The Kobolds’ plight has always been that the world was much bigger than them So much so, that the only reason that they were able to survive at all… is that always met adversity on their own terms. Those who don’t, or stray too far from home, or do anything to suggest a hint of bravery… often meet the sweet fangs of death. A lesson taught in the egg nursery, a lesson taught by reality.

There deeper in the unlit halls of that church was a small abandoned barrow. The entrance was a tunnel small enough to give most creature’s hell for attempting to enter. A story told true by a puddle of blood and smears of similar material starting - then leaving the tunnels hole. But it opened up to a small den large enough to hold two Kobolds.

One had died through the night to the grievous wounds it had suffered from the troglodytes in the area. Its possessions placed nearby, and is in the process of being buried by his trembling companion, Lilt. There had been a larger group of kobolds they were with, but after the attack their fates are unknown. Most had been killed, and she had attempted to drag who she could to safety.

Once the burial was done, the Kobold began to dress herself in the departed’s possessions. First his armor, a simple and primitive regalia of leather and metal bearing the insignia of the dragon she and her comrade served on the back. It had separate segments that protected her thighs, wrapped around her foot and protected the shins, and for her chest. The only other clothing she wore was a simple belt and loin cloth with similar emblems.

Finally, his sword. A crudely made, mass produced weapon that was easily a twin to her own. Minus the blood that caked the side of her blade. The new addition to her arsenal was hitched to her side directly under her own.

Lilt strongly desired to stay where it was safe. But sooner or later, the kobold would meet the same fate if she did not leave. She gave one final mournful look to her companion, and pushed her into the halls. She turned about and sealed the entrance with a large piece of rubble. “This journey was a mistake. This journey was a mistake. This was a mistake,” She hissed to herself through a shaky breath in draconic. Her head darted left and right to check her immediate surroundings, and made her way towards a nearby door.

Once her claw touched that door, she was mostly sure that her luck couldn’t get much worse. Why she had already hit rock bottom! Her comrades were probably all eaten! Why the only thing that could happen now, is that when she returns… a hero she will be! Or… death. But one was more likely than the other, and hopefully the former.

The door slowly was pushed open. A deep groaning squeal echoed through the halls from the rusted hinges. Her new found resolve absconded faster than a cockroach in light. Just ahead were a group of adventurers. Armed to the teeth. And very much awake. Her tail immediately went limp and fell to the ground with a thump. Her jaw fell slack. And her eyes dilated into thin quivering slits. She tried to back up slowly and pull the door close. But her body was stuck in place.

@Tangletail

Right, forgot that you had to change your stats. Scratch the int thing. That aside everything looks good. Welcome to the Ruins of Norn. You won't last for long.

Well... you know what they say about cowards. Typically the ones who live to fight another day. I'll have a post up soon. Seeing that I happened to come in at a perfect opportunity to either metaphorically or quite literally drop in.

EDIT: Oh yeah... this is what a cheap dusack looks like. Perfect amount of crudeness for kobold weapons.

I'll have the link in the CS later.
@Tangletail

Yeah they stripped a lot out of the characters in 5e, though they added stuff too. I was certainly surprised when the bardic inspiration because limited dice bonus instead of aoe small buffs, but I suppose that's because 5e wants to reduce the amount of number crunch. In any case I do agree, the countercharm as an action thing can feel pretty lack luster unless your big hitter is scared/charmed, or most of your party is. Fear effects are actually rather common but the charm not so much.

As for the saving throw question, it really depends on what saving throw your targeting and what monster your fighting. Generally speaking if it's not something legendary like a adult dragon or a mindflayer, they're guarantee to have one great save, one good save, and the rest are shit. As in, all they get is their stat bonus or penalty. The idea of a general save DC is also to allow low level spells to still have some use in higher level games, so something like charm person or burning hands will always be useful from level 1 to level 15. Plus since 5e does away with static bonus/debuffs, more likely than not your enemy may have disadvantage and be forced to roll the lower of 2 d20's for saves. That makes it much easier for them to fail saves even if they have a decent bonus.

