Hi.

I really liked the description of this setting in the interest check and the characters posted so far.

Character below, it's mostly done though I might change it a little, let me know what you think and feel free to make constructive criticism!

Thanks.

Great, now I see it too. <----- Arachnophobic

Personally, I think it's MissCapnCrunch's way of unsettling everyone before the story begins...dundundun!
Gotta say, I wouldn't want to be the character who gets stuck in the basement bedroom...

Also, the image of the the interior has become a picture of a tarantula for some reason. :D Could just be me though...
Hi all.

I've read the interest thread and the characters here so hopefully this fits with the theme. Let me know if there's anything you dislike and you want/think needs changing. Equally, if there are things you like about the character and would want them emphasized in the rp, let me know too!

Thanks.

Appearance:

Name: Scott James Felton

Age: 32

Gender: Male

Role: Accidental Athlete

Likes: Sport (Watching and playing), showing off, any opportunity to prove his physical superiority, fast cars, attractive women, conflict, showing off, being outdoors, hard work, coaching and motivating others, did I mention showing off? Is starting to appreciate helping others succeed, more and more.

Dislikes: Being stuck indoors, people who are slow and/or inactive, thought puzzles, people who complain about minor things. Deep and meaningful conversation makes him feel uneasy; he avoids anything related to feelings.

Personality: Competitive, stubborn and determined, a do-er not a thinker, impatient, short tempered, sensitive (but he hides it well), sentimental about his time at the school.

Relationships: A number of failed relationships and short-term flings in his early 20s. No meaningful relationships recently as he has trouble connecting with others due to the fact he sees people's weaknesses and downsides instead of their positives, though he is working on changing this with his coaching. Was too focused on sport at school to be anything more then friends with the girls there.

Biography: The third son in a family of athletes, Scott looked up to his older brothers in everything and tried to imitate their sporting success at school. He loved being the best in his class but found academic studies uninteresting. In breaks he preferred spending time with his older brothers and their friends as they provided more of a competitive challenge. After getting into trouble in various classes his parents decided that perhaps a more isolated education away from the distractions of his brothers would be better for Scott, allowing him to develop into his own person rather than constantly trying to live up to someone else. So it was that he came to be at Rising Sun. Under request from his father, he was permitted to go to sports clubs during weekday evenings and weekends so that his athletic talent did not go to waste.

As a consequence, Scott spent less time with the other kids out of school hours. He enjoyed their company for the most part and loved telling them about his achievements in whatever sport club he'd just been to. He found listening to the others a bit less interesting, however. One person he did look up to was Derek, who was one of if not the oldest at the school and acted as the group's leader. Scott would fall into line and laugh when he teased the other kids, though he rarely called them names himself.

Scott progressed through college, continuing his achievements in sport. Just as he was making it big as a professional he was involved in a nasty car accident which broke both his legs. Although Scott had been driving too fast at the time he fiercely maintains it was the other guy's fault. The doctors did not think he would ever walk again, but when Scott eventually got fed up of being restricted to a wheelchair he took a load of painkillers, got some crutches and with the help of a friend single-mindedly practised walking until he could do it properly. Amazed, the doctors reasoned that by doing what he had done, Scott had forced his bones into the correct position and they slowly healed in the right place. Remarkably, he walks today with no hint of anything amiss.

While he conquered walking, Scott was never able to return to his life as a professional sportsman so he channelled his love of sport into coaching. He gets some joy from helping others succeed but when he looks at himself he only sees a bitter failure who did not achieve what he could have done. It's from these feelings that his impatient nature comes from.

Other Notes: Claustrophobic. Won't admit it but suffers from recurring nightmares about his accident. Startled at the sound of anything resembling a car horn or screeching brakes. Typically early to bed; he wakes up at 6:00 am to go for a morning run, without fail. Hasn't kept in touch with anyone from the school so does not know what to expect - he barely remembers their names and who they were.
Ted McKenzie - The Bridge - SS-Name-Unknown

Ted immediately liked the plan, a good old fashioned spaceship stand-off. Followed by a hit-and-run quick getaway. Secretly, he hoped that the cargo ship would try some funny business and he'd get to chase them down through the asteroid field. That sounded like fun.

