Sounds like a good idea to me! Another idea I had is that we could have a "character sheet" of sorts for the ships. Stuff like size, history, type of FTL, crew, how many crew are still alive, equipment on board and what survived, stuff like that. Alternatively, we could just describe it in the RP.
I agree, it's likely that a good portion of the crews would be dead. But there would still be enough people to work together. Especially since the UED ship would have SCV's, which would help a lot. For how they got there, I was imagining that each ship had some sort of FTL-related mishap (for example, I was thinking of having the UED ship enter an emergency FTL jump with no coordinates to escape from some Dominion ships that were chasing them). The crews and the locals could have all sorts of interactions, too. I'd imagine Twilight would love to check out all the fancy new technology.
I have played StarCraft 2. I chose an older era marine because 1. I like the story of the first StarCraft more than StarCraft 2, and 2. because I like the original design of the Marine armor. Also because the UED are cool. The time period he's from is the time between StarCraft 1 and 2.
I do like the idea of separate ships from separate universes crashing, and everyone being forced to cobble together some sort of abomination of a ship from the wrecks. Will there be NPC's onboard the ships that the players will control? I'm thinking of it being set up so that each player has a group of NPC's they order around, basically making each player their own little faction.
Name: Sergeant Michael Carver Species: Human Age: 28
Source: StarCraft
Appearance Description: His suit is around eight feet tall in height. It is white, with a UED insignia located on the chest piece. It's covered in scratches and other marks, and generally looks well-worn.
Personality: His experiences in war have given him a grim outlook on life. He has a strong sense of loyalty, and is unlikely to betray his friends, or his ideals. He would rather die with dignity, than give up and betray what he stands for. As such, he is very patriotic towards the UED, and supports their ideals.
Backstory: Born in the slums of the Confederate capitol world of Tarsonis, Michael had a rough childhood. His family was poor, and he would often steal to make ends meet. Eventually, he was caught by the police. Due to the need for more soldiers, he was "resocialized" and sent to join the Confederate Marine Corps. Deployed to guard Tarsonis, he was there when it fell to the Zerg, an experience that has haunted him since. He was rescued by Jim Raynor and his men, who informed him that Arcturus Mengsk, leader of the Sons of Korhal rebel group, was responsible for drawing the Zerg to the planet.
He joined a group called the Confederate Resistance Forces, a group dedicated to fighting Mengsk and his new government, the Terran Dominion. When the United Earth Directorate entered the sector, intent on retaking the dissident colonies, his group joined them in order to help the UED in their war against the Dominion. Michael served with distinction in many battles, earning the rank of Sergeant. While the UED came close to conquering the sector, they were eventually defeated. In the years since, Michael and other UED remnants have been in hiding, waiting for another expeditionary force to arrive from Earth.
Powers Section-
Skills: Trained Soldier: Significant knowledge of warfare and fighting, as well as using various weapons. Troop Leader: Experience with leading others in a combat situation. Vehicle Operator: Has been trained to operate a number of Terran vehicles, and can learn how to operate similar vehicles more easily. Novice Engineer: Tinkering with vehicles has given him some experience with engineering.
Traits: Mental Conditioning: He has been mentally trained to not break under pressure easily. In Shape: He's in good physical shape, and is used to doing physical work for long periods of time. Stimpack Addiction: He used to use stimpacks regularly, in order to improve his combat ability. While he has sworn off stimpacks, he still suffers from the side-affects of stimpack abuse. The most frequent symptom is insomnia.
Powers: No special powers.
Equipment: -UED Marine suit, which contains a variety of useful features. -C-14 gauss rifle. While the rifle is gauss-assisted, it still uses gunpowder to fire the projectiles. It has a second barrel which can be used to launch grenades. -Two fragmentation rifle grenades. -A gauss pistol. It holds 14 rounds. -Ammo for the rifle and pistol. -A large knife.
Well, it seems almost everyone has some sort of idea for a character, which is good. Personally, I'm thinking of going with a Marine from StarCraft (basically a guy in power armor with a big gauss rifle).
