Astro City is a major metropolitan area much like NYC or LA, a shining metropolis on a hill where super-heroes patrol the skies. It's home to dozens of superhumans both hero and criminal alike. Since the days of World War II heroes have operated within the city who's criminal population was sadly one of the higher of the major cities in America. With heroes and super-teams like Samaritan and the Honor Guard, the city always survives even the more dire situations. With younger heroes and other outcasts like Juice and Palmetto (Roach) being drafted into the Honor Guard the Irregulars became more and more irregular and their team grew apart. Now in 2014, five years after the last team disbanded, a new cast of Irregulars have hit the Astro City scene and informally banded together to stop a mutual threat. An enemy who is possessing seemingly random villains within the city to do his dirty work... who is Mr. Madness and what does he have in store for the newest heroes of Astro City? That's where YOU come in....

Players in this RP will create a new hero to operate in Astro City as villains begin getting possessed by Mister Madness who for the time being is an unknown enemy to us all and a new face in Astro City himself. But what exactly are the mind controlled villains doing for him? And what happened to the superman of Astro City, Samaritan?

Powers: Peak physical and mental conditioning. Genus level intellect. Skilled hand to hand combatant. Various hi tech gadgets to supplement his combat skills. Skilled in the use of stealth. Access to a vast fortune.

Weaknesses: Normal human weaknesses. Relative inexperience at the hero game. Cocky.

Personality: cynical, brave, analytical

Enemies: The Reaper, highly trained mercenary who specialises in hand to hand combat, full black combat gear with a skull-like mask and a hi-tech hand scythe.

Dr Whitechapel, misongystic-knife nut-surgeon who dabbles in the occult, well dressed, black tophat, black great cloak, sideburns.

Appearance:

similar to the above except for a few key differences. The head piece doesn't have the chin flaps, instead having two red pieces around the eyes that wrap around the head to form a winged head dress, kind of like a mix of hawk-woman's helmet and batman's ears. The inside of the cape is red. The colours of the chest piece are reversed, with a large, flaming red bird logo, a mix of the DCAU nightwing emblem and Jean Greys Phoenix. The belt would be black and red, with several utility compartments.

BRIEF Bio: Chris Roberts was born to inherit a heroic legacy, he just never knew it.

The last Phoenix first fought the good fight during the second world war. The result of multi millionaire Jonathan Valiant self funded experimentation in creating a superhuman weapon to fight crime. Jonathan's first and only test subject was himself, as he deemed the process too dangerous to put anyone else through it. The Phoenix spent several decades fighting crime, but slowly came to realise that he was not immortal, and needed to find a successor. He, and his partner Ambrose Richards, The Highwayman, found a like minded woman, Mary Roberts, an ex-military woman. Together they created Chris, a genetically engineered peak human. Chris was supposed to take over his fathers role in crime fighting, but Jonathan disappeared before he was born. Ambrose took over Jonathans company, Valiant enterprises, and he and Mary decided it wasn't right for them to force Christopher into a life of their choosing. Mary raised him in New York, with Ambrose becoming his Godfather and part time guardian. Although they didn't tell him of his one time destiny they both trained him in the skills he would need if he chose to become a hero in secret. shortly before his sixteenth birthday Christopher stepped in to stop a gang from mugging an elderly woman. Chris won the fight, but was severely injured. After this it was decided that Mary and Ambrose should reveal his lineage to him, and offer him the chance to become a hero. He accepted, taking up the mantle of the Phoenix, with Ambrose's help. Chris has faced off with two of his most terrible foes already, the deadly Reaper, an insane French mercenary who is obsessed with the idea that it his divine mission to bring death to those who's time has come, and the brilliant Dr Whitechapel, who was at one time called Jack the Ripper. Whitechapel, though not presenting the same physical threat as The Reaper, is a much more dangerous foe as he was the head geneticist who worked on Chris in the womb, so knows the Phoenix's true identity.

The Dr has recently proven just how dangerous he can be when he murdered Christophers mother. Chris and Ambrose have received word that Whitechapel has fled to Astro city, so the Phoenix has chased him there.

