@Therealslayer Honestly, nothing in particular. It's completely up to you, I don't want anybody to feel like they have to make a certain type of character. As long as they aren't the generic 'super badass army guy' it's cool, haha.
@BilboTheGreat

Accepted.

@Kidd Would you still be interested in making antagonist characters with me?
@LostDestiny

Accepted.
@Marshall I'm not a fan of cartoons or anime and things like that for characters. I'd much rather you use real pictures and find a face claim. If you can find drawn pictures that are incredibly detailed then you can use them but other than that, I'm afraid not.

On January 11th 2017 a genetically engineered virus escaped from the CDC in Texas when the facility became the victim of a terrorism attack. By time the US could send a response team, what was left of the CDC was covered in blood and most of the virus' victims had already left. Soon after 911 calls started coming in, with terrified callers reporting that there were crazy people running about attacking and killing people in the middle of the street. From here things only got worse. Much, much worse.

Within three days, the whole city was infected. Police forces weren't equipped to deal with the infected, and when the army was finally called in they weren't told what they were up against as the government was trying to prevent mass panic. They weren't ready, and they were slaughtered. Three weeks later, every major population centre in the state had fallen to the infected. Panic set in within citizens, and with everyone trying to leave at the same time highways became gridlocked. These gridlocked highways became heaven for the infected, they stormed through the parked cars and fleeing crowds and killed everyone. They carried on up the highways until they got to the next major city, and so the cycle repeated. Within two months, most of the US had fallen to the infected. Mexico had been infected, and the infection had started making appearances in Europe. Washington DC was the last place to fall, and after that, the United States of America was no more. This cataclysmic event would be forever known to the world as The Collapse.

By July 24th 2017, the world was a completely different place. All infrastructure had completely shut down. The lights have turned off. Running water is a thing of the past. Money is only worth burning. The infected roam the streets, joined by survivors who will do anything to survive. When you live in a world like this, how are you going to get through the days?

Hello! Welcome to The Collapse. This is a zombie apocalypse role play set six months and thirteen days after the initial outbreak, in New York City. The aim of this role play is for us to tell a story, an interesting tale of survival and Human nature with well developed characters and relationships that we hopefully come to really care about. Things will get dark and gritty, and we won't be skipping over the eventual deaths of some of our characters. I'm looking for a diverse set of characters, so that things wont get boring and everyone can bring something different to the table. Not everyone is going to know how to survive already, some people might have been lucky and have remained hidden for the last six months, not really having to get their hands dirty. And lastly, your not going to have unlimited ammo and amazing weapons. Your going to have to use other things apart from guns, and your going to have to think about when you do. If this sounds like something your interested in, I'd love to have you join.

We all hate rules, but we have to have them.

-No poweplaying/godmoding.
-No controlling anybody elses characters. Ever.
-Always get permission before injuring or hurting another character.
-Swearing, Violence and gore are allowed.
-One paragraph per post as a minimum.
-If your writing smut, skip over it or take it too a pirate/etherpad.
-All standard RPG rules apply.

The infected: mindless, bloodthirsty monsters stuck in a state of constant anger and rage fuelled adrenaline. They can run faster than us. They can climb. They are attracted by sound. Luckily for you they are only thinking about one thing, which is killing. This means they are stupid, and can be outsmarted if your not too busy running for your life. The infected constantly bleed out of their nose, eyes and mouths due to internal haemorrhaging, and have blood red eyes. They spread the infection through bodily fluids, so if any infected blood or saliva manages to get into your body, even a small amount, and your gone for. The incuation period for becoming an infected after being infected is also incredibly short. After the infected fluids get into your system, you have 20-30 seconds before the infection has completely taken over your body. During this short time, you will begin to vomit blood, bleed from every orifice. Your head will burn, as will your muscles. You will start to spasm, and you will never stop. When the constant adrenaline kicks in, there's nothing left.

Accepted Characters:

Groups: (This will be filled out when our characters start to form groups, so don't worry about it for now)

Definitely interested.
Okay, so these are the things that it appears most of us have agreed on and are happy with:

-Having a diverse set of characters.
-Having dangerous zombies that actually pose a threat, similar to RAGE zombies.
-People versus people, to add an extra degree of danger and so we can explore what people will do to survive.
-Death happening, but not so often that people wont have time to develop characters and tell a story.
-Having guns, but ammo being rare, and zombies being attracted to sound so people think about using them.
-Setting it six months to a year into the apocalypse so we still had a skill gap between characters.

I'm hoping to start on the OOC today and have it up by some point tomorrow. If there is anything I've forgotten or anything else we haven't discussed yet it would be best if you could tell me before then.

One more thing. Do you think when I open the OOC it should be open to more applications, or should we only have people from this IC at first?

@Banzai Tracers@LostDestiny

That makes sense. I think that's a good idea, having it set a little later back so there is less ammo about rather than having it somewhere guns are illegal.

Anybody disagree?
So I've read through all of the suggestions and people seem to be saying these things:

We need diverse characters to keep things interesting and realistic. There also needs to be a real element of danger so that the world really impacts these characters and will cause them to make decisions they wouldn't normally. I like the idea of this as I personally would like to see it be a more dark, gritty roleplay. We shouldn't have one leader, or a predefined team, so that we can shape our characters as we wish and all of the characters can bring individual skills to the table. There should be some environmental threats too, and our characters shouldn't be running around with AK-47's and sniper rifles and rocket launchers with unlimited ammo. People should be a threat to people, not just having the zombies as the main threat. People can die, but not all the time, so that character development and relationships can actually be explored and a story can be told.

Regarding the actual zombies, I like the idea of having them be like the infected with the RAGE virus. That's my favourite zombie virus and it would work well if we want more danger. However, I'm not sure if the 20-30 second turn timer would be good or not.

A way to tackle the problem of everyone having advanced weapons is having the setting somewhere guns are illegal or uncommon which would sort out the problem fairly easily.

Another idea I thought of when dealing with people vs people, is if our characters didn't all form into one group. They could form into two separate groups, and at some point they come across each other and end up not being very good friends. Either that or we have some dangerous npc gangs and bandits.
