Current I love those times when you've got a few really good, high-potential stories in the making and all you wanna do is write. It's like all my stars have aligned.

I also feel like the idea that there is now a hypothesised generational divide between people who used to 'RP' on IM and people who write good content on forums is pathetic. Why start this crap?

You could also have long-form stories over text, however complaining about long-form, detailed posts (as this began as), seems both ludicrous and worthy of IM.

Sometime it's less about writing some shitty slice-of-life RP in IM, and more about creating a coherent and valued story among like-minded people. Something you'd need an actual platform for.

I always forget how quiet it is here in the British mornings. Timezones are not our friend.

Name
Maxim
Age
20
Affiliation
The Bombers
Appearance
Maxim is of moderately-tall height and well-built with a good definition, standing around 5'11" and 180lbs. He wears a black leather A1 flight jacket on top of a plain white cotton undershirt with dark blue slim (not skinny) jeans and black leather trench boots. His mask is reminiscent of this, but a lot more realistic and with bloodshot, wild eyes. Each step Maxim takes is a deliberate step, and each turn of his head is careful to deliver the maximum impact. Maxim is a deliberate man.

Personality
Maxim is, by all accounts, a gentleman. He keeps his apartment clean, he polishes his shoes, he winds his watch every morning as he witnesses the sun breaching the horizon. He'll pay for the old lady at the grocery stores shopping, and he tips generously. He does none of this for recognition of praise, but because he believes that the world needs a higher class of man. He also kills Razors mercilessly because they are not even men. They are filthy rats who thieve, rape, kill people who shouldn't be involved in this. They are a lower class of human, and The Bombers are, frankly, the best way to ensure a calm can be brought over San Marzano, to ensure the little people can live peacefully with a helpful eye guarding them.
Strengths

  • Maxim is one of The Bombers' top enforcers. He takes pride in managing to perform the job with minimal effort and time, and is continually used due to his skills and work ethic.
  • He is also an excellent short-term negotiator. Maxim has a skill where he can convince you that what he wants is what you really want too, whether it is during interrogation or what is everyone getting for the next round.
  • Maxim is incredibly street, and in this world that includes people too, smart.

Weaknesses

  • Maxim follows The Bombers' and his own personal codes very strictly - almost too strictly, most people would say. This causes conflicts of interest often among other members.
  • He is not the ideal candidate for an all-out gang shoot-out. Maxim is best used effectively in one-on-one's or ambushes, where the situation at hand is very much less flexible.
  • A glass of Macallan 25 neat.

Likes

  • Loves music that is generally cut from a far different cloth from anything the traditional Bomber would listen to, anything classical or melancholic/downbeat is up Maxim's street.
  • His ageing pet dachshund, Mandingo, is his favourite thing. He was given to Maxim a few years back when an old colleague was injured on the job, and passed care of Mandingo to Maxim before passing away shortly after.
  • Romance movies, as some see him as a little too sentimental for his own good sometimes.

Dislikes

  • When someone breaks the code of human decency - beating women and children, thieving from old people, anything that a stereotypical dickbag would do, Maxim deplores it.
  • Anything that could be considered 'lower-class'. This ranges from rap music, to mindless fart jokes, or even wearing tracksuit bottoms outside in public.
  • Cats.

I do agree. While I like role playing, I do live in Australia myself and not everyone here is American. So if people start speed posting, pushing out other potential replies like my own, I won't be enthused about participating.

Keep in mind as well that any replies with more than one other in a room should probably have an opportunity for multiple people to respond. There is nothing more lame than 2 characters having a conversation with the third just standing there like a gawking douche.

So please, respect your peers, cause their actions are just as important as your own. :)

I'd like to second this, all the way from GMT. I'm not telling you what to do, of course not, but if there's 10 IC posts over the course of a night I'll drop this quicker than a booty on a dancefloor, no matter how much I love the story. It's just shit when something you are genuinely interested in begins punching out posts at the speed of light.

@NuttsnBolts
There's a big difference between speed posting the IC and the OOC though. If someone doesn't get a chance to respond to something in the OOC, it's generally not a disaster because they missed out on dropping a killer line or making a good joke and they can always just quote the post in question. Obviously it's different in the IC but I don't think anyone in the thread doesn't know that or intends to rush through scenes and leave those in different hemispheres behind.

Being someone who has GM'd and participated in their fare share of stories, I will disagree. Those that can't post often or can only post when everyone else is sleeping get left behind both in the development of writers' relationships and in the IC. If you aren't able to post that killer one-line when everyone is watching, they wake up, scroll through their Subscriptions and pass by your post. There's no interaction there. So while I can stomach a hefty OOC count, it doesn't mean there won't be any issues arising from it. This is just my observations over the course of 7~ years, and the people involved always make the difference, but I still believe it's too common of an occurrence for it to be dismissed.

EDIT: To any Bombers out there, after I make my introductory IC post I'm thinking about doing a collab with someone who is preferably in a similar role in the gang as Maxim. An enforcer or hitman, something like that. PM me or tag me in here to let me know.

Holy fuck guys, go easy on this thing, I have work and when I come back to three pages of OOC I get scared.

Came back to find that everybody chose Razor. Damn it, had a good character idea for them as well. Eh, whatever. I guess my first character will be a Bomber then.

I know, right?? My character is a Bomber and it looks like it's a one man gang so far hahahah.

My character was accepted over PM, can I just drop it into the character tab? Was hoping for a few more days of OOC development time, this means I have to delay that report even more because this is far more important.

I think they have Cocaine Cowboys 1 & 2 on there.

Binge.
@The Scotsman Drive was great but not my introduction to Synthwave.

I discovered Shadowrun on the SNES which immediately plunged me into the world of Cyberpunk and I've been a big fan ever since. From there I found Miami Vice and a documentary called Cocaine Cowboys where I realized the similarities between Cyberpunk & Synthwave. Now I'm just a huge fan of both movements.

I think that's on Netflix, might have to give it a bash.

Synthwave is amazing man! I just bought Perturbator's new album and it's insane! ^^

I'm a big fan too, and like almost every other new fan in the past 4 or so years, I blame Drive. On the other hand though, The Guest had a phenomenal soundtrack which also helped the genre to grow on me.

Only in that I smell like whiskey and have like two friends.

And you're still in love with that girl who dumped you like 3 years ago? You poor sod, you.
<Snipped quote by The Scotsman>

Prepare to be thoroughly disappointed by my character's theme.

Anyway, the OP is pretty much what the OOC will look like, just working on the setting now. Check out those MAD LITERARY THEMEZ, YO.
Learn them. Live them. Love them.

DeadBeatWalking's character theme. Feel the drama!
