PRIMAL
The Plot
Have you ever had that fantasy where you image yourself becoming part animal? Perhaps you don cute ears or a long beautiful tail? Well, these dreams may be closer to reality than you last recall. After dark clouds blotted out the sun and a chill spread over the planet, black spores started to fall like snow. These spores made people lose their sanity and those who came in contact with the spores for long periods of time had even worse side effects.Their bodies changed in grotesque ways, making them seem like they were part animal. Their brains were weakened into a lesser animalistic state. Scientists called this "PRIMAL Syndrome" in which human beings would have fits of dipping into a more primal state with their bodies morphing into a mixture of horrific creatures.
Paranoia quickly spread, as people couldn't be sure of who were afflicted by the PRIMAL Syndrome and who were normal human beings. There was only a few things that everyone knew for sure about the Syndrome as issued by the government and frequently told to the public:
- All of those who are afflicted by the syndrome have some form of trigger to cause them to change (usually an event or some sort of emotion)
- Sudden bouts of feeling ill can be a sign of someone afflicted by the PRIMAL Syndrome and they should be immediately quarantined until the illness has passed.
- Those who are in a transformed state need to be eradicated. Those seen keeping PRIMAL individuals will be arrested and the infected will be taken care of in the process.
The government created a group of soldiers called the ARSENAL who are constantly on patrol in nearly every city. Their mission is to kill any PRIMAL that they see, but occasionally they are told to capture any "odd cases" of the PRIMAL syndrome that are different from what they know.
For the PRIMAL, their goal is to survive. Some may indulge in their new form and savor the power they have, while others strive to get a cure.
For humans, you are the neutral party and can choose sides. You could help the ARSENAL by ratting out PRIMALs, or you could help the PRIMALs by keeping them hidden. There is also many underground organizations who specialize in researching PRIMALs in order to gain a cure.
In this RP, you can choose between three factions to play in: The PRIMAL, the humans, and the ARSENAL.
The Setting
Essentially, this RP will take place mainly in a broken cityscape known as Jalum. Living is difficult since the spores fell and most people fight for survival. Many people gather in the city of Jalum for a mixture of reasons. For the PRIMAL, there is an underground rebellion group that is working on a cure, as well as picking off the ARSENAL. For humans, they are fairly safe as long as they follow the rules of the ARSENAL and don't make themselves look suspicious. There is also a large influx in employment as Jalum is also one of the three major ARSENAL hubs. Humans can get work as merchants, city workers, ARSENAL soldiers, as well as a massive number of other options. For the ARSENAL, Jalum is PRIMAL bait. It allows them to hunt the PRIMAL who try to enter the city looking for some kind of cure. Also, Jalum's ARSENAL headquarters is well know for its research on "soldier improvement programs" as well as work on strange specimens of PRIMALs.
Other Choices
Each faction has its perks and setbacks, so decide carefully.
The PRIMAL
As a PRIMAL you can pick what animal your DNA has been partially morphed into. The animal you choose gives you two bonus perks based on the animal itself. (Ex. A bat might give you amazing navigation in the dark or a bear might give you powerful strength.) One of these perks is always active while you are in a human form, while the second becomes active when you go PRIMAL (EX. As a bear PRIMAL, you have abnormal strength as a human. As a PRIMAL you may have extreme speed or a gaze that strikes fear into your foes and stops them in their tracks.) As a PRIMAL, you also have a trigger. This is the thing that causes your DNA flaws to flair and bring out your PRIMAL form. Triggers can be unreasonable or random, but every PRIMAL has a trigger. In your PRIMAL form. as stated before, your secondary perk activates. This secondary perk doesn't always have to benefit the PRIMAL. It could send them into a blind fury where they attack anything and everything or they could get a perk that causes them to harm themselves.
Perks of being a PRIMAL:
- A tough body that can handle a lot of damage
- Gained bonuses from your DNA
- You are part animal
- Some underground organizations will assist you
Setbacks of being a PRIMAL:
- You are always hunted by the ARSENAL
- Your trigger always has a chance of you being found out in public.
- You lose a bit of your sanity while in a PRIMAL state.
- People may be suspicious of you should you act strangely in public.
Humans
Humans are the middle man. As a human, you have a few options as to the life you may live. You could be a member of the government and work with the ARSENAL. You could also be a PRIMAL sympathizer and try to help the PRIMAL. You could also just be a civilian who doesn't like or fears the PRIMAL and wants them to be gone. Telling apart human from PRIMAL is very difficult for humans, though, so you may be on edge because you don't know if the person right next to you could be a PRIMAL or not. Also, as a human, you can choose from a wide array of jobs to make a living. Your placement on the scale of power may also sway the scales between the PRIMAL and the ARSENAL. If anyone can sway the final outcome of this battle, it's the humans.
Perks of being human:
- The wide array of career opportunities can not only better your life, but can assist with how much influence you have over the PRIMAL or ARSENAL.
- You are the ones who mainly decides who is winning and who is losing in the battle against PRIMAL and ARSENAL
- Once you get on the good side of another faction, you have a higher chance of going under their radar and doing things behind their back.
Setbacks of being human:
- You are constantly suspicious of those around you
- You have to bend to the rules of the ARSENAL to avoid suspicion.
The ARSENAL
Vicious and focused on their goal, the ARSENAL will do whatever it takes to make sure that the PRIMAL are eliminated. As an ARSENAL member, you have access to the "soldier improvement program" which allows you to give your body a certain alteration or two to make you better in the field. Most members are only allowed one alteration. Some, though, go far over the top and allow their bodies to be consumed by the changes. Alterations can cause warps in the brain, but for the most part they won't affect the soldier. It depends on how great of an alteration and how many alterations a person gets. ARSENAL soldiers are also very skilled at finding PRIMAL and are equipped with a mixture of tools to rat out PRIMAL. However, some over suspicious ARSENAL members can kill innocent people solely on suspicion. You also act as the central government in this world. You make the rules and everyone must abide by them. If they don't, they are either killed or arrested. In a world as shattered as this, no one can or would dare to try and stand up to you. At least, not right to your face.
Perks of being an ARSENAL soldier:
- Access to the SIP (Soldier Improvement Program)
- Control over the workings of Jalum
- Extremely skilled in finding PRIMAL
Setbacks of being an ARSENAL soldier:
- You can go overboard with the SIP and damage your body.
- Your use of power could cause more underground uprisings
- You are hasty and may sometimes kill without investigating someone first. Your judgement in dire situations is key.
