I could use a cheer-me-up right about now.
In GURPS? 10 yrs ago Forum: Spam Forum
Is anyone here familiar with GURPS? I'm thinking of going over to a nearby tabletop gaming store and getting some GURPS books.

What's really gotten my attention is that it's supposed to be oriented towards realism and detail, or so I've heard. I haven't really been able to go anywhere with D&D or D20 Modern, so I'm thinking that GURPS might be a good system to try out.
Beyond a listening ear, I really don't know what I can do to help. I wish him peace, and I'll try and be here for you in these tough times. You've got my Skype, after all.

Makes me think of how much longer my grandmother is gonna be around. She's been losing it a bit lately, and I don't know how I'm gonna keep myself together if she does pass away soon. Especially knowing that I've already got enough other things to deal with myself, but this thread isn't about me. I'll save my own gripes for a different thread.
I'm too baked for this shit.
This reminded me that I want to dress up as Uncle Fester for Halloween and go around scaring little kids.

Though I could also pull off a mean Trevor Philips look if I don't shave myself bald again like I did recently.

"Kids these days" thread #549681

In all seriousness though, I'm not planning on having any kids myself, but if my brother or my friends ever have any kids, I want to be their eccentric uncle that introduces them to all these cool things from days long past. Even stuff from years and decades beyond my time.
Here's another thing I'd like to share. I use this for when I want to focus on a particular area somewhere in the world and give the area of play some rough boundaries.

http://wikimapia.org/country/

This is pretty much a database of locations all around the world, from Afghanistan all the way to Zimbabwe. What I do is that I select a place in a state/province in a country, and I'll use the places listed under said place as a rough boundary of my RP.

Just a word of advice though, I'd still recommend using your imagination to fill the gaps, so to speak. The locations listed under each place can range from only covering schools and fast food chains to being absolutely cluttered with random placemarks. You'll find the latter quite often in the Middle East, North Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. For example, if you wanted to do something in the vein of The Walking Dead, you'd probably want to cross reference with Google Maps, Panoramio, and 360 Cities. Random houses and other unmarked locations can be interesting places too. Though if you were doing random houses and other private addresses, you'd probably want to make them up. It's nice to have the real world as a big reference for your RP, but it can also be pretty creepy to use somebody's real address for your RP.
Bad news.

I thought it would be easier for me to join an RP rather than create one, but when things start speeding up too fast, I lose my focus, and all my ideas start spilling out and I'm unable to get them back.

I won't be joining, and I'm honestly really disappointed in myself for announcing this. I'm still too disorganized, and one of my buddies might be giving me voice acting work any time now. Nonetheless, I wish you all a wonderful RP, and may the water you find not shine at you in the dark.
Unless things happen, expect a character sheet from me tomorrow. It's late here.
Badass killing machines are overrated, I'll say that much.

As this is going to be my first Advanced game, I'd like to provide some further thought. As nice and juicy as 3+ paragraph posts are, I find that Advanced standards shouldn't really be dictated by length of material as they should by the amount of dedication and effort both the GM and players are putting in to the RP. I can definitely put in 2-3 paragraphs no problem on average, but when it involves interaction between PCs, I end up having to make collab posts on Piratepad just so I can reach the 3+ paragraph limit that folks normally expect in Advanced. And collab posts can be hard to set up because then I have to put everyone's time schedules into account.