Notes: Ambrose and Chris have spread the word that the Phoenix is unkillable, and that every time he falls he will simply rise again. A valuable misdirection when dealing with the criminal underbelly, this also leads some to believe that Chris is the same man who originally wore the mantle of the Phoenix.

Name: Thomas Neil Wright (goes by Neil)
Alias: Spaceman
Age: physically 32
Powers: Energy manipulation (basically TK), including energy blasts, shields, and flight, has a signature purple glow whenever he uses it
Weaknesses: His spacesuit is not merely for thematic effect; it also contains the often uncontrollable cosmic energy emulating from his body when he uses his powers. He can be outside of this suit for only a few hours a day.
Personality: Bold, grim, uncompromising
Enemies:

• No-Body, aka Shurukk the Corruptor: an incorporeal being, able to possess willing hosts and grant cosmic powers. No-Body is the current incarnation of the cosmic being know as The Incarnate. At the behest of an intergalactic group known only as The Continuum, The Incarnate has judged the Earth, determining that human civilization must be destroyed due to the danger it presents to the wider universe. After the failure of his last incarnation,
  Kerresh the Devastator, The Incarnate decided to destroy the Earth more subtlety this time.


• Caveman - The "Caveman" was cursed thousands of years ago with eternal life. However, he still ages, so in order to keep his youth, he must drain the life-essence from victims. He has set his sights on the over-flowing energies of Spaceman in order to sate his appetite. He large, over 7 feet tall, and almost 500 lbs. Often his looks draw comparisons to cavemen, thus earning him his moniker.

Hero Experience: 8 months, six of which as a part of the Ohio-based Queen City Kings
Appearance: Wears a sleek space suit
BRIEF Bio:
Neil was inspired to become an astronaut by his hometown hero and namesake, Neil Armstrong, as well as his grandfather, the superhero Astro Naut, who was Astro City's savior and namesake. During a space walk on what would become his first and last mission, Neil became unattached from the shuttle. Slowly, he drifted out of the reach of any rescue. He drifted for what seemed to him an eternity, orbiting the big blue globe that had once been his world.

He should have died, but was saved by an incorporeal entity, later known as No-Body. The being promised to help Neil return to Earth safely, and entered Neil's body, granting the astronaut the power to shape forces of cosmic energy. but it had an ulterior motive. No-Body was on a mission to destroy the Earth from the inside out through corruption and manipulation.

Once back on Earth, Neil became aware of No-body's true intentions. Using the powers that the being had granted him, Neil was able to exorcise No-Body, and thought that he had killed it. Neil took up the name Spaceman, and began fighting crime as a part of the Ohio-based Queen City Kings. After six months, his teammates encouraged the fledgling superhero to travel to Astro City, where his powers would be better served.

Alias: Kumari
Age: 24
Powers: Empathy is her only non-human power. She can absorb, exude, and influence other people's emotions. Her other skills include sambo and some mixed martial arts, as well as the skilled use of a pair of kukri.
Weaknesses: She is human, with all the squishy weaknesses that implies. Her empathy doesn't stop working, and she has to concentrate to a certain degree to keep from being mentally overwhelmed by large crowds. She has to make skin contact with someone to truly direct her powers- otherwise they will come out like a cloud, with her at the center.
Personality: Devika is intelligent, socially inept (due to self-imposed isolation) and eccentric
Enemies: Heat/fire creation/ red and orange costume w/flames
Mimic/ body snatching + control / gunmetal gray and neon blue, lycra unitard w 80's legwarmers

BRIEF Bio: Devika was adopted as a baby by her two lawyer parents. Her empathy was discovered early in her childhood, and started learning to control her power from the time she was five. Her parents instilled her a strong sense of right and wrong. When she went to college, she discovered plenty of free time as her studies were fairly easy. The state of the city was like a rotting tooth. It looked fine, even shiny on the outside, but underneath it was just getting more disgusting. She took it upon herself to do something, going to all sorts of martial arts courses.
Devika, as the hero Kumari, started cleaning up the Miami streets, gaining strength, fame, and enemies. After graduation, she left for Astro City, as Miami had quieted during her time as Kumari.

