Perfect doesn't exist for people like us, Bartholomew. Passable. That's what I want. Just simply passable. If I could have a passable existence, I think I'd be very grateful. "

In Depth Appearance |
Calvin is a lithe man who has a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. Standing at 5'11" and weighing about 180 pounds, he could be an imposing figure save for his loose posture which often brings him lower. Blessed with a strong metabolism, Calvin is still at the point where he can eat most anything without any major consequences to his body, at least in the short-term. He’s got some muscles, though it’s nothing to marvel at, with no tattoos or piercings on his body. Comfortable, but with a degree of fashion, Calvin wears whites, blacks and greys with the occasional burst of colour on a good day. He does not take many risks in how he looks.

Personality |
As this years have gone by, and things have calmed down, Calvin has become a content and affable person. While New York was at first daunting and scary, he now has adapted, and feels comfortable calling it home. With a decent job and some solid friends, he’s rather happy with himself and his position. Although not wildly sensitive, he can be prickly when questioned about home or university. Calvin takes his work very seriously, but beyond that, finds little reason to worry about other aspects of his life. It has been the doom of many budding and long relationships, as he has difficulties committing or investing in anything after the thousands of dollars blown away at school. Alan is quick to make new friends however, with a relaxed and self-deprecating demeanor that is approachable and easy to contend with.
Calvin also tends to get swept up in excitement. When things are working out, he’s known to bounce around, swearing and generally causing a ruckus as he gets pumped. When he nails a passage on the trumpet, his downstairs neighbors will often hear loud stomps and the occasional expletive as he dances around. He’s smart, though he doesn’t ever talk about it, and has a tendency to brush off any compliments concerning school, music, or anything else. Although not a sad person, Calvin isn’t especially happy either. He smiles a lot, but baked in his dopey grin is a drop of sarcasm, a sense that it doesn’t really suit him in his current state. Still, he is far happier than he ever was while in university, and for that he thankfully, if slightly wistful for what could have been. For now, he is resolved on gaining mastery over himself before trying to figure anything else out.

History |
Calvin led a privileged life in Atlanta. His mother worked as a Lawyer for Coca-Cola, who paid her well enough to allow the rest of the family to live comfortably. He performed admirably in school, and fell in love with the trumpet, making many friends along the way. When he graduated, his school elected him valedictorian as a sort of joke, as Calvin had made it quite clear he wanted nothing to do with it.
Calvin had always dreamed of going to Columbia, and his mother was more than happy to pay for her first-born son to fly and follow his dreams. However, although Calvin had loved playing music when expectations were low and he was the best of his class, performing under the scrutiny of world-class instructors and adjudicators was a withering experience. Music lost its luster, and after a nervous breakdown in Second Year, Calvin dropped out and committed full time to his job at the Shake Shack, which for a while was his only form of social interaction. He continued to practice Trumpet, and became more disciplined than he was at school, and although he enjoys practicing and playing for himself, he has developed a deep aversion to performing in front of others.
Calvin’s family was crushed when he finally told them of his departure from school. Although supportive, Calvin couldn’t bear to look them in the eye, so he slowly disengaged with those he was close to. He has yet to return or visit home, and does not talk with anyone there, as most of his friends had heard that “Calvin wasn’t made to be a musician, or anything really”. The only person he still talks to is his younger sister, Ava, who is in her last year of High School and who he dotes on. The rest of his family is mostly content to leave him be, focusing on their second son who has just got started at Georgia State.
Alan has become comfortable in New York, where most people don’t know him. When someone recognizes him (usually while at work), Calvin is quick to comment that he’s very happy and satisfied with the decisions he’s made. Any further pressing of the issue often ends in Calvin vehemently arguing that he never went to university, a pill far easier to swallow than the blame he places on himself. With little else in life, he focused all his energy into the shake shack, where he is now the assistant manager, something in which he takes immense pride.
