Hiccup was always busy these days and it was hard to find the time to even worry. Yeah, Toothless was yet to come back but he didn’t know if this was to be expected of his kind- there was no other dragons like him (though Aurora was similar), maybe it was just taking him awhile to find a suitable mate? There was a number of possibilities that could be holding him up and even though the other dragons had all returned Hiccup was patient. He kept himself busy, very busy. There was plenty of things he didn’t want to focus on right now.
He found himself in the deserted great hall- once more altering the pages of their trusty dragon book and wondering if it would be easier to just replace it. So much of the information was incorrect. Earlier that day he had been taking tally of the new hatchlings in their village and knew some things had to change but… He idled on the page about the nightfury. It was all his doing. He knew Toothless would come back. He just… wondered why he hadn’t yet.
That was when he heard his name and looked up to find he was no longer alone in here, struck dumb by the unexpected visitor but once she began to talk it became clear. “Toothless isn’t back yet.” He closed the book to offer his full attention. “I figured he was just taking his time setting the mood but I am a little bit worried…” He admitted “it’s not like him to stay away for so long.” Or at all- he was use to having the dragon around at all times.
He got to his feet, scooting around the bench seat. “You want to go check on them? I don’t know if he goes to the same nest as the others…” Still he headed for the vast doors and stepped out into the sunlight. Most dragons would come up to him- especially in the absence of Toothless so getting one for the journey was a task made easy. He climbed onboard and encouraged the girl to do the same “come on, before anyone ask where I’m going…” He added under his breath before taking off.
