Name: Yuka Mogami
Appearance:
Age: Appears 25
Gender: Female
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 68kg
Hair Colour: Blonde
Eye Colour: Green
Birthday: July 27th
Clan/Family: The Mogami family is a noble house within the Soul Society, but not one of the great ones. Their only real trait of note is that the family has always upheld a strong moral code. Perhaps important enough to be heard of by highly informed individuals, but otherwise few would know of them.
Race: Soul
Rank: Captain, 5th Division
Spiritual Energy Colour: Bright yellow
Personality: Yuka is a fairly relaxed person; not much gets to her and she can tolerate all kinds of stuff from others. She likes to present herself as being approachable and open to discussion, especially in her role as captain. She isn’t partial to formality, and while she won’t bother stopping anyone from calling her by her rank, she encourages members of her squad to just call her by her name instead. Some think of her as being lax with her squad, but she likes to think of it as catching bees with honey rather than vinegar; she does not take a relaxed approach out of laziness but out of a belief it will create a better division in the long run.
Aside from her generally relaxed persona, Yuka has a very strong moral compass. There are a number of things she has come to believe are right, and these beliefs have been moulded by her experiences. First and foremost, she cannot tolerate the needlessly cruel. She feels some among the Shinigami have developed a callous attitude towards their work, and that this is uncalled for. She believes all problems should be approached with an open mind and a little tolerance; a Shinigami that can’t perform should be nurtured, not mocked. A new threat should be met with dialogue first, not immediate hostility. Yuka’s moral convictions could potentially lead her to conflict with the Seireitei’s authorities, but she has yet to have a notable conflict with them…yet.
History: As a noble, Yuka was groomed to become a Shinigami ever since they discovered potential in her. Unlike many others, Yuka’s family had always held a strong tradition of moral character that was sometimes controversial in the Seireitei. Yuka had much pride in this tradition, however, and she always maintained the Mogami code no matter where she went. Unfortunately for her, she had been slated to join the 5th Division due to the Mogami’s subservient relationship to one of the other noble houses, of which one happened to be the captain of the 5th Division. This wouldn’t have been a problem had it not been for this captain’s character…
The captain in question was a very cruel man. He had no patience for Shinigami that could not perform well, and the 5th Division had a reputation for chewing up and spitting out underperforming Shinigami within the first few days of their graduation. The captain encouraged a culture of hazing, believing that if any Shinigami had potential they would rise above the squad’s harassment and become an effective member. Aside from resenting being subjected to this treatment herself, Yuka’s moral compass led her to strongly object to such methods. She believed the new members could and should be nurtured to reach their potential, rather than being belittled and mocked for any lack of skill. Strangely enough, Yuka not only survived the 5th Division’s hazing but also rose to the rank of lieutenant. The captain did not care that she thoroughly disagreed with his methods; he only cared that Yuka could fight well, and thus deserved the position.
Yuka used her new position to try and make a change in the nature of the 5th Division. She spent much of her time intervening on the behalf of new members of the division, protecting them from the rougher elements and trying to train them on her own. Over time, her efforts led to two camps forming in the 5th Division; those centred around the captain that indulged in his cruel methods and those that had become loyal to Yuka due to her efforts on their behalf. The captain continued to ignore the fact that his personal ideology was being overruled. Perhaps as an example of his sole redeeming feature, he was tolerant of such things as long as they still produced results, and Yuka’s followers did indeed produce results.
One day, the division was involved in a rather large scale fight against a group of Hollows. The fighting was fierce, and many members of the division lost their lives. Yuka was isolated from the others in the fighting, and she was almost certain she would perish there. But just in the nick of time, the other members of her division came to her aid, and the squad was able to claim some measure of victory. As it turned out, their much maligned captain died on that battlefield. At the time, Yuka had assumed he simply got isolated and killed, but she later learned many of her comrades had made an active decision to rush to her aid rather than the captain’s. After all this, and after Yuka developed her Bankai, it became clear who the next captain of the 5th Division would be.
It has not been all too long since Yuka became captain, but in that time the face of the 5th Division has changed almost completely. No longer associated with bullying and hazing, the 5th Division has a reputation for being one of the most welcoming and relaxed divisions of the Gotei 13. Few members remain from the former captain’s inner circle, and those that do have fallen from grace. Yuka has done much to try and build a division she could be proud of, and she feels there’s even more to do…

Zanpakuto~
Zanpakuto name: Raikiri
Type: Elemental
Zanpakuto Shikai Release command: Shock ‘em!
Spirit Appearance:
Raikiri takes the appearance of a Raiju, a mythical creature associated with thunder and lightning. Inner world: A vast mountain range with snow-capped mountains as far as the eye can see. Yuka always finds herself standing atop one of these peaks, looking up at Raikiri who sits atop a bank of clouds. She finds it really pretentious.
Sealed appearance: Just a plain old Tanto.
Shikai appearance:
A gladius.Bankai appearance:
Her Bankai becomes a heck of a lot more ornate looking sword with a lightning motif. Shikai special ability: Raikiri’s fundamental ability is that of controlling electricity, allowing Yuka to manipulate it for the purposes of attack.
Shikai skills:
1. Taser: Involves flowing an electrical current through the Zanpakuto, making every strike with the sword charged with electric energy.
2. Lightning Rod: Calls down a bolt of lightning into the Zanpakuto, which can then be directed at a target of choice.
3. Live Wire: By running her Zanpakuto along the ground, Yuka can create an electrically charged line of energy that will shock anyone that crosses it. Yuka can only create one at any time and it will only discharge once.
4. Flash Bang: Yuka’s Zanpakuto can discharge a burst of bright light that can temporarily inhibit the senses of those around. This one requires at least a minute to recharge (I’m not sure what an acceptable cooldown is for this group)
Bankai skills:
1. Lightning Squall: This attack unleashes a mess of lightning bolts that strike out in a random pattern from the tip of the Zanpakuto, making them hard to predict. This one requires at least half a minute to recharge (again, no idea).
2. Chain Lightning: This appears to be a normal lightning attack of the same kind performed at Shikai level, but this one is capable of threading through multiple opponents. The downside is every opponent after the first receives a lesser shock, with the 4th target getting only a mild zap. This one requires half a minute to recharge.
3. (Ultimate Skill) Thundering Roar: Yuka’s ultimate technique is a charged one, as might be expected. After a minute’s charge, Yuka calls down an enormous pillar of lightning. While this alone might be enough to hurt an opponent severely, the thunderclap produced from such an enormous amount of lightning is deafening and debilitating. Suffice to say even if someone wasn’t hit by it, they would still have to endure some serious pain.
Skills & Masteries:
Zanjutsu: Expert. Yuka is no slouch with her Zanpakuto, though she cannot compare to the more masterful captains of the Seireitei.
Kido: Mastered. Kido has always been Yuka’s favoured method of combat, as she prefers to use long range skills and keep a distance from her opponent.
Hakuda: Proficient. Hakuda has received the least amount of attention from Yuka. If she were to be disarmed and unable to use Kido, she would lose to any skilled practitioner of Hakuda.
Hoho: Mastered. Yuka’s preferred strategy is to keep a significant distance from her opponent, and so she heavily developed her skill in Hoho to give her the speed necessary to maintain said distance.
