Personality ProfileDavid is often considered the "kid" of the group, and not just because he is one of their youngest members. Having grown up during the war, his memories of the "before-times" are hazy, and he has a child-like curiosity towards things and stories from before the aliens arrived. After the loss of his biological family, the squad has been the closest thing he has had to a family, and he tries his best to keep everyone's spirits up. Although his years on the road have numbed him to death and violence, he has still managed to maintain some of the optimism he had when he was a child.
When he's not in battle, he's usually talking to someone, reading, or trying to fix something. Being a bit of a kleptomaniac, he tends to take interesting things he finds during missions with him. Trying to fix the broken things he finds gives him something to do, and sometimes he finds something useful from a dead ADVENT soldier or alien. Because of this, whenever something goes missing, David is usually the first suspect.
He has a deep and personal hatred of ADVENT and the aliens, not only for killing his family and friends, but for robbing him of a normal life. The way he sees it, every bad thing that has happened to him has been their fault, directly or indirectly. His stance on civilians that cooperate with ADVENT is mixed, however. While he hates those that openly collaborate with the aliens, he believes that most of the people are either afraid or ignorant, not inherently evil.
Background ProfileBorn in a small town in rural Pennsylvania, David's early childhood was mostly peaceful. David and his two brothers (one younger, one older), would often go on hunting trips with their father, a renown hunter and marksman. From a young age, he was taught how to shoot, and how to survive in the wilderness, two skills that would come in handy in the future. He was a happy young boy, and would have lived a normal life, had the invasion never happened.
When the aliens invaded, David was only 11 years old. At the time, he didn't fully understand what was happening. He sat on the couch, confused, as his mother and father watched the old TV with grim expressions on their face. As the invasion progressed, and the attacks became more and more common, their family decided to pack their bags and leave, along with several others from their town.
The time immediately after the alien invasion was a chaotic one, as the aliens moved to crush any remaining resistance, and establish their dominion over the Earth. In these times, people often turned on each other, trying to find some way to survive. As their group passed into New York, they were attacked by a band of looters, trying to take what they had for themselves. At age 11, David killed a man for the first time.
By the end of 2015, the aliens had succeeded in pacifying any remaining military resistance, and ADVENT was created to rule over humanity. One night, over a burning campfire, the small group of survivors made a pledge- that they would never submit to the alien invaders, and that they would fight to restore humanity's independence. In this new, terrifying world, David was forced to grow up fast. His father gave him further lessons in fighting, and by the time he was 13, he was actively participating in raids against ADVENT. Their group, armed with hunting rifles and AR-15's, was often outgunned by the aliens, but made up for it by using guerilla tactics. David became especially skilled in stealth, being able to sneak up behind alien patrols unnoticed. He became the group's scout, often going behind enemy lines to stake out potential targets, or to loot abandoned buildings for supplies. Their group recruited more people, and they became enough of a threat that the aliens began to take notice.
Five years after the invasion, the group was taking shelter in one of their safehouses, an abandoned motel. They had recently come in contact with a group that called itself "Falcon", who was interested in meeting them. While they were preparing to go to bed for the night, they were interrupted as a barrage of magnetic slugs tore through the walls of the motel. An ADVENT strike force had located them, and they had brought two APC's with heavy turrets. The militia fought to the best of their ability, but they couldn't withstand the direct assault. As David watched his friends and family get cut down one by one, he prepared to make a final stand. But death never came, as Falcon had arrived, taking the aliens by surprise and driving them out. As they walked past the corpses of civilian resistance fighters, they found 16 year old David locked in a barricaded motel room, clutching an AR-15. When he learned that he was the only survivor, he practically begged them to let him join them. While they might have been skeptical at first, David has spent the past five years proving his worth, fighting alongside XCOM.
