Before I post, how reasonable would it be for Richard's use of Incendio to set the forest on fire? :3 It seems like that's the natural consequence, which is what I started going for, but I'm not sure if it would ruin what you guys have planned.
Thanks! :d I'm looking forward to getting started. As I've said, it's been a while since I joined a roleplay due to lack of time. But I'm on break, so I should have plenty of it for the meantime. :D
Sorry about the age thing. My bad. Hopefully everything's fixed.

Hopefully, this is acceptable. It's been a while since I last joined a roleplay, so forgive me if I'm a bit rusty. Let me know if anything needs changing. :D
Is it ok if I reserve a star child?
I would perhaps be interested. :D
Posted! :D I'll preemptively defend Dani's spell casting given the extraordinary circumstances they're in as well as the unique method by which Dani casts spells.

1. The adrenaline of being caught in a fight where one could die would make it easier to cast any spell due to heightened emotions and what not.
2. Dani's wand is made of pine, which actually has the characteristic of making non-verbal magic easier to perform.
3. Dani's understanding of incantations as being focusing agents allows her to cast some spells without 'knowing' them, much like the emotional acts of magic performed by children before they're trained. Most other students at her age wouldn't be able to do the same due to the false conclusion that magic is performed by the incantation.
4. The spell is nothing special. It just creates a shield that can take a few hits. As hinted at in my post, it's of a rather poor quality, meaning that two or three more hits would shatter the whole thing, especially if they hit the thin spots, as Dani wasn't able to make it uniform.
5. This is not something that Dani will be able to do out of the blue in the future. In other words, this does not mean that Dani will just be able to cast this spell, or others (i.e. she'll still struggle with Lumos), whenever now. The only reason that she's able to do it now is because a) she has enough time to think about what she wants to do, and b) the adrenaline rush she's experiencing.

If it's still too much, then I'll figure something else out. I just thought that it would be a good way to highlight how Dani works differently than most of the other students.

Also, sorry if I came across as pushy or something with the above. I just didn't want you guys thinking that I was trying to make my character out to be the most powerful or whatever. That's not the intention, and I fully plan on exploiting Dani's many weaknesses in the future. :D
Shaking her hand to restore the blood flow after Roze finally let go, Dani followed the instructions of the teachers to stick together, picking up her pace so that she didn't get too far from either of her friends. She hoped that Roze had just been imagining figures in the woods, but something didn't seem right. As Roze got the attention of Richard to voice her concerns again, all hell broke loose as a hoarse voice uttered a curse, the clearing lighting up and the trees casting shadows that made it seem like they were surrounded by tall, skeletal figures.

With reflexes that had to have been honed with years of practice, Richard deflected the curse with the tip of his wand, sending it off into the woods. In virtually the same motion, he pushed Roze away from him towards a nearby tree. Though she had hesitated at first, Dani drew her wand and scurried to kneel next to Roze and make sure that she was okay. While it was unlikely that she would be able to do much against the fully trained wizards that were attacking them, she figured that the adrenaline coursing through her veins would provide the willpower she needed to fuel her magic.

Figuring it would be a good idea to try and do something to protect her and Roze, Dani took her wand and gestured it vaguely, imagining a force field of some sort covering them and willing it into existence. Oddly enough, her wand seemed to understand what she wanted, pulling her magic through and creating a crystal-like bubble around them as a curse streaked into the tree they were near, sending a shower of bark shards that bounced harmlessly off the shield.

Despite the fact that they were in the middle of what was essentially a war zone and that the shield was quite misshapen and uneven, Dani felt elated that she had managed to cast a spell at all. Unfortunately, the feeling didn't last long, as a streak of orange light crashed into the shield, ricocheting up into the sky and reminding Dani that the events they were engaged in were pretty serious and definitely not the time to congratulate herself on successfully casting her first spell. Hopefully the shield would last long enough for the teachers to fight off the attackers or for reinforcements to arrive from the castle (someone definitely should have seen the orange streak flying up into the sky) or something.
Sorry for my absence, guys. College has been pretty busy lately. I'll try to get a post up soon, but I can't make any promises.
