Alright, I must go to bed now, see you guys tomorrow!
I trying to find a way to make Mason more self-confident. Honestly, he just screwed up in the battle. If anything he'll probably be less confident in himself. I tend to create difficult characters. They're fun until you trying and fix them, then they're just a pain.
Maybe it spikes to show fear, or drops when the person falls into unconsciousness.

I'm toying with the idea of having Mason have some kind of injury-induced dream/hallucination. Good idea?
Forgot about that.......
Welcome back Lily. *Brushes self off* Somewhat decent combat scene written and posted.
Mason swallowed as the gate opened, his momentary surge of bravado was gone. The fear was back, enveloping everything. He started to sweat. The creature that crawled out of the gate was terrifying, just like it's predecessor. Mason forced himself to remember his plan, use Tianqi's teaching to blow it back, then torch it. Simple enough.... right?

All that fled from his mind as the creature pounced. Mason barely dodged out of the way in time. Suddenly, he noticed the excruciating pain in his right arm. Breathing is essential to Lucen. Right, breathe and push He extended his right hand and the creature slipped back a little bit. Damn, I need more power. Screw Lucen, use Viper.

The creature pounced again. This time he was more ready for it. What he wasn't ready for was the pain as he rolled over his his arm with the gash in it. There was nothing left, he screamed and pushed. He could practically feel the air moving away from him and slamming into the creature. This time, Mason barely conscious, from the stress and injury, willed a stream of fire to extend from his forehead to the creature; lighting the creature on fire. It was satisfying to see it burn. He slipped away into unconsciousness.
Sorry, I had the same thought!
Mason looked around briefly and, seeing no one else standing to volunteer, said, "Er.... I will." Damn it, if Nessie can do it, so can I. He made his way to the cage and locked gazes with Z, the man who was responsible for imprisoning him here; then he walked into the cage.
Mason walked past the silent soldiers, guarding the exits. They were strangely silhouetted in the red light. It was eerie. Mason opened the door to the southern wing to see it was changed, what had once resembled a training area now looked more like a place where an underground cage fight might go down. The ginger didn't think it prudent to volunteer first, much better to wait, and formulate a plan than to charge in head first.

Mason was shocked, that Nessie had gone first surprised him, not necessarily that she had gone first, more like that she had volunteered to go first. He felt his heart clench in fear as he watched the fight. I hope she will be alright.
Does "everybody else get out" mean we need to leave the room? Or something else I'm missing?
