@Winter Kitten What do you think of Rain speaking Afrikaans? Thought it might be fun to incorporate some of the languages we're all saying that they speak ;)
Copen looked toward the new arrival, blond eyebrows arched as she walked inside. Ah, it was a girl! His good-natured expression did not fade as she introduced herself, friendliness radiating off her like waves. He gave her a wink as she came closer. When she took the seat next to him, he straightened slightly, noticing just how small she seemed next to his lanky frame. In fact, he looked to be the tallest person here. It sort of made sense - after all, normal soldiers were usually around 6 foot or slightly below, since muscle was difficult to pack on such a long-limbed body. He knew that all too well, although he'd gotten over it by now.
Her accent was interesting, if anything. His English was fluent, but his Danish accent was still heavy on his words - most Americans so far had guessed that he was German. Being a second language speaker, he had had a small amount of trouble distinguishing just what type of accent Angel had. But if the surname was any hint... "Hi, I'm Copen Thorsen," he said with a grin, turning in his seat and holding his hand out to her. "Another European, no? Italy? Looks like SHIELD is- er, - having a wide selection." He'd struggled there for a moment, but had thankfully recovered before embarrassing himself. Not that he often felt embarrassed, but it was difficult when people were critiquing his language at every word. "I'm from Denmark - Aarhus."
Lol. Don't worry about it. It's one of the bigger national languages here, which is why I noticed. xP My character isn't really comic relief, but she's sort of the sweet, quiet one of the group. I can see her trying to calm down Damon and getting on with missions while others are arguing...
Country of origin: United States of America (New York)
Basic appearance: Rain has long, curly brown hair to her waist and bangs swept to the side. Her eyes are a light, piercing blue color and she stands at 5,3". She’s quite slim and petite, suiting to her power. Her facial features are delicate and 'sweet' – much like a, ‘girl next door.’ Costume: She hasn’t really made a proper costume yet, but she prefers to wear black exercise leggings and a black t-shirt, along with goggles – she’d learned about bugs the hard way, and the leggings offer her freedom of movement.
Skills: ~ Unassuming. People tend to think that she’s not a threat, and she doesn’t exactly look like a superhero. She’s sort of a fan of Natasha, since she’s also on the short side and is often underestimated too (from the stories she’s read, anyway). It can be an advantage for infiltration and combat.
~ Perception. Rain tends to notice things other people might not when it comes to emotions and body language. She’s a good reader of how people are feeling, and although she’s often in the background, she tends to hear a lot more than those who always talk. This is a result of her being quite sensitive, and having a high EQ.
Powers: ~ Super speed. Rain can run really, really fast. Like, to the point where the world seems to almost stop around her. Her body is reinforced to stand the forces that super speed creates. That’s it, really. [Example: youtube.com/watch?v=1NnyVc8r2SM ]
Brief bio: Rain grew up in a single parent household with her mother, who was the daughter of South African expats. She was never told who her father was, and the most her mother would say was that it was too dangerous to stay with him – although he wasn’t a bad man. She has always wondered who he was.
She attended public school in New York, and gained her super speed at age 13. She didn’t use it for much, unsure and a little bit scared of what the authorities might do. When the Avengers came into the spotlight, she felt a little more accepted. However, that was also when her mother found out about her powers. For some reason, she freaked out and threw Rain out of the house for a few days. Eventually they reconciled, but their relationship was never the same.
Rain felt lost and alone, and wanted to do something with her powers. She contacted SHIELD through a long process, and after some tests, they decided to take her on for the team.

Initial observation report: Super speed ability, similar to that of Quicksilver and the Flash. Experience has shown this ability to be extremely useful in the right hands. Subject is timid and will need encouragement as well as extensive physical training.
Training regimen/expertise: ~ Basic combat training. No experience. ~ Strength training. Subject can break walls at high speeds, but needs this for better combat skills. ~ Infiltration training.
Potential outlook: Potential for a very good de-escalator of hazardous situations and rescuing civilians in harm's way.
Best case scenario: Icon of safety for civilians. Disabler of enemies, infiltration.
Worst case scenario: Possibility of being too shy to be useful in combat. Relegated to saving civilians in the way of Avengers. Extreme unlikelihood of uncontrolled powers or villainous tendencies.
DNA tests showed paternal relation to [REDACTED].
I'm unsure over whether or not her hair should be silver. It could make it a little too obvious who her father is?
Oh no, the Quicksilver I love is the X-Men version. He is like, perfect comic relief. So no worries there. Also, did you mean Zulu/isiZulu? x'D@BlackPanther
@Winter Kitten All I said was that I can speak a bit of Afrikaans - I took it up to IGCSE Second Language level. I'm not fluent, but I can definitely help you out with some stuff! Also maybe my new charrie should speak it???? Maybe her mother was an expat...
I also love myself a smexy Bucky and a smexy Wolverine. ;) X-Men Quicksilver is so cute though. Adorable.
Also, I don't see the lyric, despite the fact that I also like that song... D: EDIT: Oh right, my title lol.
Woot woot. I'm thinking of someone shy, since we have a lot of confident/broody/loud (coughcopencough) I usually pair her with water powers, but since Copen has that going on, I'm considering super speed. Would she be allowed to be, say, a niece of Quicksilver? Or maybe a lost love child for the angst when she's wondering about her real father...
@Winter Kitten Garret speaks Afrikaans??? :O 10/10 Ek kan n bietjie Afrikaans praat and I'm half Afrikaans... It's such a random language, why did you pick it? x'D
Haha I just recently learned that I've been accepted for engineering, and am currently sorting out accommodation. Nice distraction in the midst of mid year exams x'D
Ay, I've been thinking of creating another character... A girl, in this case. Would this still be okay at this point? :3
Copen was waiting in a designated area nearby his bed and breakfast, his blue suitcase waiting next to him. The day was bright and clear - fresh, he reflected, like the start of his new life today. The Avengers were famous all around the world, including Europe and even Denmark; people gasped at the stories in the newspaper and the one time that Tony Stark had flown overhead on a whim, social media had gone crazy. He ran a hand through his unruly blond hair, tilting his head back to stare at the sky. They'd told him that a small aircraft was coming to pick him up, but he couldn't see anything yet...
The handsome young man had to wait a few minutes more, and used them up by scrolling through Facebook. There were messages on his wall, wishing him luck - and he smiled to himself, albeit a little sadly. He'd miss his family. Hell, he already did. The vegetation around him started to wave, and he felt a strong gust of wind lifting up tendrils of his hair. He glanced up from his phone, mouth dropping open slightly at the sight. "Woah." That wasn't any ordinary helicopter, that was for sure.
Suddenly smiling, he picked up his suitcase with ease and walked confidently over to the aircraft. After a moment's hesitation, he walked up the runway to be greeted with the sight of three other young guys. At least two looked friendly enough. "Hej," he greeted them, his Danish accent coming through perhaps a little too strongly. Copen grinned his usual charming smile, putting his suitcase down and glancing around with no small amount of awe before returning his dark blue gaze to them. "This is... pretty cool. I'm Copen." It was an announcement to both of them, his loud voice carrying through the room.
He could see from the windows that the helicarrier was lifting itself off the ground again - impressive, seeing as he'd felt nothing. Deciding that it would be safest to sit, he plopped himself down on one seat and looked at them all expectantly.
