The Story So Far

Millennia ago, a creature from another reality somehow crossed over into our own. It’s mere presence shifted the balance of nature and created situations where men and women gained extra-ordinary abilities; today we know them as heroes and villains. A cadre of these people bound themselves together as one unit and cast the creature, whom they had simply named The Destroyer, into a world of forever and nothingness. Over the many centuries, The Destroyer has appeared once again into the world, intent on ending all life on our planet. With the minions he creates through Earth’s human’s. the Destroyer constantly tries to end all things and always his mere presence forces the people of Earth to rise from the ordinary and become the extraordinary.

The most recent of these events happened during the apex of WW2. The Destroyer and his army of altered humans became apparent in the midst of the Nazi war effort. It was up to a select few heroes from around the world to put an end to the horror and banish the monster back to where he came.

Now 100 years on, the Destroyer; now under the guise of business mogul Alan Morra, has been systematically releasing his new monsters (mostly created by modern technology) out into the world in his attempt to destroy mankind. Young government agent Diana Stahl, a descendant of one of the 20th century heroes, sees fit to use a secret government creation so called the Shadow Network to gather a handful of young meta-humans and recruit them to stop Morra and his evil. Each with their own unique origin, skill set and personality, the men and women of the Shadow Network aren’t exactly a team but when Earth is in peril, they will join together and save it from the horrific darkness…or at least they will try....

The Short of It
Maybe it was a science experiment gone wrong. Maybe you’re a god on Earth masquerading as a human? Or maybe your just some guy in a weird outfit looking to make a difference. Whatever the case, you’re either a meta or regular but talented human that has been recruited by the Shadow Network to fight the evil of Alan Morra aka The Destroyer.

Despite appearances this isn’t a superhero rp. Imagine if you will, Heroes, these are people with amazing abilities and responsibilities who are also trying to live a regular life. So you can take this rp as a slice of life more than a hero rp but there will be battles and the like.

Now the reason this is called Comics rather than team or whatever is because although all characters are part of the Shadow Network, they are not a team. We will each be telling our own individual stories whilst also interweaving them with the stories of the other characters. Relationships and friendships are encouraged but like I said, not everything is about punching or blowing stuff up. Characters will be or appear to be (depending on your character) in their early twenties and as stated above based in and around the fictional Empire State University in New York.

3. Of course, no over powered characters. Whatever your character is, they’re just starting out so they aren’t all complete badasses right now.
4. We're in the casual section, so no one-liners. At least one paragraph of detailed content per post.
5. Respect each other and treat each other as equals, any disagreements take to PM.
6. If there is a problem between players the GM's will help solve it so that we can do what we came to do - have fun and write something riveting.
6. Cussing, gore and romance is fine, but if you're getting into serious territory, please fade to black or move to pm.
7. If you don't post within a week we'll check in with you and if we don't get a response we'll remove your character from play in a fitting manner.

The fight had been going on for just over an hour. The already dirty mat had been further sullied by the blood of all the competitors of the battle royal. Only two of the fighters remained on their feet, the bulky Polish factory worker people call Tank and a smaller man, Ripper they called him in whispers, to his face they addressed him by his Christian name, Ronan Duffy. His slim, well-muscled body was littered with battle scars from blades, bullets and broken bones. It only took a second for Ronan to switch positions and make his way behind Tank. He was faster than most fighters, he had trained with the best. His strong wrapped around Tank’s throat as he pulled him down to the ground. A smiled enveloped Ronan’s bloodied face. His icy blue eyes widened as he felt the larynx of his opponent crushing underneath the weight of his choke hold. Death was the only true end to a fight.

WINNER: RONAN DUFFY

Getting to his feet and dropping the body like a sack of shit, Ronan climbed out of the cage. It was time to go. Sirens rang out in the distance. The bloodthirsty fans dispersed out from the underground bunker and headed off in their own directions. Ronan took his time, washing his body with a sponge and putting his fine suit back on. He had to look his best for Sunday dinner with his family. He took one last look at the bloodied corpse in the middle cage before departing up the stairs and out of the front door of the comic book store front. He got into his car and drove off, a low winter sun hung in the brightening sky.

