What's different between that and magic?
Many confuse it with magic, but it a twisted cousin of it, one may say. I don’t know much as it is an ancient practice, but from what I understand and what Sreig has gathered. It allows one to achieve great feats and grant their desires with high costs. Apparently it is around us all the time, flowing though us and has pockets of great density in some areas or people.

It’s tied to our life. Any other attempt to remove it beside accepting the challenge would mean death. And a permanent one.

Could you explain a bit about the situation?
Acnologia, the Old King of Uvanis, has been alive and is trying to kill off all members of his kind and grow more power by consuming other universes. He consumed all of his people except Lunar, Sreig, Zecratis, and Astra. And as such marked them as not only a challenge, but to death as well. Since Erza and I are incarnations of them, we are marked as well. Though the mark saps our life force from us the longer we wait, when we do face him, the damage we do to him is much higher and we are more resilient to his attacks as well. Think of the mark as an even playing field. Either way, if he dies, we will be free from the curse upon us and many lives will be saved...
