Bad Fanfiction Theatre. Who knew bad writing could be raised to an art form.

Don't you hate when you have an idea while you're driving down the road and by the time you get home to write it down it's gone?

Ah, finals. The portal into summer. How we have waited for thee. Now, if only I could find some work.
@SouffleGirl123 I remember shamelessly using the practice rooms to sleep in when rehearsal went to late. That was until we learned our teacher had a couch in his office. And a coffee machine. Those were the days.
@SouffleGirl123 Reminds me of my high school. I never went to lunch. Basically lived in the jazz room. I think at some point they banned students from using the rooms during lunches. We did anyway.

I want to play this on violin...

A great American classic, that one. I loves me some Gershwin.

After hearing him play with Michael Brecker, I've fallen in love with Mark O'Conner's violin playing. You should totally check him out.

@Life in Stasis Been there before. I feel your pain. I hope everything works out.
I'll be here, too. Watching, always watching! Judging, always judging!
@Xandrya Stuff like that gives me really strange dreams. I can't handle it. And I end up really groggy all day long and more than a little irritable.
October 18th. I'll be 22, and I still have no idea how to adult.

Don't worry too much about that. I'm 26 and I STILL don't know how to adult. Adulting sucks.

@Mirrodin Happy birthday! Don't party too hard.

How can I put it...

Okay:

THIS is a traditional Nordic music excerpt I can find pretty easily. It sounds natural, because it IS natural. It's traditional. It's got real instruments. Love it.

But when I type in "Celtic music" into Google, or try to find Irish music, or w/e... I get synthetic stuff that's made from what was ORIGINALLY normal stuff. Like: someone took a sound program that has the sounds they want, then just put it together and decided that makes this Celtic music. Which, okay, that piece isn't horrible. But then we start to get to, say... THIS GUY. I want to punch this guy and his brother. Holy moly, they muck up my searches for REAL Celtic music so much.

It sucks doubly hard because I'm running a roleplay based around Irish-inspired clans.

I'm not sure who Derek's target audience is. I mean, it looks like he has a lot of those songs released in sheet music form as well. But looking at his videos, there's nothing but midi/sampled pieces. I'd say he's just a young composer, but it looks like he's been doing that for a while. Everything just sounds really samey. Like, really samey. Nothing harmonically distinct about any of it. It's really hard to listen to, and it's not just the shitty midi.

All this talk of celtic music and celtic inspired music reminds me of a great Michael Brecker piece, Itsbynne Reel. Man, Brecker was just a beast.

Oh, that brings back memories. I was really into LP when I was younger. I never really got into music until I got into music. I can really appreciate artists who write their own music and play their own instruments. None of that Milli Vanilli crap. To many popular artists today are little more than window dressing for more talented musicians who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make them sound good.

I guess I could say that there were some instrumentalists that I listened to when I was younger who my opinions have changed about. Like Miles Davis. I was all aboard his hype train when I first started getting into jazz. But man, sometimes he could just be too experimental. Whenever he really had a thing, it seemed like he'd immediately abandon it without ever developing it. And I just hated Ornette Coleman. Now, genius. Mostly.
