Metou followed Gin to the door, but he was so excited that Metou couldn't keep up easily. Going out this late for because he wanted to sleep outside was the last straw, though. "We'll have plenty of nights under the stars on the trail, I'm sure, let's savor our roofs while we have them!" Metou said half-angrily and half-jokingly as they exited the inn. Once they were outside, Gin seemed to be indicating towards the marketplace where Yuudai ran off to. Despite how large her nose was, Metou didn't have a great sense of smell, probably even worse than a human's, and she was completely reliant on Gin to trail the others. "Lead the way," Metou said, hoping he wouldn't lead too quickly to keep up.
Seemingly as soon as she left the room, a plethora of interesting noises erupted from the burning room behind her. Screams of rage, a rampage of destruction, and the unmistakable noise of a gem injured enough to retreat to their gem. Their mission hadn't even begun and one of their troops was already down for the count! With her powers of levitation, Melanite was sitting upside-down, floating in the air just outside the room. She had expected everyone to merely follow her out, after all they surely wanted to get to Pearl as possible. But now it sounded like everyone was fighting each other, in full view of Steven, Garnet and Amethyst!

"Kekekekeke! This group is going to be a lot of fun, huh?" Melanite said to herself, spinning around in the air. She was tempted to poke her head back in and see what all the fuss was about, although she had a pretty good idea which of those gems could be causing the ruckus, but she didn't want to end up being the next gem poofed away. As far as she was concerned, she slipped out just in time to avoid dealing with any of that garbage. It was someone else's problem right now!

Outside the dimensional door was a fridge, in the house part of the temple. The act of consumption did appeal to Melanite, as a wandering spirit she utilized a gigantic mouth to consume many things, mainly for the purposes of horrifying others, and she vaguely remembered the kitchen as a place where humans ate things. Figuring no one would miss it if she ate any old thing lying around, Melanite floated over to the fridge, grabbed the bread box sitting next to it, emptied the bread out onto the floor and shoved the box into her mouth before struggling to chew it. Eventually she just ended up with a scratched up bread box stuck in her mouth.
In her corrupted form, Melanite was simply a formless magic around her gem, but unlike many others she retained memories and only acted defensively as the ghost of the lighthouse. That lack of violence made Melanite a good candidate for being restored to her former power, but it also meant Melanite remembers the discussions made around the burning room, the fear in the Crystal Gems, and she took it as a sign of what to come. It was her only impression of the enemy's power, and it wasn't an optimistic one. Melanite didn't even consider herself a formidable fighter in battle. On Homeworld she was an outdated gem that operated machinery, made obsolete by technical geniuses like the likes of Peridot or even Pearl, and as a monster she was just a nuisance to Steven and his friends. Being among the very first to engage the enemy was a terrifying concept.

However, as a homeworld gem she had a hand in the destruction the kindergartens started on Earth, and as a monster she brought misfortune to many humans throughout mystery who mistook her for a valuable stone. She more than owed it to the living things on Earth to fight for them now, and hope to repay it for the damages she had already caused to its inhabitants.

"Th-thank you for this opportunity, a-and all the work you have done so far," Melanite managed to choke out despite her nervousness. She rose off the ground, and looked around at her teammates briefly, all gems she did not recognize. Unable to bear the gaze of so many superiors for long, Melanite decided she would wait for the others outside before progressing, and she left.
Gin brought up an objection to Metou's new decision, and Metou immediately paused and turned to hear him out. Getting stuck out on the streets late at night was still a very unappealing possibility to Metou, even if this town didn't seem too bad. However, Metou respected Gin's abilities and decisions, or at least felt obligated to respect them despite not knowing him very well yet. More importantly she would hate for Gin to think he wasn't taken seriously, and bring down his confidence even lower than it already seemed. "I suppose I might be giving up too early, and we'd want to give Kiko a prompt response," Metou said, though with the slightly frustrated tone of someone who just had an early night's sleep ripped away from them for the sake of the greater good.

"Two of our companions went to see Lady Ru, so I know of a place they've been, at least," Metou said, "But Yuudai ran off to get food, so I have a fairly good idea of where she went too. If you're confident in your nose, we could try and track her down first."
No worries man, I got finals coming up anyway, no rush here
Metou was a bit unsatisfied with Gin's response, as he didn't really confirm or deny Metou's plan as a good one, and the old lady didn't think Gin's suggestion was very practical either. Metou felt guilty about dragging Gin around everywhere, but if he wanted guidance, Metou had no choice but to provide some. "If we rely on the observations of anyone we pass by, we'll be asking random people all night," Metou said, "We know where two of our fellows went, so I think we should start searching there, even if I'm sure they've left by now. Just give me a moment to look outside."

After exiting the inn, Metou looked at the sky to see how much time they had left in the evening. It was already late enough in the day that merchants were calling it quits when they got to the town square, and that was before they walked down a few streets to get to an inn and look for the musician. Not only was it too cold for Metou's comfort, and would only get colder, Metou didn't really want to be out on the streets at night when it was just her and Gin. Metou stepped back into the inn and walked back to Gin and said, "On second thought, I think we should just stay here for the night, and look for them in the morning." Metou was about to ask Gin for his opinion on the matter, but figured he'd just give a neutral answer again. "I'm going to go ask if they have any free rooms," Metou declared, and she walked up to the front counter to do so. Even after buying that cheap bauble to win the merchant's favor, she figured she had enough money for a room and some food at least.
I finally have my laptop running again, I'll try and post tonight.
"That sounds like a good idea, we'll return to this inn when the rest of our group comes to an agreement," Metou said. She didn't mind Kiko hearing what she said next, but it was directed to Gin, so Metou turned completely to him to discuss what they should do next. "I don't know where Yuudai and kenji ran off to, but Takumi and Jiang went to speak with Ru's leader. I'd honestly rather avoid speaking wtih them myself-"

Someone sitting at a table behind Metou noticed she was speaking ambiguously and with gender neutral pronouns. The man grabbed Metou by the shoulder to turn her slightly, and as a reflex Metou's hand darted halfway to her pistol. "We serve Lady Ru, hag."

"O-of course, Lady Ru, right," Metou said nervously, trying to resist a scowl, vaguely threatened and wanting to just shake that man off. The man grunted and turned away, uninterested in provoking the old tengu further, and Metou could keep speaking to Gin. "Anyway, I'll leave the task of giving Shima a noble face to someone younger and more charismatic than I, but if they're not still there I think we can ask a guard or someone else where they went. I'm pretty sure I know where Lady Ru is, does that seem like a good idea to you, Gin?"
I vote casual. I like writing a huge amount every now and then but I'd like the option to write something shorter.
My laptop charger broke, so until the new one comes in the mail I'll only be able to post from the campus library, which I can do later today.

Technically speaking I could plug a keyboard into my phone but reading and writing a lot on this thing would be a pain.