Ghost obviously didn't like the plan; Ted watched as he said something about not being wanted unless things went wrong and then promptly disappeared from view. For the short time that Ghost had been aboard the ship Ted had on the whole appreciated his company, though he didn't half get cranky if he wasn't shooting something. It had been a bit quiet recently, to be fair...

Returning to the present, Ted turned to Iwakawa before speaking. "That's a fine plan Cap'n. I just have one question...when do we intercept the cargo ship?" Knowing Iwakawa as he did, it could very well be mere hours away, the urgency with which everyone had been called together seemed to indicate that. Regardless, knowing when the mission was likely to occur would allow Ted get himself properly focused. Also, if there was time to burn, he figured he'd join Ghost and possibly Miyu down at the unofficial shooting range - exploding fluffy toys with guns was as fun as it sounded.

Suddenly the smell of smoke reached him and Ted coughed slightly. What did that guy smoke? Ted had thought the smell would have gone when Ghost left the room.
My post is up. Turned into a bit of a lengthy one but as everyone has posted twice I think it balances out OK.
Ted McKenzie - Private Quarters - SS-Name-Unknown

The noise from the crowd was deafening, people were screaming and chanting his name as Ted ascended the podium. He couldn't contain himself and a huge grin split his face as he looked around. Soon the announcer would call his name and then he'd receive the trophy, in fact, the elderly gentleman put the microphone to his lips and took a deep breath...

"HEY EVERYBODY!"

Wait, that didn't seem right...

"Guess what your awesome and fantastic captain just located!"

Reality slowly dawned on Ted as he recognised the source of the voice. Not quite in his head, but from the wall mounted speaker a few feet away. And no-one had a more... distinctive voice.

Groaning as he heard the instructions, Ted lifted himself to a seating position, before clutching his pounding head. Spotting a few empty bottles of space rum lying on the floor brought scenes of last night's antics to mind. He could almost remember it clearly, well he was pretty sure he and the more fun-loving members of the crew had enjoyed some drunken card games and maybe a movie or two. Ted took a deep breath and puffed out his cheeks. Could he be bothered to go the meeting? he wondered. Lying back down in bed did seem a much more inviting proposition...

Several minutes later Ted laboured down the corridor towards the bridge. He'd dunked his head in some cold water to try and wake up and had pulled on some casual clothes to look semi-respectable for the time of morning. He'd also grabbed himself a chilled drink of water to help stave off the downsides of the emerging hangover. Perhaps he'd see if HAMU had anything this time, although it seemed as if humans (and indeed robots made by humans), no matter how advanced they now where, had still not found a cure for 'the hangover'. In the end Ted had reasoned that it was best to attend the meeting so he could hear the plans first-hand (and Captain Yuriko did not like it when people were absent from anything she organised, even when it was something like a stupid highly enjoyable Karaoke Night). Plus, it was rare for the whole crew to be in one place at the same time so there was a certain novelty factor involved.

The bridge had multiple entrances depending on how it was approached from different parts of the ship. Ted entered seemingly from the opposite side to the rest of the occupants and the room was already in conversation. He exchanged knowing glances with some of the crew as he traipsed in, before stopping mid-stride, staring blankly across the room. There was Ghost, sitting in the pilot's seat.
His seat.
After a moment Ted decided it wasn't worth reclaiming his comfy seat and draw more attention to his lateness. Though in reality, he didn't think he could stomach the smell of smoke from whatever it was the scout was smoking. Not at this hour. Instead he ambled up to the nearby railings that encircled the main platform area and propped himself against them, paying attention to the conversation for the first time.

"...If you don't mind, Captain, I can go and double-check the space we have in our hold to ensure the most accurate calculations."

Ted smiled to himself, If he had a gram of Sakuraium every time the Quartermaster Kin said the phrase "Double-check", he wouldn't need to rob a cargoship ever again.