In any case don't forget to add a +1 to your int save.

Also your HP is way higher than it should be for a bard. It's always max die at first level, but only the average every level after. So 8+5+5=18. You'd had your con bonus for each level too if you had a bonus.

Also just a formatting thing, but you can mark a skill as Expertise by selecting the circle next to it and typing "e". This will automatically double the proficiency for it as well as mark the skill as expertised.

WHy do I add a +1 to intelligence save when the stat is 11 +0

Oh, and the macro for the skills was removed so I can include the jack of all trades bonus

Someone caught it
@Lucius Cypher

I made a copy of the character sheet, and did it at 4 in the morning.
The Constitution and Strength scores are both left overs that I forgot to fix.
I'm not entirely sure what happened to the stats hitting 29. As I apparently correctly put the numbers into the skills.

Also as for the Countercharm thing, that's fine with me. Though some might think it's a bit too good letting a bard have a bonus action advantage against Frighten/Charmed effects, frankly those sorts of things don't normally come up a lot that it'll matter... Though lets just say I'm being generous for this one. Also don't forget to include your Blade Flourish ability as a Sword Bard. You get that at level 3 as well.

Eh, I don't know about that. They stripped out a LOT from their kit in this edition. Which I can kinda see what they were trying to do. But they kinda cut the bard's identity in half and just left it at the jack of all trades, master of none.

Oh... And the likely hood of countercharm coming into question is low as the paladin gets an aura that gives a devine bonus to saves

Also, looking at the saving throw. I am curious as this is my second 5e game Does that number ever reach a decent enough level that a monster has to roll better than a six? Or is that good? I legitimately do not know.

A kobold, eh? Have fun trying to convince Angus not to chop your head off.

Yeah, i saw that. Which is why I went more thematic with the kobolds loyalty to a blue dragon.

Illusion spells, and storms.

Disguise self... Such an underestimated spell.

And push come to shove.... Suggestion, tell him to shove off while she bails.

Edit: Now that I think about it... A few good reasons.

If the dragon is an enemy of her dragon. Shed gladly help you kill it.

Shes a bard. Her stories about a jacked barbarian lobbing the head of a dragon off with only four feet of steel will immortalize him.

And her crafty tongue is likely to get a bunch of free drinks, as well as play wingman.... Wingwoman.... Wing lizard. You know what I mean.

@Lucius Cypher Here's Lilt's character sheet.

Having a damn hard time finding a picture on the internet for the kobold. Most of them don't have a very realistic art style. And some of the ones that gets close... well best not to post them.

Hey, welcome to the RP, we’re still accepting. I’ve played around with bards in 5e and in older editions so I have a tenuous grasp at how they function and how their abilities are way different.

Personally I lean towards Valor Bard simply because it was the first type of bard I played, but Lore Bards can be quite useful in their own right. Unlocking Magical Secrets at level 6 and taking ranger/Paladin spells bring one of the more obvious uses. I’ve never used Sword bards myself so not sure how they play.

We can work out some alterations as needed, but you’d best tell me what you want first before you set yourself into a build that relies on it.

Mmm... My only alterations would be...

Making Countercharm into a bonus action. As it's a little absurd that it consumes the Bard's action just to give someone advantage, when it's significantly better to just give them an Inspiration die, and you probably already have Font of Inspiration around that time so you don't mind burning it.

The last one would be a Race from Volo's. I'm almost done with the sheet, so I'll IM it to you and we can discuss it.
Bardic inspiration is always a welcome thing in dire situations.
I'm sure you'll do fine.

I'm contemplating between Sword, Valor, and Lore.

In my experience... Sword is a better battle bard, but it's selfish. But has good mobility and can still support very well.

Valor Bard gets access to Shields and martial weapons. Gives AC to others... but can't help themselves.

And Lore.... I'm guessing this one is pretty obvious.
Eh... I decided to settle on a Bard. I apologize if I suck as the bard, as I'm still figuring out 5e's version when previous versions had more options. So... Utility, a bit of healing, and clutch. But I'll likely ask for some small changes in the class.
