Night Before

James ducked his head slightly when the Geri shifted. Eyes on the ground he chuckled weakly, [color=8dc73f]I guess I wasn't really living......Not till now...[color]

He closed his eyes and focused on the change. Slowly, it overtook his body and he winced visibly.
Fur melted away and his bones reformed; eventually replacing the wolf with the body of a man.

Standing he was still reluctant to look at the woman. From what he had seen of her she was very beautiful......but being inexperienced with the ways of pack living he was still a little uncomfortable. Part of him thought it would be disrespectful; looking upon a naked woman.

Stepping in after the Geri he found himself in a small yet warm cabin. Shuddering the cold off himself he glanced around with a small smile.

The night was quiet and he managed to sleep quiet nicely in one of the cabin's cots.

Morning

James awoke slowly; a yawn escaping him as he sat up in the stiff cot. The blankets were a little scratchy....but nothing compared to the hotel beds he had to sleep in on the road.

Running a hand through his brown hair James recalled the happenings of the night before. He was rather excited to have finally found a pack willing to have him......hopefully he could learn a few things from them.
James took a shallow breath when the female told him he would need to learn of these hunters' ways if he wanted to survive. Grimacing he nodded for a moment, then heard the other wolf mention returning to the pack......and it didn't seem as though she was forcing him to leave.....

Smiling he stepped foreword; skirting past the blood on the ground. The Ulfric of the pack was mentioned, and James blinked slightly when he came to realize the female was speaking of the other, larger, wolf that had been present. I appreciate you letting me come with you....and yes I assure you I'm not looking to cause opany trouble......even if it certainly looked that way when I found you

His voice was a chuckle in her mind, but when he thought of the pain that came with seeing the dead female he went quiet for a moment.
Eventually, he looked up at the Geri, Im afraid however that I don't have many beans to spill. I'm a rather extra-unordinary person.......As a human I lived alone in a sad little apartment with a sad little job......then I was turned.......I guess the changing was painful that first time.....but until now I've never really had any interest in my wolf side.......that's why I'm here.
James had stood quietly while the female seemed to weigh the options of speaking to him, or force him to leave. For a moment the image of her pouncing on him and tearing out his throat came to mind....but he chose to ignored it.

When she seemed to calm and sit back into the snow, he heard her speak; although it wasn't vocal. James had always been intruiged by their kind's ability to speak telepathically....although he wasn't a master of it yet.

The female wolf's voice was stern and full of a reigning confidence that made James wonder if she was a higher ranking wolf.....one of the 'enforcers' of the pack. He thought that was what it was called.

When the image of the female finding the bodies came to his mind he tilted his head in awe. So werewolves could transfer mental images to each other as well? Interesting....

She mentioned hunters and strange werewolves such as himself, as if they were becoming common around here. James remembered hearing about hunters and what they did to their werewolf prey......he realized that moments before he could have been staring at such a being's work.

Answering the female's question he attempted to speak telepathically to her; faltering at first, "I'm James..."

It was then that the other wolf stood and approached him, making James' body stiffen under her judging gaze. He tried to keep his eyes on her as she did a circle around him; remaining still and almost unfazed.

She then asked a second question....one James had to ponder on for a moment. Should he state his reasons for coming up here?

Might as well keep honest with the locals......maybe this female is a member of the Odessa pack.

James nodded, "I was in town when I stumbled across an elderly woman.....a wolf who used to live in these mountains."

Looking the other wolf in the eye he made an effort to appear as honest and peaceful as possible, "She sent me up here in search of the Odessa pack.....because you see.....I'm in need of some help."

There was a pause to let his words sink in, before he sighed, "I was changed a few months back.....but given certain circumstances I never took the moments to learn anything of my wolf side. I was hoping I could find a pack willing to tell me a few things, or point me in another direction for answers."

He half mindedly glanced to the blood pools in the snow, "Never did I think I'd come across....this..."

James growled at the sight of the other wolves; wondering for a moment if they had murdered the others. His body tensed and a snarl threatened to escape his throat.
But then a second female with dark fur gave him a threatening growl and moved to stand between the bodies and him. She almost seemed protective.....

Frowning James went quiet and stared at her, then spoke softly, "How did they die?"
He gestured with his muzzle to the corpses and nodded, "Was it you?" His voice broke with a suppressed growl.

Stepping slowly foreword the male watched the others. They were as tense as he.....and only the one had blood on her body....

His anger for the one female's death slowly diminished and he stood up with a flick of his tail. For a moment his eyes rested on the male in the back.....a rather large wolf.
James was running through the trees at a brisk trot when the howl rose up in the distance. Sliding to a stop his ears flicked this way and that, before he let out a short huff.

Stepping on he made an abrupt and brief howl in response to the first. It hadn't been that much farther ahead, and was filled with more of a warning tone. James didn't know if he should be worried, or relieved that a wolf had called out. Hopefully that meant that the blood he smelled on the air was from a wounded were, and not a dead body.

Coming to what looked to be a small clearing he slowed and gazed cautiously through the trees. Grey fur blending with his surroundings the male approached the tree line, then came into the open.

There, were two wolves.......and two corpses laying in a pool of their own blood.

James' blue eyes went wide and his body went stiff. One of the dead wolves, a female, caught his gaze.
A feeling of sadness and rage filled him, and he turned his stiff gaze to the two living wolves standing at the other side of the clearing. Had they done it?