Personality and History:
Born one of eight children, you would think that Ronan would need to fight for the attention of his parents. This however was not the case. From an early age it became obvious that Ronan only ever needed himself, everyone else was just an accessory. He seemed numb and cold even to his siblings. His youngest sister once accurately characterised him thusly:

”You can look into Ronan’s eyes and he’ll greet you with the most charming smile but behind his gaze, he simply isn’t there. He’s ice, cold and transparent”

It seemed that Ronan could not find the joy in anything until he started becoming immersed in the destructive world that his family had built over a 100 years. Through his initiation into the criminal fraternity at the age of fourteen, Ronan began to display hidden aspects of his personality. He is menacing, unpredictable, dangerous, wicked, dastardly, somewhat unreasonable and cocky to a fault. The most joy to ever come out of Ronan was when he was beating someone with his fists. This elation led him into the underground fight scene, where he still thrives to this day. The glow of violence has completely seduced him and he often uses it as a release for any pent up emotions. Ronan considers fighting fun, and tries to get as much fun as he can, even taking deadly risks to drag out fights for as long as possible. He limits his skills in order to make fights last longer, using. He constantly smiles when engaging in a fight with a formidable opponent which can be somewhat unnerving. He firmly believes the winner is only determined when the other dies. On the flip side of his violent tendencies and general disregard for any life not his own, Ronan is incredibly intelligent and far more cerebral than he is given credit for. It was his idea to build windows and doors that had weaknesses in order to rob a place with ease and it was his idea to plant members of their family overseas in order to build new business.

Despite his general indifference to the world around him, Ronan is by far one of the more loyal members of the family. Willing to do anything for those he loves, Ronan will kill, maim, torment and open a vain for his parents and his siblings and anyone that has the fortune (or misfortune) of finding themselves inside his black heart. He hides himself behind a mask of sanity, appearing calm and jovial to everyone around him but once that bloodlust sets in and that mask slips off, the ripper is ready to play….

Extra:
- Ronan is an avid martial artist and over the years has been earning many styles. He is not a master of any but he tends to amalgamise them all when fighting
- He has a husky called Scooby
- The finger gun (as seen above) is a taunt he uses often when in a fight or preparing to kill someone

A neo noir crime thriller set in a fictionalised version of Dublin, Northern Ireland; Black Dove is the story of the Duffy Crime family and those touched by their thirst for power and control. A mixture of crime, drama, romance, comedy and surrealism are all ever present in this dark reflection of Dublin. Taking inspiration from epic crime thrillers like The Wire and The Soprano’s (with just a little hint of Sin City in there) our goal in this rp is to build a universe, more so through the development of characters, relationships and interesting interlocking storylines, rather than “Hey, I’m a gangster, I’m gonna shoot you”.

The Story So Far:


”The Original Black Dove gang”

It all began with a handshake. Brendan Duffy has just returned home from WW1 and with what little money he had managed to save, he opened up his own carpentry store. Business was slow to start, he needed money to keep himself afloat. With that in mind, he came into contact with Domnhall Donnelly, a local crime figure and with a handshake, Donnelly handed Brendan a hefty some of money to keep his business going. To make sure Brendan kept up his end of the bargain, Domnhall sent his daughter, Faye to keep an eye on him. Of course, like any good old fashioned gangster story, they fell in love. Faye had a wicked mind and seeing Brendan’s soft nature, she convinced him to murder her father; which he promptly did so with a saw. Through this act, Faye gained control of her father’s empire and became known throughout the Irish underworld as the Black Dove. She and Brendan married and had a large family, settling down at a farm just outside of the growing city.


The Carpenter and The Dove: Brendan and Faye meet for the first time and thus begins a dynasty

Over the intervening decades, the Duffy Crime Family grew with each generation bringing new skills and new horrors to the table. The Black Dove became the symbol of their family as well as the logo for their family business: Duffy Windows and Doors Manufacture. Now in the 21st Century, the Duffy’s still rule over Dublin with an iron fist. An extended network of family members and associates placed in the most pivotal and most powerful positions in the city keep the family on the throne but that doesn’t stop enemies trying to take the crown.

November 1st 2014, a Black Dove lands in the centre of the road, a low winter sun rises and an Irish Crime Story begins…..