"Hey, why not just take control of the transport ship instead of having to mess around with transporting its freight onto our ship. I would assume it would save us some time."

The gunner Miyu was one of the crew members Ted liked most aboard the ship. She was easy to have fun with, particularly as she, like him, enjoyed playing video games in periods of dullness on the ship, although she did play a little too many shooting games and too few racing games.
Taking control of the cargo ship would probably not be too difficult, depending on how well defended it was. Piloting it was another matter entirely. Cargo ships were incredibly bulky and difficult to manoeuvre - they were designed and built to go in one direction at a consistent speed after all. The vast majority had their top speeds limited as part of the UEGSC's commitment to safer space travel and owning companies invested in hidden tracking devices aboard the ship to minimise losses in notorious space pirate zones. Also, one couldn't very well hide a great big cargo ship without drawing attention to oneself. No, Ted reckoned they'd have to take what cargo they could, or, divert the cargo ship to a very local space port, make a quick profit on anything they could sell quickly, dump the ship and abandon the area before people came looking for it.

As he opened his mouth to speak, a wave of nausea swept over him and instead he quietly sipped his water. He was pretty sure Captain Yuriko had a plan in mind and would reveal it shortly.
Opsie, that double post though...
VitaVitaAR said We do need a pilot.

Here's my shot. Let me know if you want/think something needs changing.

If accepted I'll do my best to get a post in the IC this time tomorrow so as not to hold things up.

Thanks.

Name: Edward McKenzie (Nicknames include Ed, Eddie, Ted, McKenzie and, very rarely, Teddie)
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Appearance: Link
Personality: Very assured in his abilities, confident but not overly boastful. He gets frustrated when others appear to fail at what they're supposed to be good at. He is happy to engage in conversation with the other crewmates but is distrustful at the same time. After all, everyone is a pirate and pirates are not to be trusted. Has become more laid-back after the addition of a dedicated navigator, "Red", taking some of the mental weight from him and allowing Ted to focus more on the piloting of the spaceship-that-has-no-name. Though this has lead to a lapse into a bit of a drinking tendancy and whenever things get too dull or repetitive on board the ship, Ted will happily explore the local night-life when the ship docks at a space system.
Skills: Piloting (of course). Going at speed and taking evasive manoeuvres are things learned from an early age and practised throughout his life. Having roamed space for a number of years, Ted is familiar with popular pirate locations for trading stolen goods, getting inside information and also laying low when required. Ted is also good with numbers, though the opportunity to put this to use has decreased somewhat after Kin, the Quartermaster, joined the ship. It is now mostly put to the important issue of ensuring he gets his fair share of any exploits. In addition, while not so much a skill as a sixth sense, he often knows when it's time to back out of a mission and make a swift getaway.
Equipment: Fairly minimal. A portable computer allowing him to connect with the outside world is his prized possession. He also has a collection of handguns from the time humans lived solely on Earth (some work, others are for show). Ted prefers to leave the fighting to others; he knows the best place for him to be is aboard the ship, ready to make a fast exit if things go south.
Brief Backstory: One of the original members of the crew, Ted was there to witness Iwakawa Yuriko winning the current spaceship (though he has disclosed the exact details to no-one so far). Having been an avid admirer of the ship himself, he imediately offered his services to the new captain to pilot the ship. After all, she was barely old enough to drive a land-based vehicle, let alone a spaceship! After some careful consideration he was accepted to the crew.
Up until that point Ted had been a reliable getaway pilot for other pirate ships in nearby space systems, spending a couple of years with a ship before moving on to the next. Any job that paid well and filled the adrenaline rush of going at high speed was his first choice.
In his youth Ted had been a promising racing talent, first on land and then in space. However the allure of money proved too great and he got involved with various illegal race-fixing incidents. Eventually caught and disqualified from racing anywhere near his local space system, Ted left to get involved with space piracy, using some of his shady connections at the time, knowing that an ordinary day-job would just not cut it for him.
What keeps him with the current crew is the ship, mainly, but also the surprisingly good payouts for a relatively new band of pirates, lead by a comparitively inexperienced captain.