The cold and bitter air nipped at James’ flesh as he trudged slowly, yet surely, atop the thick blanket of snow. His snowshoes kept him from sinking into the heavy banks and his entire human body was covered from head to toe in winter gear.

Looking up with ice blue eyes the man came to a stop and reached up to remove the thin waterproof hood from his head,

It’s a little ways further than I had anticipated…….God I hope that woman wasn’t leading me on a wild goose chase.

He thought back to the mysterious old woman he had tracked down, back in town. He had heard rumors and followed the crumb trail of information; leading him to the seemingly ancient werewolf female. He didn’t know if she had helped him…..or fooled him into climbing up a barren mountain for laughs.

He, seeking quidance and information about his wolf side, James had questioned her. But she refused to tell him of anything on her own. Said she was too old and crippled to give him the help he needed.

The old woman instead told him of a hidden pack located in the mountain range just outside of Odessa. She told him to look for a man named “Markus”. He was the Ulfric of the pack; a young strong male that she also warned James to be wary of at first.

She had said “Wouldn’t help having your innards thrown across the pretty white snow.”

Great…..lots of encouragement.

So now, he trudged up towards where she said the pack’s main shelter would be. He remained in human form not only because he wanted to seem as peaceful as possible, but because in truth he hadn’t used his wolf much……not until he had finally packed up and moved out of the city.

Suddenly, catching his breath, James’ senses picked up on the faint but detectable scent of fresh blood.
Blinking he tensed and sniffed the air; finding hints of male…..and female….werewolves.

Something pulled tight inside of him, and James was surprised to find himself growling under his breath.
His……mental tick…..if you called it that……edged to the surface.

As a child he had endured the pain of watching his mother beat and bloodied beneath the hand of his drunken father.
Because of it he was especially sensitive to instances when females were threatened or injured.

And now…..it seemed as though he smelled one’s blood on the wind….

Growling again James marched foreword through the snow at a threateningly fast pace.
There was a ripping sound, and he winced when he felt the change come over his body.

Slowly the man fell foreword onto his hands and knees in the snow, but he continued relentlessly on towards the source of the blood scent. The clothes on his back ripped beneath the reshaping body underneath, then fell away and crumpled in the snow.

Fur grew at a rapid pace and protected him from the cold, and finally, a grey wolf stood in the equally pale snow around him.
Black ears twitching James' gait suddenly faltered and he blinked, glancing back to find one of his snowshoes still tied against his boot; with his paw now stuck inside.

Shaking his head he kicked his hind leg sharply and flung the nuisance away, before turning and running foreword over the surface of the snow.

I really should have stuck to this form in the beginning.

It went to show just how little he knew of his wolf side.....he had to find that pack.....

Hey everyone; sorry for going MIA. My place's internet connection went out, but forgot to let you guys know I'd be gone while fixing it. Ugh, never intended to take so long to come back.
@The Muse of Eru Thank you. :) CS is posted in Character's Tab.
Name: James Dauntly

Age: 23

Gender: Male

Sexual preference: Hetero

Human or werewolf: Werewolf

Pack member or loner: Loner

Pack name: None

Pack position: None, but would be towards the bottom.

Appearance (picture or written description): James stands at 6 feet in human form. He has dark hair and ice blue eyes, and as a wolf his fur is silver/black.

Strengths (at least 3): Adapts easily to difficult situations
willingly obeys his superiors when he finds them worthy
Excellent hunter and very patient

Weaknesses (at least 3): Although easy going, when James finds something he wants he stops at nothing to have it. Sometimes when rejected this can take an emotional toll on him.
Would rather have someone push him around than to start a fight.
Hasn’t much experience with pack life.

Personality: James is a go with the flow kind of fellow. Kind and considerate he seeks to do good for others before himself.
He respects his superiors and listens very well to orders, as long as he sees the superior in question a good leader to follow. When something is wrong, he does not question the reasons and reacts quickly.

James doesn’t like to challenge authority, much less other people. He prefers to let them shove him aside and is very much content with wherever he is placed.
He listens to the females and does not question their orders or needs unless necessary. Due to his mother being abused by her husband in the past he is very protective of females and gets incredibly hostile whenever one is doubted or threatened. These are some of the rare occurrences when James gets angry.

History: James lived alone in a city located not far from Odessa; owning a small apartment and working a low paying job. He was content with his life.

His average life was interrupted one day however, when he stumbled across one of the citie’s resident werewolves.
The wolf, a rather aggressive male, was angered by his discovery and attacked James. It was by pure luck and a mistake on the wolf’s part that James escaped alive. Nothing could have prepared him for the pain that came with his wound.

Eventually, James survived the changing. Surprisingly however, being a wolf didn’t alter his lifestyle for quite some time……almost months. Because of his easy personality he could control his animal side easily; so he chose to remain in the city. Almost nothing had changed. ……..until he started to grow curious of his second half.

James started to discover the things that came with being a werewolf…..the advantages, and the curses.
When he heard about the curse and the danger that awaited him should he not find a mate, he was worried.

Leaving his apartment he searched the city, and when that wasn’t successful, he began traveling the countryside.
It was slow….but eventually James stumbled across the Odessa pack. Time was running out, and this was one of his last chances to find his mate.
