Neat. Are these Sky Rails still travel..able? If they were like monorails, you could probably fix up a few enough to be able to travel around a lot easier. I think that would be pretty neat and it would allow for interesting encounters like skyscraper ambushes and bombardment from a sky rail.

I never thought of it that way actually. I was thinking more along the lines of pre-hail metropolitan usage, but post-hail utility (outside existing non-hail-stricken cities) never occurred to me. Your character in particular would be quite involved with them, wouldn't he?

Speaking of the rails, I left out a few details because I passed out. They actually use a bunch Lummid projections on a thin rail to keep rail-faring vehicles suspended. The hard light's position is entirely dependent on the position and programming of its projector, so vehicles don't actually put much of a strain on the system at all.

This definitely works because I am not a physicist and I do what I want!

EDIT: I never actually answered your question. I will say yes they will work again if properly maintained. I'm sure Voyagers and caravaners would be interested in getting more of them working. However, they will not be everywhere. Country roads and less-traveled highways would not need them.

ANOTHER EDIT: I noticed stuff keeps getting cut off mid-sentence in my OOC edits. For instance, I had a whole paragraph on sky rails, and now there is a sentence and a half. The Guild is being funky lately, so weird shit keeps happening. If something looks cut-out, please inform me.
Added some UNO history, as well as some small tech and society details before passing out earlier this morning.
Beowulf and Kyle are accepted, and their CSs will go in a CS thread that will be made sometime before now and the heat death of the universe.

My priorities at the moment are:

  • Expand Pre-hail Obit lore for the sake of clarity. UNO (Kyle's inquiry into culture) and SIP will get fleshed out more this morning and I will likely add more specific tech.

  • Make a MAP! Almost 100% happening tomorrow. This should help you guys a LOT.

  • Make a CS thread. Also almost 100% tomorrow.

I am off work Tuesday and Thursday this week, so things will happen those days.

Obviously we should all just start using bottle caps as the main and overarching currency.

Indeed.

Hail-o-Cola!

Hey kids, have you ever wanted to turn into a bloodthirsty psycho and eat your parents? Then Hail-o-Cola is for you! Just drink 3-10 liters a day and you'll be an indiscriminate cannibal in just THREE WEEKS!

I'm a little confused on something. You said that the various have divided and have claimed their own territories. However you mentioned "bluebacks" as the defacto currency. is this true for all the factions? Does the Vanguard have its own currency, or just use the blue backs anyway? Are the factions completely separate, like their own nation states, or aligned cities under the control of a single faction, or are they more like political parties, having representatives in each area?

Things are not nearly that structured. A very sheltered society was crippled less than 20 years ago, so chaos lingers heavily still.

Immediately after the Hail, the DERB was the only thing resembling a structured government, and they had a lot of supplies to start with. For a short while they "owned" all the territory and thus a lot more supplies. However, many groups grew out of military safe zones and became their own factions. For the sake of story cohesion and my sanity, the story mostly focuses on the LISTED factions in the STARTING area. The ration tickets became something akin to "bottle caps" in the Fallout franchise because they became so widespread. Currently, they are becoming more of a fiat currency than one that has physical worth: They are used by most people because most people accept them.

The way territory works--at least to start with--is that we're all in DERB territory technically. This is a post-apocalyptic RP, so we're not really going to have pretty cardboard-cutout borders for every group. Avant Garde is an anti-DERB movement growing within Derb territories. The Unburdened are growing into something more akin to a cult.

I hope that was a satisfactory explanation. If not, shoot me a PM and we'll discuss it further. As a human being, I tend to radically overthink some things but overlook very simple stuff. It happens.
I'm actually going to totally reform the "Pre-Hail World" section. If I break it down into what I have for "Obit", then add an "UNO" and "SIP" subsection it'll be really repetitive. I'll likely chop off most of "Obit" and put the map there when it becomes a thing, then rewrite the chopped-off stuff into "UNO" and "SIP" with a lot more detail. My hope was that more expansive details could be revealed through RP, but that was probably too naive of me.

MORE ANSWERED QUESTIONS: Vehicles are a thing. However, in metropolitan areas anything that was not on a "Sky Rail" (moar details to hash out!) was considered a lower class vehicle. In addition, transportation was 90% automated, so any road-faring cars would have to be significantly tweaked for manual use.

I guess that's just one question....

Oh, wait, it is? I thought that the Pillars were caused on Earth by Obit, not the other way around. Huh, that's a bit of a confusion, but whatever. Thanks for clarifying that for me, I missed it. Well, with all that fixed, I'll have my character ready up to be sent to you by tonight probably.

Um... Hmm...

Okay, I see where you;re confused. The "This word and another collided violently" thing has NOTHING to do with Earth. For all intents and purposes Earth does not exist. Everything happens on Obit, and not a single person has the slightest idea where the fuck the Hail came from. The "Worlds colliding" is... lets say a figure of speech.

KYLE: Yes, try your best to avoid being a phallic object. That is generally my role in a RP.

ALSO: Imma throw in a bit more info into the world and tech sections based on several questions I've been asked (Including culture stuff).

ALSO ALSO: Input from all parties is encouraged! Ask me questions or suggest stuff I may have completely forgotten.

ALSO^3: Magic isn't a thing in Obit. Near-perfect mechanical synthetic limbs/organs are (regrown organic ones are as well, but the tech is no longer attainable). Flora and fauna can basically be completely made up, but keep in mind that Obit is MOSTLY Earthlike. I WILL MAKE A MAP SOONISH: Kyle and Sage know I am adept at making shitty-but-effective maps.

FINALLY: Please read the rules carefully.
