a belief shift a person's view, but not their personality. A crude soul is crude to its finest hour, a caring soul is caring no matter where they are placed. Hiro is a test subject for such, as the history is claimed through a new essence, a similar body, similar life, different world.
Hiro holds a connotation to many, it's a definition that comes with a lot of baggage. Some holding care and love, others resentment and jealousy. But the burden falls on the shoulders of a boy who cannot remember past a certain age. Names, dates, events slip through the crack of his fingers. Though his talents remain at its finest, like a fine blade with its edges dulled, it resembles a period where greatness once overtook on the shoulder of one who didn't claim it. Hiro was part of a terrible accident, which left him hospitalized for a time, throughout he suffered a terrible affliction, amnesia. Through such, Hiro developed to become someone different from who he was, someone foreign to the people around him. He was a top student, with good grades, yet a rather repulsive personality. Haughty, grandiose, holier than thou.
Yet if there was something that depicted him, is through such there was achievement, there was results. As a linker, he was rather prominent on his field. However, such was perhaps stolen and lost, by another man. One that now rest on the same shoulders, one that speaks when spoken to. A young man that questions his existence and carries a burden or maybe a gift. His hands are the one of Hiro, the Achiever and now, they are the hands of Hero, the Amnesiac.
• Armament: He utilizes a drone that if tethered with, aids in the healing abilities of Hiro. Gungnir is a drone that syncs into the user for maximum effectiveness, Hiro can cast from long range battle with such.
• Psychic Drive:
Tethering: this is his most prominent ability. He releases a coil of light that connects him to two other entities. As long as this connection isn't severed, he can provide a constant stream of power towards his allies, healing them continuously over time in the expense of his own stamina. Such can be also connected into a single point and shot through the Gungnir as a concentrated bolt to heal. The speed as to how it heals the targets depends on both the ability of the user, and the wound. He cannot regenerate lost limbs or even, completely restore a person to their 100%. However, this aids immensely as a means of sustainability.
• Extra:
He's terrible at talking to the opposite sex.
He has a soft spot for animals, particularly cats.
He doesn't really like to eats fast foods, but does it anyway out of bad habit.
He has a distant relationship with his family and former friends. This is due to his amnesia and a sense of regret.
Those are the last words he remembered before waking up in that room. The smell was heavy, and his body was limp. There wasn't any sort of pain, only a numbness that enveloped his arms and legs. To some extent even his torso. A lot of question came to mind, but none surface out of his throat. The beeping noise of the room is the only thing that kept him company in this silence. What happened? Certainly the answers would come to him soon, crawling back like a drunk leaving a bar, stumbling onto their feet. But there a certain static which embedded all memories in a blank space, there were many questions of course, but there was one which permeated and even enveloped the first in its natural essence. "Who am I?" Eye finally adjusting and a white room was all that was present, a lilac teasingly dressing the top of a cabinet, almost as if to bring subtlety to an obviously heavy atmosphere. The window was open, and the birds still chirped their songs through daylight. Serene, perhaps it all was... But the question continued to bubble up inside him, lifting his hand finally to witness the cord that at its edge was the syringe that fed him his nourishment. "What's... my name?"
He was hospitalized. This was certain to him, but the events were blurry, hazily slipping away with every minute detail. And this platinum haired child found himself forgetting, and more over, attempting to cling to such. Yet, such serenity displayed itself on his mien, perhaps he was unable to react, due to the sedatives, or perhaps something else afflicted him. He wondered for moments in silence about this, about everything in confusion. Time felt slow, he understood this feeling but it all felt as if nostalgia hit him infinitely. There was no source to place anything, and so this entity only understood that he was lost. That the landscape of his mind was like a dessert, and there seemed to be no oasis nearby. A door finally opened, and a young woman entered to free the curtains which shielded him from the magnifying amount of light. For a moment, his eyes could not sustain the light, but like before they adjusted to see a woman leap and leave in a hurry.
"W-wait!" His words hoarse and his voice desperate. Not long happened before a male came through, and started to make him go through a couple of test. Questions were asked, yet none were replied. When the man asked him if he remembered anything, the boy merely look at his feet. Before long, a huge hull of his history was presented before him. Who his parents were, where he lived, his name and his age. His achievements in school and his friends. Some came back relatively quickly, but others remained a fog. Like... he was a different person, he felt and saw things differently and all the people could tell him were traits of a man they knew, not who the man was. No one could answer that other than this boy. He looked at pictures and read up on logs, but... it was as if he was looking through someone else's looking glass. But, he was Hiro. That was his name, but ultimately.
The one that defines this face, and this history. Is not the Hiro who inhabits it now.
