A tall shinigami with wavy blonde hair, some of which hung in his face, looked out to his classroom of a dozen students after hearing the message. He wore the usual shinigami garb with black rimmed glasses sitting on his face.
“In an hour time, the annual Hakuda tournament - courtesy of our own Captain Masumata and his Seventh Division, is going to take place.."
Kira Yoshiro, 3rd seat officer of the 4th squad got the message while teaching a class on healing techniques. He closed his eyes, putting a hand to his forehead with an irritated expression on his face.
"Really?" he whispered in annoyance. He looked up to the classroom of bewildered students. "Well?" he said, waiting for an answer from the class. "What do you think we're going to do?" he asked.
"Go to the 7th and participate?" one student said.
That immediately got the student kicked out of the classroom with a reprimand. Kira pointed to the door, shouting at the student in a harsh tone. "If you want to participate, go right ahead! Guess who'll be there to pick your ass up off of the floor when you get beat down?" he asked as the student stumbled and nearly tripped on his way out the door.
"We will!" he said, regaining some of his composure and addressing the rest of the class, which were down to 11 people now. He hated surprises, especially 'extra' assignments like these.
"I know it's your first week here in the academy, but they will need help during the tournament and it's better to teach you how to treat injuries this way instead of throwing you to the wolves, so to speak."
"Better to treat bumps and bruises, at worst broken bones than attacks from hollows or swords. For those of you who don't know, the Hakuda tournament is strictly hand-to-hand combat."
Kira started to gather his papers and put them in his desk drawer. "Alright, gather your things and head to the 7th district! I'll meet you there." he said in a loud voice. After his students headed out towards the district, he adjusted his glasses and locked the door behind him, thankful for the moments of silence that followed as he made his way to the 7th district.
