YamiCuoreLaroux ...who?

I can't believe I'm doing this...

Hi there! I have had this idea for a little while now, and I guess I started getting curious about whether or not this was a story idea that people would actually find interesting in any way. I have no clue exactly what will happen now that it's out there, and it's definitely not finished concept-wise, but we'll see where this goes, eh?

Here's what I have:

In a fairytale-esque world, there is a legend of a town in which many nekomimi (cat-persons, essentially) live. In this town, collars are a very important symbol to the nekomimi, as they hold a certain significance pertaining to their relationships.

There are now humans living in this town as well. For some mysterious reason, upon entering, a magical jewel is generated for each human that enters the town. This jewel can come in a multitude of shapes and colors, and the size may vary slightly, though all of them are still fairly small (only a few centimeters in any direction - this is very important due to their function). When given to a nekomimi, this strange item can awaken inner powers and allow them to use magic. Using this, a human and a neko may become a powerful duo and maybe make even miracles happen, but beware! These jewels hold a powerful secret, one that can easily save or destroy a human life:
These jewels are the manifestation of a human's heart.
All of the emotions a human may feel connect to the power in these precious stones, and similarly, all the love a human feels becomes the magic energy that both protects the nekomimi in possession of it and gives them the option of protecting the human from whom the jewel was received from. The downside to this is that, should anything happen to that jewel, the crystallized heart of that human, the consequences will be devastating.
People don't necessarily die, but around 92% of the time, they do. Those who are lucky enough to survive would probably be better off dead, as either their ability to feel has been completely destroyed, leaving them as good as zombies, or they can only feel immense pain for their rest of their lives, which normally does not continue for long since their agony often drives them to find some way to end them. So, take care when giving away your heart, as a false love will cause only one's own painful demise.
The nekomimi have traditionally placed a great value on these jewels, as they symbolize the ultimate form of trust for humans, and those who accept the hearts are tied to the owners forever. Or at least until something happens to the jewels that carry them. To keep the jewels safe, it is common in their culture to have a collar crafted to hold them, and those who come to the town are highly encouraged to see the Heartcrafter to have them set into a collar. When a human and a neko decide to bond romantically, the human gives the collar to the neko, who proudly wears it as a symbol of trust and belonging. (It is a proposal of sorts, but the culture does not necessarily require a couple to get married after the gifting of the collar. That being said, it is not often encouraged to gift someone with a collar as a mere confession, since all kinds of things can go wrong, but nobody seriously cares enough about when you give your collar away. It's about equivalent to the world's most potentially dangerous pinky promise, that's all. Also, the neko does have the option of returning the collar if the relationship does not work out, but again, you don't want to give it to a neko if you can't see the relationship going anywhere, as the collar cannot be forcibly removed. The neko pretty much has complete control over what happens to your heart.)

So, will you take a chance and entrust your heart to someone?

Also, nekomimi do not traditionally use weapons. That would be a humans-only thing. Don't get upset, they still have all their cat-like features, including claws and teeth. AND they have MAGIC. I'm still worried about them being overpowered, though I hope that allowing the humans to choose their magic fixes that enough...

So, yeah, I guess we have a bit of a romance RP idea here. It probably needs work, but I'm open to suggestions.
Also, this would be the first roleplay I would ever start, so I would probably need a couple of co-GMs to help out, preferably at least one who has some experience as a GM.

I'm curious does the nekomimi die if the crystal heart on the collar breaks, or can they keep living without their human partner.

That's a good question and I'm glad you brought that up. I was thinking that they would survive, but they would probably experience some sort of dangerous effect depending on how strong the bond with their human has gotten since receiving the collar. I haven't quite decided exactly what happens yet, so if anyone has any ideas for that, I don't mind hearing them.

well I was thinking of making a male nekomimi that was really close to his female human partner and the break made him have nightmares every night and he doesn't trust humans anymore. so I was thinking more of mental effects other than physical.

I like that idea. It makes a lot of sense, actually.

yeah some could even have gone so crazy that they seemed almost more like mindless beasts than nekomimis

Interesting idea, but I do have a few questions.

When the human enters the town, a crystal is created, but what happens? Does it manifest and the human keeps it until he falls in love, or is it given to 'the one' upon creation and they have to find each other?

You mentioned weapons, defense, and magic. Are we defending this town from something or someone? Do we create our own enemies(or evil) to defeat? I can't imagine something happening to a precious jewel in the humdrum of everyday life around town.

Collars. Do humans enter town with one, or are they purchased or already owned by the neko and humans just attach their jewels to it? From what you wrote it seems like collars are more of an engagement gift from a human to a neko.

Thanks for the questions.

The crystals stay in the possession of the human until they give it to someone.

The town will likely be attacked a few times, and I was planning on placing the town in a forest where potential dangers might hide. I invite others to feel free to add in a few enemies of their own, but I don't want it getting too out of hand, so this will probably have to be discussed a bit more.

Collars are actually crafted in town, and humans are encouraged to go get one upon arrival to keep the jewels in. In theory, one could just ignore this and walk around with the jewel somewhere else, but they can be broken fairly easily and the collars are constructed specifically to protect them. The humans are the ones who possess the collars until they give them to someone.

I guess it is kind of an engagement gift, essentially.

One potential problem is that if we are only controlling one human or one neko, the balance issue of not enough of one side or the other unless we have npc partners but that might get boring. I would rather be playing with someone else rather than an npc of my own creation.

I am interested in this and I'm not trying to poke holes in your ideas. I'm just voicing my concerns.

Nah, don't worry, that's fine. I need people to catch these things sometimes.

As for characters, I think I'll let people control a maximum of two unless it seems reasonable to change this. I will be making some decisions about my own characters based on what other people do with their CSs to hopefully try to help balance things out as well, but if it's not enough, I'll come up with something else to fix the problem. And yeah, I agree that just interacting with only your own characters would probably get boring, so I'll do what I can to keep that from happening.

As far as the neko features,

Are they humans who have cat ears/tails/features?

Do they have furry/padded hands and feet(with claws, as mentioned, or just long sharp nails)

or full furry?

Edit: It is incredibly hard to find cat girl or furry pictures which are appropriate and non-sexual. I'm rather proud of myself ^^

I was thinking about the first one, but I would probably accept the second one as well (the link isn't exactly working here, though, so if that could be fixed first, please).

I don't have a lot of experience with furries yet, so I'm very hesitant about doing anything with them just yet. I would have to learn more before working with them.

I'm also really impressed with how you did with the pictures. I really wish it were not so hard to find pictures like that, but I suppose that there is only so much to be done at present...

I only read half of this but it sound very much like this manga a read not to long ago.

I think it might have been an Yaoi (Or it was a little fan serves put in)
It was about two twins humans. They got sent to another world turning them into nekos. However you find out that the twins were just one powerful neko who master sent him to the human world splitting his soul into half.

It had all that jewel as kind of heart things. God I wish I remembered the name of the manga it was pretty good and still on going.

Anyways I will read the rest later to see if I want to join or not.
