My city is built on a mid-mountain sea. Also, I will most likely relocate to the highlands.
Alright, let me get this right. Your city is a hundred square kilometres, and looking at that map, the sea is about the same, right? Feck it. This is a fantasy RP first and foremost, to Hell with Earth logic. You have yourself a mountain sea, my friend... not sure I'd trust the safety of a naturally built tomb myself, but hey ho! As for its placement, I've edited the Highlands region (top right corner) to include a new little "water feature". Its location makes sense, with regards to the island's geography, so that's the best I can do for you. Lemme know what you think:
As for the rest of you, I'm loving the early apps. I hope the sheets are okay, I'm afraid they were a bit of a rush job. I'll iron them out to include any missing details once I've got the next lot of the RP made.
Humans. Disgusting. Perverted. Oppressive. Magnus chewed quietly on a salad-serving of 3 Tier anti-depressants; a medical must for the Mesocricetian with a few identity issues. His pupils, camouflaged by the overall blackness of his eyes, darted from one "colleague" to the next, all the while the human Vice Admiral carried on with his dramatics. A brief thought entered Magnus' mind to kill them all - he could do it! It'd be easy. Chomp on the grizzled little man next to him, who was doing everything he could to avoid the Mesocricetian's gaze, bound over the table and chew a guard to death. He'd get shot a bit, sure, but he'd have time to grab a - The thought was struck from his mind like a rogue card from a deck. Courtesy of his beloved Behavioural Inhibitor, and the defacto cause of his current nightmare. It was a tough life to live; being born to be something, only to have some piece of finite alien technology cancel out any instinctual endeavours at every turn. After his rampage on Meso, Magnus had come to understand the dreaded "10%" - the Mesocricetians who refused the behavioural inhibitors, and lived on the far fringes of society under careful observation from Meso's security forces. Sure their lifespan was about 5 years or so, owing to the high fatality rate of a never ending death match, but at least they were free. How he lon- His mind ran blank again, and he silently cursed the void in his thoughts. During his reverie, it appeared that the old bastard had departed. Magnus hoped his words weren't of importance, and were only confined to drama, because he'd taken none of it in. There was talk of terrorists, and a planet he hadn't heard of - that was when he zoned out. What else was there to know? He and his "colleagues" would be thrown into some asshat of a situation, with gun in hand, and told to kill or be killed. Magnus had no trouble with killing, in fact, one of the guards' pistol holsters was undone. If Magnus could get to him, in one fluid movement, he co- Nothing. "Urgh," Magnus grunted, unaware he had made his displeasure audible. He quickly worked his blunder into an intelligent statement. "Magnus Blackclaw. Systems Engineer, specialising in robotics; I'm the mindless drone that programmes and maintains a dockyard's conveyor and automated systems. That's all you get to know. Now when do we get this shit over with?"
Is it alright if I can claim the River Basin. I'll probably go with an Orc, goblin(unless they Are the same thing) or an orc, dwarf race.
Fill out a sheet, and I'll take that as a down payment of your commitment. Then I'll reserve it for you.
Sounds good! I'd love to get involved in this! Lone Wanderer, if you're going for Dwarves, I was thinking of making a race of Dwarves with slight physical differences but significantly different cultural differences to your own. That is, if this picks up, and you wouldn't mind. Basically the smaller state next to your (I'm assuming much larger) nation. The overall idea being that the two nations distrust one another. This sound good, bad, ugly, or...?
This sounds like a great idea. We can split the mountains, and it will certainly make it more interesting for our two nations. Intrigue abound. I'm fine with this.
I can split regions, if players wish to share them. That's not a problem. I went with 11 because it seemed a fair number, and I didn't want for there to be too many NPC city states.
Okay, here's the Alpha Version of the Entry Sheet. Any following versions will be based on this, requiring early birds to only fill out any additional fields I may add. Any sheets submitted as I develop the OOC will be considered as "reservations", with regards to the regions.
