Oh that isn't so bad. I never liked competitive play for those games.

Oh shucks, broski. Yea I don't think the games after Medieval 2 were all that great. They were still fun but once I crushed the campaigns once, I was done. Rome II, however. I still haven't finished. It is a wacky game for me. I enjoy the graphical improvements, Roman setting, and all that experience and legacy crap for your legions and agents. But the AI can be laughable at times. There were a few moments were they actually made a good move on the campaign map. For example, I was crushing some Celtic losers just North of the Greek States and seeing that one or two countries couldn't take me on at a time, they had four of them join up to form a confederacy. Using the two fresh countries, the confederacy actually clawed back a bit, but unfortunately my conquest of Libya finished and I pulled a general out which gave me the proper manpower to counter the Celtic push.

Also, I do appreciate soldiers being stuck to armies but I dunno. It could have been done better.

The AI in every one of the games is a little bit bonkers. Especially for sieging. You ask your troops to climb up the siege tower and all they can do is hump the tower's wheels until they figure out they're supposed to climb it, then they get to the top and completely forget how to open the platform. I just imagine I'm the commander of a bunch of nincompoops, and everything just seems acceptable after that. The enemy AI does have its moments. I don't know what happened, but in a campaign, Hungary was very clever with assassins. They had so many spies and assassins sneaking around, they somehow killed off the entire Russian royal family. Whether this was luck or actually a good decision on the AI's part I have no idea.

RIP Gamespy

And EA was going to transfer RA3 and Battlefront to different servers but they fucked up, and now those games are dead.

I never did play much online via Gamespy, but it's sad to see support for old games die. I wish companies like this would open source the software needed to run the server and issue one last patch that lets games connect to a non-Gamespy server, to let people play as long as they desire.