Notes: Devika's suit has Kevlar weave and blade tangling mesh beneath lightweight armor plating. Her mask has perscription lenses set into it so things aren't blurry on the battlefield.

Powers: can turn his skin into a durable gold steel that also enhances his strength; also possesses a Midas Touch where he can coat another person or object in the same gold steel as long as he's touching it [wears off 30 seconds after breaking contact]

Weaknesses: heavy and a little slower than average superhumans

Personality: stubborn, headstrong, loyal

Enemies: Boomerang/can return from any knockback attacks/red and green suit, the Metropolitan/none/red clad anarchist

BRIEF Bio: Evan lived in a smaller rural town in California growing up. He wasn't doing anything with his life until he gained powers from a magical coin he had purchased for his coin collecting mother. After gaining his powers he got in shape quick after years of letting go after playing baseball in high school. After three months he quit his day job at Burger Queen and came up with the alias Midas since he could touch things and turn them to gold, moving to Astro City in hopes of becoming a member of the Honor Guard one day. Since moving to Astro City and operating as Midas, Evan has had run ins with both Boomerang and the Metropolitan while living in an apartment in Keifer Square. His address being 281 apartment 4, in the Marz apartment complex.

Notes: The closest thing Midas comes to is Colossus from the X-Men franchise. Ya know, if Colossus could touch stuff and also make it metal like himself... LOL. However Evan doesn't grow a foot in height when transforming, I always thought that was weird about Colossus. His address is a nod to Green Lantern's from Earth being in sector 2814 and my favorite writer who introduced my favorite Lantern [Kyle Rayner], Ron Marz.

Powers: To manipulate and generate scorching sand
Weaknesses: Water can cause his sand to turn to mud, rendering his power practically useless. Also, general human weaknesses.
Personality: Good-natured, snarky (comments occasionally reference Australian culture, which may confuse the other heroes), rebellious
Enemies:
Oceanmaster - manipulates salt water - costume resembles a diving suit of old.
Drop Bear - seemingly teleports, reappears above his victim, dropping on top of them and devouring them - looks something like this:

BRIEF Bio: Finn was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia, to his soldier father and farmer mother. As he grew, he helped his mother around the outback farm, and barely saw anything of his father, as he was frequently away serving the ADF. After graduating from high school, Finn did a brief two year stint in the army, where he learned to fight and think on his feet. While doing a bushwalk during a training exercise, he stumbled and fell into a pool of quicksand, which, unbeknownst to him, had been cursed by the aborigines that had previously owned the land. Successfully getting himself out of the quicksand, Finn discovered that he had gained the power to manipulate and generate scorching hot sand. Deciding to leave the army, Finn had a suit tailored and he soon made himself known as the superhero... Sandstorm.
Notes:
- His rebellious nature caused him to get into a bit of trouble in the army, much to the disappointment of his father. This strained relationship, along with his newfound superhero career, eventually caused Finn to leave for Astro City. He soon found, however, that his enemy, Drop Bear, followed him there, and that another villain, Oceanmaster, who would prove to be quite possibly his arch-nemesis, was awaiting his arrival
- Has experience in mixed martial arts and self defence due to his time in the ADF, and can therefore hold his own in a fight quite well

That's five in the can, who's next? Need at least seven to ten players....

If I HAVE to pick between this game and GLC I'm gonna go ahead and stick with this one. GLC has barely had activity in the OOC and only a couple of approved CS's have been reposted for some reason. IDK if it's the site going ape-shit the last few days, but it kinda kills the excitement...

Guys, you've been patient the last few days with both this game and GLC and I thank you all for it. Currently I'm working on the revised player/character lists for both this game and GLC in the YJ2020 titanpad. Afterwards I'll get the opening IC posts up, I've got 2 days off and I wanna finish getting these two RP's rolling....