Oshmar City State Entry Sheet
City State
Oshmar Region: 1 - 11 Name of Region: Name of City: Can be same as region's name. Visual Description of City: This is more for the benefit of other players, who may wish to visit in one form or another. City Population: City's Defences: Include any walls, strongpoints, keeps and castles it may have. This applies to any fortifications that guard the approaches to the city. Visual description for each defence of note may be handy for other players, so provide one if you can. Also include any siege engines that may be attached to the defences (think Minas Tirith from the cinematic lotr) City's Food Stores: If surrounded and cut off, how long could your city hold out in a siege? Say so in months. Obviously food stores fluctuate, but this figure will just be a general estimate. City's Garrison Capacity: How many soldiers are needed to man your city's defences so that they're at full capacity? City's Main Industries: What are your city's famed exports and produces? This can be anything, from metal craft to herbal medicine and scholars. City's Government: A brief description of how your city's government works. List of Towns: List any towns that occupy your region, outside the safety of the city. Descriptions and populations are welcome, however to reduce workload, I will simply allow names.
Race
Race Name: Race Leader: Name, rank/title Race Leader Physical Description: Race Leader Significant Traits: This is for when your race leader is a special being. For example, if you had a nation of wasp-like drones, your leader may be the Queen who upon dying, would render the rest of her kind mindless. Race Physical Description:
  • Male Appearances: : (If applicable)
  • Female Appearances: (If applicable)
Use of Magic: (Not required, if your race does not use it, then remove this section. Describe what your race does with it and how widespread it is amongst the population. Life Span: How long do they live for on average?
  • Male Lifespan: (If applicable)
  • Female Lifespan: (If applicable)
Reproduction Rate: Are they like rabbits? Or are they like the rare Snow Leopard? Describe how quickly their population is able to replicate. Include how long it takes for them to reach “adulthood” in Earth years. I.e, a human would be16-18 years of age to be considered an adult. Society: What kind of society do they operate? History: Can be brief, or long. The more the better. I've left a lot of Oshmar's history vague, to allow for some creative licence. Religion: Describe the type of Gods/God your people worship. Significant Racial Traits: List here anything you feel should be mentioned. For example, if your race cannot swim, or if they require a certain diet to thrive. Seafaring Capabilities: Is your race experienced at sea? Do they use ships, or do they swim? Other Information: Anything that has been missed, and you feel needs a mention.
Military
Types of Soldiers: List and describe the common types of soldiers used by your city-state. An example would be something like this:
  • Berserkers: Berserkers are drawn from the primitive tribes dwelling on the city's outskirts. They are a ferocious bunch, with deep beliefs in ancient warrior customs. Typically they wear no armour, and run into battle naked, however their flesh is covered in coloured war markings from head to toe. They use large swords and axes, and hurl themselves at their victims in a rage.
Call to Arms Capacity: If your nation was to declare a state of emergency, calling up every able bodied individual capable of serving in the ranks, how many soldiers would you expect to have access to? When deciding this figure, remember that someone has to remain at home to plough the fields, fire the forges and run things whilst they are away. Battle Doctrine: How do your armies fight? Give us a short introduction to your nation's combat tactics. Naval Presence: How many warships does your nation possess? And what are their functions? Example:
  • 39 Galleys, armed with balistas and capable of carrying a hundred men. They form the navy's core in battle.
  • 92 skiffs, lightly armed but quick. Used for harrying manouvers and to screen the advance of the galleys.
Glad to see things are already forming up between players, and that plans are already being made. @UltikanRe, sorry to break your balls, but Elves are gonna be a no-go in this RP, owing to the lore. I will however, permit Half-Elves, mixed with any race you may desire. The same applies to Orcs. Half-race variants are cool, but full blooded are not - they'd of gone with Gardul's sons when they fled Oshmar. Anyways, I'll get the species and nation sheets up before I go to sleep tonight. Gimme a few mins to dream one up. On the topic of magic, I'm going to limit it to D&D level. That is to say, fireballs, entrapment spells, augmentations, minor summoning etc but no doomsday spells. I'll elaborate on this a little more when the OOC develops into its finished form.