..."Not sure to be honest. I think It'll be best to pick something more suited to me, but at the same time I think an easier class would be nice. at least until I get the basics down."
"Just pick, man. either way. Any class you pick will need some type of adjusting. Hurry up, or I'll start without ya."
"Fine, fine... Just give me 30 minutes."
"30 minutes... Didn't you already have a concept thought out? Why not that?"
"Hmm, you know what... you're right!"
~*~
The memories of an outside world felt distant at this current juncture. Like a kite, his vision soared across a vast landscape in the tall distance, swaying with the subtle gusts of winds beneath his wings. Nightfall would soon engulf the land, monsters were prone to become stronger at this hour, but such mattered little to this elf. He slowly closed his eyes, and his mind returned to him, to his body. The nearest city would be eastward from where he stood. "Alright, come back Admiral." A small humming bird swooped towards his location, began to swiftly shift around Therion's position before hiding within the confines of his cloak. A silent gesture of gratitude, and Therion continued his path forward. Hood up, hands hid among the dark of his cloak like a thief would. It wasn't long before he realized that this would be his life now, perhaps in some part of him he wanted it to be. It wasn't long ago, actually. The moment was minutes before sundown when he and his friend were hunting for boars somewhere in the early levels. Therion had just acquired his 37th level, and overall was just helping the lad get some skins for some armor piece he wanted to craft. It was mindless fun and overall a good time. It was good to be untroubled by the thought of always hiding and swerving across the battlefield just to get critical hits happening.
"You've got enough?" those were the last words Therion spoke before the boy before him nodded and thanked him for helping. A quick look to the main menu, managing and emptying his bags and dismantling items it dawned upon the youth that his log off button was gone. Maybe a bug, was the first thought but then a message popped up asking how to log off from his friend. The circumstances began to feel serious before time slipped through his finger, first an hour, then two, before long he realized that whatever system error occurred was one that of serious nature. It's no problem, perhaps a maintenance call would happen and before long they will have the issue fixed. Removing his headset and going to bed like usual, Therion... of more so Gendou, relied his weariness on the comfort of slumber. Tomorrow would be another day, another adventure.
It wasn't until he opened his eyes that he realized the situation he has been placed upon, the world in where he was in. Fiction had made a full circle. He hands were different, his body too. The usual sluggishness which birthed itself on a morning's stride has shown its absence today. His face, finger trailed the skin and ears which landed into a point, realizing that... He was not Gendou anymore, but Therion. A gasp, a panic, surely this was a dream. Lucid one at that, a pinch on the cheek and punch to the gut. All his strength behind it could awaken him from his slumber, but instead replace the sense of confusion with writhing pain. Gasping whatever air he could to regain composure... Gendou had to accept reality... And reality finally began to taste sweet.
And so, upon this trek unto nowhere, a sound and rustle started to catch his attention. "Huh?" Before a large yell of two individuals began to veil what was once a silent forest into a frenzy. They were running away, surely they were players... in this area there shouldn't be any sort of- The screams grew louder and louder, and the two seemed to have become much more prone to dying than before. Jesus Christ...
Therion quickly took a minute, inhaled a deep breath and allowed himself to vanish within the seams, disusing self and presence from the surroundings. Scent, self and everything alike. He needed to help in anyway shape or form possible before these two... died? Either way, he pulled out his short boy, and positioned himself nearby, as this ravenous creature continued its pace... One, two, THREE!!
A shot was fired towards the beast, a hit into the leg, halting its pace slightly, relenting trying to figure out where it came from. Now the arrow which was once invisible began to show form, as the blood began to over its surface demonstrating the piercing attack.
"Damn it, I was aiming for the eyes. I'll keep it distracted long enough for me to get close to those two. But what to do?" a thought came to mind, Admiral flew off his cloak and towards the two who were being followed, attempting to get their attention, maybe he can make them move towards him to formulate some kind of plan.
Name (Former): Shuichi Gendou Name (Character): Therion Blackhart Character Level: 40 Character Class: Arcane Trickster (Mage thief) Age: 23
Appearance: Character model is fairly standard in height, roughly around 177 cm (5'8) tall with not much to show in terms of muscular girth. Most prominent feature are the crimson eyes, and sharp ears that land in a point at their edge marking the elven lineage. Therion clothing consists prominently of hoods and shawls that have been enchanted for the purposes of boosting stealth and crit bonuses... And over all fashion. Of course, there isn't an element of his character that isn't fit or suited for anything else. He started a thief and, quite literally, has ended in one. So all aspects must resemble his class. Perhaps that is what it means to him to be in this world. Features are rather soft, perhaps due to being an elf, which makes him seem younger than what his age would suggest.
