and by this weekend i meant...this weekend! i'm really sorry about that
Nuri caught 'Chatters' in her hand and destroyed him, finally putting the poor skeleton to rest. It was important to not let evil sentience like that fester. Nuri regarded Lilliane. "Mmm. No such thing as consecrated ground, though it is a helpful myth. A place is only as holy as the worship that goes with in. Without people, churches are just empty boxes." She gestured around. "Thus, a skeleton problem." The paladin said. At least, this was her belief. Nuri wasn't sure how much she bought into 'holy ground' and 'holy relics', not really. Absolutely, she could appreciate the artisanship, but she doubted the Goddesses really cared about mortal trinkets. That wasn't what mattered.

The short people went ahead to scout, and, from what she heard, were immediately discovered by goblins. Or at least, they discovered each other at the same time. Now the squishier members of the group were upfront. Nuri still wasn't sure exactly what the point of his strategy was. Coins were supposed to go around the flanks, or at least report back with numbers. So far they only wanted to simply walk forward until they encounter enemies. Nuri could do that. Anyone could do that.

"Goblins." Nuri held the handle of her sword in one hand, and the blade of it in the other as she jogged quickly forward to meet the borderline sapient life-forms in combat. Goblins were more like a dangerous pest than a race of people. Though sometimes Nuri wondered if one could be raised as a pet, or even a companion. The thought was both amusing and heart warming. Unfortunately, no such peace-makings would be avaliable today, the goblins were hungry.

Nuri advanced past her teammates. They were either light or slower than she was. Casting or preparing to cast ranged water spells. Corinne began to dance in and out of their range. This meant it was Nuri's time to step up and be the frontline her teammates could operate around. All of their support would be for nought if the goblins simply swarmed them all at once.

"All right, let's dance, you little bastards." The knight approached them all, levelling her sword at the nearest goblins defensively. When one neared too close, she sliced off its arm with a swift strike. At the same time, she took a step forward, reversing her grip and forcing yet more of the goblings back. Sweeping her sword at their neck height, she intended to ward them off and attact their attention, focusing on parrying their strikes and letting hampered blows glance off her armor.

"Ghuh...huff...huff...guh...oh man..." De'kae N'nm the druid huffed and puffed up the massive stairs that lead up to Lord Ahrimar's devil fortress. The heat was really blazing down on the cold-blooded creature who was used to more temperate climes. Her reptilian fingers wrapped tightly around her staff of branches and leaves, and she pulled herself up each step with less and less enthusiasm each time. A limp had made itself more and more pronounced, her right leg weaker than her left leg.

"This is it...I...I'm done for..." De'kae fell to her booted knees. "Owly...Owly...come closer." The owl that had nested itself in her large brimmed black hat fluttered dispassionately down onto the steps infront of her.

"Tell my mother...I fucking hate her." De'kae requested. The owl gave her a look.

"What? Oh, right." De'kae reached into her satchel and produced a rubbery clear 'canteen' with a top made of vegetation. Like some kind of hollowed out, clear fruit, full of glittering water. She put it too her non-existent lips and used her long tongue to guide the water down her throat. Wiping her mouth, her big yellow eyes considered the bird before her. Cool water flowed through her body and cooled down her veins and blood.

"Owly, do you think this is a good idea?" She asked the bird. "I mean, I don't like this invasive species of humans as much as the next girl but..." She squinted up at the fortress with her dual pair of eyelids. "This place is not friendly. My bad leg is killing me. I should have asked a giant eagle for help." De'kae N'nm yawned.

She sat on the staircase, pocketing the waterplant into her satchel. "I'm just gonna take a break here for a lil bit." She crawled up a few steps, putting in just a little more effort in order to get herself under the shade of one of many spiked perimeter walls. "Just a little breakey break."

"...Just a little- Zzzznnnn...zznnn..." Her head and eyelids drooped, the lizardfolk falling fast asleep from her trek into Ahriman's kingdom and up his many steps. Snoring softly she leaned up against the wall, her branch-like staff laid across her lap. . Rolling his eyes, the owl flew back up into of her hat and began picking at his feathers with his beak.

Mirage launched into a story.

...Oh, God.

...He's seriously opening up right now...

This is great and all, but the power of friendship can only take a girl so far! I literally have none of my strength! It's like asking a mathmetician to do math while taking away her ability to read! I mean, am I being too hard on myself? I don't think I am. I really am useless right now. I'm still hungry- and, slow, and I've never been that smart. I mean I guess my grades could be better but- shoot, I even put off my studying to practice more fighting! Gaaah! He's still going! Okay okay, shut up. Just listen.