Character name: Magnus Blackclaw Criminal?: Yes Convicted for: Seventythree counts of murder in the first degree, possession of illegal weapons, property damage in excess of 8.9 billion, conspiracy to cause mass fatalities, facilitating the production of improvised explosives, eight counts of murdering a member of the security services, grand theft auto, resisting arrest and two hundred counts of assault with intent to cause serious injury or death. Species: Mesocricetian. Gender: Male Sexual orientation: Straight. Age: 15, 35 in human years. Appearance: Magnus is a long haired Mesocricetian, meaning that the fur covering his body is roughly ten inches long, and tapers off into a 'cape' near his hindquarters. The colour of his fur can best be described as 'charcoal', with vertical stripes of white, black and grey going from one end of his body to the other. He has a nasty scar behind his left ear, which is coloured white (whilst the other is black), and new fur has yet to grow over it. His eyes, customary of his people, are black. Magnus' pointed nose is slightly crooked, and missing thin strips of fur across its length, whilst his incisors are yellow and nicked in places. Height: On four feet, roughly 5ft. On two feet, roughly 7ft. Weight: 321 ibs. Apparel: Magnus wears an improved version of the Mesocricetian Quadrupedal Ballistic Combat Armour (QBCA). QBCA is made from square fragments of plasma treated steel titanium bound together by a leathery synthetic anti-ballistic material known as targon, and forms a jumpsuit that protects a Mesocricetian's vital organs. The visual effect is not dissimilar to a turtle's shell, and so many refer to the QBCA affectionately as T-shell. As Mesocricetian soldiers move on all fours, and stand only to aim their weapons, the shoulder, back and arm areas of the QBCA are extra thick. The chest and stomach regions, therefore, are more susceptible to missiles. However, this allows Mesocricetians to maintain their dexterity. Magnus' version is made from the latest lightweight anti-ballistic materials, allowing him to move quickly and easily whilst still benefiting from the effectiveness of QBCA affords its user. Additionally, Magnus wears a Panzer Helm III, or PZH III. The Panzer Helm, designed by Earth's military, was developed especially for Mesocricetian infantry. Essentially, it is a thickly armoured helmet, covering the face, ears and neck with blast-resistant alloys. Moreover, each Panzer Helm comes fully equipped with 'Optical Assist' technology, which works to provide the otherwise near-blind Mesocricetians with almost 20/20 quality vision. Optical Assist also features night-vision and thermal imaging modes. Weapons: The Mount Sinai Munitions Corp MS-32K, Meso Variant. Smaller than the original, and lacking some of the range, the MS32KM is designed for the smaller arm-length of the Mesocricetians, making for a more comfortable grip. Equipment: Energy powered arc welder, capable of cutting through several types of materials. Personal starfighter: N/A Skills: Engineer, Systems Technician Weaknesses: Extremely susceptible to rapid temperature changes. Powers: Behavioural Inhibitor Off Switch - Magnus' Behavioural Inhibitor can be controlled by the team's designated leader. Deactivating it will instantly revert Magnus to his native mental state, and he will attack everyone. Whilst this may seem rather pointless, and potentially dangerous, a Mesocricetian's natural high aggression and resourcefulness can be an ace card when situations go to shit. Personality: Magnus is very quiet, and barely speaks. Although he does grunt a lot, in fact, grunting is all he seems to do. He will often zone out if someone talks to him about anything other than the mission, displaying his obvious disinterest in what they may have to say. Biography: Magnus lived an ordinary life as a dockyard systems engineer, grinding away 9 til 5 every day without much purpose - like many of his kind. One fateful morning during a routine logistical systems check, he suffered a serious head injury when a crane lost its grip on a container, and released it on top of him. Consigned to a coma for four weeks, Magnus' damaged behavioural inhibitor went undetected by hospital staff. Upon waking, he thanked those who had helped him back to health, promptly left the hospital, murdered a weapon's store owner, took a stash of guns and waged a one man war against his own peoples. Six days of death and destruction later, and Magnus was finally apprehended. Hundreds had been killed or wounded in a rampage that had torn half a city to pieces. Although originally sentenced to death, the Meso Supreme Court took mercy on him, noting that his actions were committed out of "diminished responsibility" due to his damaged behavioural inhibitor. His resourcefulness and ruthless efficiency during his killing spree grabbed the attention of a local human admiral, who had caught news of the tragedy. Morbidly impressed that a single Mesocricetian with no military background could do so much damage to a civilised and otherwise passive society, the admiral flagged Magnus' name to his superiors. Consequently, Magnus' impending life sentence with no chance of parole was automatically replaced by an ultimatum of joining Oblivion Squad. Not wanting to rot in a cell for the rest of his life, Magnus accepted.
Loving the interest. Is Ultkana a bot? He/she seems like a bot to me. In any case i'll have a nation and race sheet up by tonight, so's you can all start planning your possible participation. I think we'll go medieval fantasy, though I'm still working out what kind of magic may be in use.
My slight bio oversight has been corrected. Sorry for the hiccup. Looking forward to getting this going.