Backstory: Therion, once known as Gendou, was about as laid back as you can expect from someone who could afford it. Most of his free time he spent it playing video games with friends and catching up on shows and comics he forgotten about. He graduated collage and has been in a rut ever since, unable to find employment nearby and opting to neglect ever doing so. Passion's in life were limited to simply "living everyday in peace." Not being bothered by the customary troubles of each day, paying bills, eating good food, going to the gym twice of thrice a week and laying back and escaping reality to play games. So to some extent, if you were to seriously think about a word that could depict his reality in its entirety... You could go right by saying that Gendou was complacent.
His passion's were all centered on the fictional, on building worlds and stories that would ultimately land him a few moments of comfort. Fish out of water, you might say. He lived life so absently that maybe this too was a form of escapism. Always doing the minimum to survive and extend himself so that he could derive purpose on the fictional. That's not to say he was completely useless at everything. He merely didn't expect much from life, success was he made it, and he didn't have many awards to prove nor did he care much for it. So, perhaps something sparked withing him when he finally decided to buy Emerald Odyssey. He was reluctant, at first. MMO's weren't his forte and he didn't have many friends that could really join him to play. But the massiveness of the worlds and trailers were something of a calling card for someone who enjoys planes and lore.
But, you know. Still undecided, when picking up the game someone began to chat him up, talk him out and soon a friendship formed. This person too, wanted to play this game and had been anticipating it for awhile. They exchanged numbers and not before long he bought Emerald Odyssey through the weaving of fate allowing him a friend to join him up. What Gendou didn't expect, was to be trapped and locked with a world he had no knowledge of. Foreign and magical, yet crawling with myriads of danger. But... a grin broke, and a sense of excitement brew upon him. Truly, he was home.
Personality: Perhaps confidence brews from the trickle of his brow and the curvature of the lip. Maybe he simply plays a caricature of what he think tricksters are, but truly he is neither. Therion is a thief and therefore he not quite the most moral of all people. However, he certainly leans for the better good rather than just doing things for the sake of evil. Therion is a playful sort, and a bit of a joker. Not a good one to say the least, but he tries. He has a soft spot for the innocent, and a big heart for animals which is why he has opted countless of times to choose the tamer class at the start but decided against it. Still, this doesn't stop him from occasionally attempting to steal or even bribe his away of someone's merchandiser. After extending his theif class to the next tree, he has found it simpler to do what he desires with the class he has chosen.
However you may see it, though. Therion is a human being. A living person who was met with what some might see it as an unfortunate circumstance. He is in a home, away from home. So to him, the world around him might at first seemed like a playground, but now it's reality. So he reacts to situations like any normal person would, Therion is brave in the face of danger when his foot shivers from the sight of death. He cries when times of sadness and closeness strike upon him, perhaps he has created a bit of an attachment to everything around him. He gets angry and shouts at misconduct of extreme proportions, and similarly begets happiness from the small things in life. Or perhaps, in this virtual life. His pet is a small bird that he can channel his sights on, he lost his previous one, which is why he keeps a feather dangling from his pouch to remember him by.
Arcane Trickster
Therion has adapted his original class into a variant sub-class of both mage and thief. Arcane tricksters in particular are proficient with daggers, cross-bows and staffs, but Therion opts to move throughout the shadows, utilizing the school of illusions to his advantage. This class if not extremely potent when it comes to developing high level spells like it a would a pure mage, however it combines both aspect to make a devastating class to be dealt with.
Abilities:
Far-sight: Therion has the ability to see far distances due to his thief proficiency. He has adapted his character well enough to fight out of sight to proc crit bonuses.
Dark-vision: He can see fairly well during night time. It is not by any means clear, he can see farther than your normal human and on top what would be unseen by he humans in the dark, he sees more so like a moving shadow.
True Invisibility: His most prominent skill yet. He can not only turn invisible, but also disguise his entire presence around him. Leaving no trace of his existence behind. However, it is not like blink or a shift between planes. This ability can be countered by a spell or removed with a debuff.
Elemental Bomber: It comes with the class. He can create spheres of flames which can be lunged towards the target and it explodes on impact. It can AoE any creature withing 5 foot of the blast zone.
Sensory Exchange: He can transfer his conscious to his pet bird. He will see and hear all that the bird does, however his body is in a state of concentration which means all active spells will drop, and he will be exposed to attacks.
Skills:
Sleight of hand: He has fast hands. He can steal and hide things with daring proficiency.
Keen of Mind: He has to always be vigilant as he is a glass cannon. He is extraordinarily good at tactical positioning and movement.
Run-away: This is a perk for his speed. He is agile and quick on his feet, dexterous like a thief and sharp like a mage.
Other: The feather of his past bird is actually an equipment It's pretty bad, but he keeps it close. It gives him 5% more luck.
