"Rabies 2.0"

"Rabies 2.0" is almost ready.

Think of it as part role play, part (simplified) tabletop game; part "I, Legend", part "The Walking Dead".

In 2020, a rabies like disease rampages across the world. 80% of those infected die; 10% are Immunes; and 10% are Crazies, maniacal cannibals who hunt down the Uninfected and Immune, devouring them like lions on a gazelle.

Our story takes place in Albany, Oregon, initially centered around a lone but ill man in a building full of food; and a doctor and her Immunes who are about to starve but have the meds to keep their "neighbor" across the river alive.

Can they find a way to help one another without getting eaten?

The story and area of involvement will expand over time.

Replies can sometimes be as short as a mere tabletop game action. Long, descriptive posts are not required...

However, spelling, grammar, and punctuation checks are. We all will make mistakes, but we will all LOOK for them BEFORE posting, too. Unacceptable posts will be ignored if not corrected.

BEFORE RABIES 2.0:

• Born 1976, Portland, Oregon.
• Gymnast: 1980-1994.
• University, Med School, Residency.
• "Good Sam" General Practitioner: 2018-2020.

AFTER RABIES 2.O

• She is an Immune.
• Outbreak response at Good Sam.
• Soon was senior (and only) doctor left.
• When the Mayhem began, she ordered Good Sam locked down.
• Those inside were treated accordingly:
  
  • Immunes were given safe haven or released.
  • The Dead were removed and burned.
  • The Crazies were secured and euthanized.
• Good Sam is poorly stocked in food. They will run out in days.
• Despite the medical emergency, it is still well stocked with medical supplies and prescription medicines.

CENTRAL LOCATION:

• North Albany, north bank of the Willamette River.
• "Good Sam" medical offices/Urgent Care building.

  • This list is for all PCS at Good Sam. (There was no serious attempt by Authorities to secure the building. The accumulated weapons were individually owned and are now used by Good Sam's Security Force, which is a handful of men and women
  • .30-06 rifle, open sights. (25 rounds)
  • 7mm rifle, open sights. (18 rounds)
  • 12 gauge. (22 rounds)
  • 3 9mm Glocks. (75 rounds)
• Food:
  
  • This is the entire food supply for the "community" of 15.
  • 10 days of mostly canned/packaged/vending machine items.
• Other resources:
  
  • Good Sam received a truck load of medical and other goods in preparation for the Plague. Most were not used, so there is still a lot of fluids, first aid items, and more.
  • These resources will be key to the interactions between the PCs.

POSSIBLE INTERACTIONS FOR THIS CHARACTER:

• He is a patient of "Doctor Lizzie", with whom he is in contact.
• His interaction with the PCs at Good Sam will initially be driven by his excessive food supply (which they need); and his lack of life preserving medications (which they have).
• He will be looking to trade food for meds, something in which the other PCs can be involved if they wish.
• The immediate danger will be that the streets are full of Crazies.

• Real estate investor/builder: 2016-2020

• His immunity status is unknown. (Odds are 80% he would die, 10% he would be an Immune, 10% he would be a Crazie.)
• Owner/occupant, The Wheelhouse.
• Secure behind multiple layers of security.
• Well stocked with food and other resources.
• However, he will run out of live saving medications in February 2021.

CENTRAL LOCATION:

• Albany, Oregon.
• "Old Town" neighborhood, south bank of the Willamette River.
• "The Wheelhouse", a commercial-retail-office building.

  • .30-06 with 9x night-capable scope and sound suppressor. (1000 rounds)
  • 3 9mm Glocks. (500 rounds)
  • Combat knife.

  • 15 days of fresh food.
  • 30 days of semi-perishables.
  • 5000 servings, canned/packaged goods.
• Other basic essentials:
  
  • The Wheelhouse's businesses were stocked for the Grand Opening which was postponed, then cancelled, due to the Plague, then the Mayhem.
  • Those businesses include a small restaurant, a coffee shop, a handful of retail businesses, a handful of service businesses, and a dozen professional offices.
  • A full list is forthcoming.
  • For the meantime, just imagine the types of resources auch businesses would have.
  • These resources will be key to the interactions between the PCs.

What has happened during our story:

• November 2020:
  
  
  
  • Martin Winters, anticipating a plague, locks himself within his new commercial building, The Wheelhouse. He is alone, for now. With the restaurant, coffee shop, and other retail businesses well stocked, he is sitting pretty ... EXCEPT that he doesn't have enough of his presciptions to last more than a few weeks.
  • Elizabeth "Lizzie" Jones, now the last living doctor at a medical offices building we will simply call "Good Sam", orders the building secured. Once the Infected either die and are discarded, prove to be Immunes, or become Crazies (which the rabid, maniacal cannibals are called) and killed, Lizzie is accompanied by 12 Immunes. They will run out of food in just days. Ironically, Lizzie has the prescriptions Martin needs.

Prior to Our Role Play's Beginning:

• July 2020: A Doctor with a US Army Biological Weapons program intentionally infects himself with a pair of viruses which begin to mutate into a single, deadly virus.
• August: Once contagious, Patient Zero sets out on a cross country trip. He infects thousands, who then infect thousands more.
• September: By the time the disease is identified, the number of infected is rising exponentially.
• December: Millions are already dying each day.
• Some infected people are immune.
• Others become homicidal cannibals, attacking and eating other people like mad dogs.
• Because of this, the Press dubs the disease "Rabies 2.0", or just "R2".