One thing that was made apparent- he was really good at telling stories. This was pretty clearly his life, and Elliot was a very nice American name. But she kind of imagined he would have a tougher name? Maybe that's why he went by Mirage.

It was also a sad story. By the end of it she found herself feeling very bad for Mirage. He had lost most of his family, and had done whatever it took to protect what he had left. He had become a gladiator, or a mercenary, because the world he lived in was unfair. If Sakura had lost her little brother, she'd probably go crazy. Even thinking that terrible thought made her uncomfortable. Sakura would do anything to protect her family, too, but she'd been lucky enough that she hadn't ever had to do so. Only now that she was in this new World of Light did she worry for their safety. Now she wondered if she would ever see them again.

Okay, no, no no no. Mirage would feel really bad if he saw you getting worse, Sakura. How about you just appreciate how he's trying to make you feel good?

When his story was over, Sakura still wasn't convinced of her own usefulness in the Maw. Of course, Sakura believed that people could always improve themselves, especially if they have someone backing them up. It was how she'd gotten this far in life.

"Well...thanks for telling me all that, Mister Mirage." She said, awkwardly. "Elliot sounds like a pretty brave guy."

Bella re-affirmed her desire to stay too, dragging her slightly out from under the kimono with her wicked cool bone mouth tail. Sakura smiled, blushing from the earnestness of it all. "Alright, geez. Enough already." She rubbed the back of her head. They had outsmarted Sakura, managing to make her feel better against her wishes. "I'm with you guys, really, I am."

Minus one, the others returned. Sakura hadn't known Glenn all that well...but she wondered if something might have gone differently if Mirage or Bella were there to help. Best not make it all about herself though. Sakura's covered her mouth and considered the loss. Poor Mister Link looked really banged up about it. At this point, all she could do was push it out of her mind for now. If there was one thing the Maw had taught her, it was how to bottle up her emotions. Releasing them later would be a top priority. Some unlucky inanimate object was going to get the hell beaten out of it once she got out of here. Maybe an old abandoned car. That always seemed to make Ryu-san feel better. Just find a car and pulverize it.

Sakura looked up at Peach, figuratively and literally. Tears began to well in Sakura's eyes as she accepted, much to her surprise, a common hand mirror.

"Wooow..! T-thanks!" She said, drumming up some enthusiasm. She turned the mirror and looked inside it.

"Huh wow I actually am pretty cute." Sakura murmered, wiping her face off with her chubby hands. "Great! Thank you, Peach-san. A mirror. I'll be sure to..." Trailing off, she rose to her feet.

"...Does it do anything?" Flipping it upside down, she examined it closely. Was it really a secret weakness, like Mister Bowser had said earlier?

In her mind's eyes, she conjured an image of herself dramatically and defiantly angling the mirror at the Lady before she was promply punted like a football into a big pit full of hungry alligators. A suitably stupid way to die for one Kasugano Sakura.

They were all headed for the stage. Link still looked terrible, but Sakura had no words that could possibly soothe him. She looked to Mister Geralt, like the wise old man could use his tiny child voice to grumble out some more words of wisdom of the strength to carry on. But, honestly, Link looked like the type of person who's instinct was to push forward, rather than to give up. Sakura hoped there would be some time to heal after all this was over.

King Bowser was talking about this mirror like it really was the secret trick to victory. Reluctantly, she played with the mirror, looking for the button or switch or magic rune that would suck the Lady into it and banish her to the mirror world. Or the magic glass that would reflect her spell right back at her and turn her into a clay doll. Or the magic word that would unleash the friendly Oni trapped within who would wreak his righteous vengeance. Or maybe it merely a stupid mirror that would only get her squashed flat. Sakura was reluctant to simply walk up to the Lady, point this thing at her, and hope for the best...but at this point it was the only thing she could offer to the rest of the team. So she'd just have to do it.
believe it or not, i'm halfway through a killer croc fight

but this bastard is tough and i'm having to think about how batgirl could beat him without getting her organs bitten off
@Yam I Am hooray!

I almost gave her shape shifting but, there's enough tanks in the party already. she's a support role and well, i figured she can get pretty creative with magical plants and animals anyway.
@Yam I Am

I forgot to mention you so i'm doing it just in case- i put a cs submission on page 5, right beneath Slithers
