So this is the barest of interest checks. I just want to know is anybody interested in doing a YGO with a more grounded setting and high quality writing. I haven't really even considered if how the dueling would fit in, but it's an idea I've always wanted to try. Any interest?

Awesome! I don't really watch the anime hugely either, all though I have been recently.

The only decent way I could think of to incorporate dueling is using something like Dueling Network to decide the outcome of the duel, and roleplaying it post-game. Only problem with that is conflicting schedules and keeping an accurate log of moves.

I was thinking of it as something of a standard RP with the dueling simply serving as the sort of combat to it. And yes I had considered using DN

We could alternatively do it so that instead of it being an adventure it's a straight up competition RP.

Well I'm on DN, so that works for me.

It's probably the easiest to sign up to too, although personally I like Devpro.
