Background Info
It's the year 2058 on planet Earth. A virtual reality game created by the genius game maker Satoshi Kondo called Ultimate Horizon is taking the world by storm due to it's completely lifelike, interactive, and expansive spacefaring experience. It takes place in a virtual galaxy of Newhome 7 and your actions can potentially alter the course of it's history. The most powerful clans, some made up of thousands of players, are able to take control over entire sections of space and engage is massive fleet on fleet battles to decide who controls what world and section, some of these battles lasting so long and large scale that actual news stations report on it. People who are very good at the game can even get sponsorships and fight against other ships in tournaments for real cash prizes. Your free starting ship, often far worse then the ones you can buy later on, can re-spawn infinitely, but any other ships you buy in the game are gone forever if destroyed. This takes resources from you and gives it to the person who bested you, converting it into in game currency that would otherwise take actual money to acquire. This is how some people can get rich quickly, especially if they can obliterate an opposing fleet of expensive ships. However, few people are good enough to make much at all or are even lucky if they don't loose a lot. Those without the backing of at least one of the so called Elite 12 clans often have to engage in smaller skirmishes, trying their best not to be obliterated the entire time and hiding out in areas of space where they cannot be attacked by other players. It's indeed a highly competitive environment where the strong rule over the weak and can make good money doing so.
Every player gets a free starting fighter ship but upon starting a clan that clan gets one "free" command ship, which are otherwise often very expensive and can turn the tide of battle in the clans favor. The more powerful clans may have dozens of said command ships available, some requiring multiple players to be stationed on it for it to work, while the weakest ones only need a single pilot. Command ships often have at least one turret, often a lot more, that additional players can pilot to give it additional firepower. To start a clan, however, requires a large fee that would actually more then cover the cost of the command ship. Unless someone was lucky enough to get a free clan voucher, creating a clan is only for the best players.
So how does one get into this virtual galaxy? For those not rich enough to buy one of their own, a common alternative is to rent out machines at an arcade. The arcade machine looks like a cockpit which has a tinted windshield that comes down to conceal you inside. You insert a memory card that can also be used to automatically charge your account for the duration of your stay, wear a special helmet, and then grip the handle on both sides of you. At that point the machine transfers all of your senses into the game, causing your actual body to remain motionless. Don't worry, as the windshield protects you from people breaking in to steal your stuff and the game automatically shuts off in the event of an outside emergency. Your character in the game is a perfect representation of your face and body type and is wearing a futuristic flight suit that you can customize much like you can customize your ship.
This game is purely designed for space/atmosphere combat in fighters/bombers and command ships, so whenever you land on the ground or in a station it's primarily to shop for new parts and ammo for your ship such as rocket launchers and even buy entirely new/better ships, or use your down time for meetings with other players. There can be gun fights but only due to ship on ship boarding during space battles. Environments are completely destructible besides areas called Safe Space, which has both structures and ships invincible in that area. This is where your ship automatically warps too when you log out so your ship is not destroyed while you're off the controls, as time keeps moving in game wither you're there or not. You can also use this to shop in case other shops were destroyed in battle. You can then warp to certain areas to get back into the actual game. You cannot warp when enemy ships are nearby. The sections you can warp too are pretty numerous so it would be difficult for campers to cover every spawn point in the galaxy. They can limit your options, however.
Plot
The small town of Freebird Ohio is about to witness the humble beginnings of a little clan called Blue Starlight, a clan that nobody would expect to amount to anything. The clan creator, a 16 year old boy named William Little, got lucky for once and found a rare free clan voucher code in his box of crunchy mix cereal. The only problem was that he was not the most popular student in school by any means and had nobody in his friend list in the game so had nobody to invite into the clan. What good is a clan with only one person in it? Well, he'd at least get a free command ship out of the whole ordeal. He didn't know much about command ships due to not ever expecting to be in one. He saw that one of his options only needed a single person to fly, which he planned on flying solo anyways. He chose that one upon cashing in his code into the machine, only to find out later on in a message board that the chosen command ship, the Free Flyer XS, is widely considered only chosen by noobs and loners. It also has the unflattering nickname of Noob Flyer among the game's fan base. In this game all purchases are final so that's what he's stuck with until he can afford a new one, which due to his income was out of the question. While the stats are bad and nobody put much effort into figuring out how to make it work properly, it actually has large amounts of customability and a special hidden ability or two.
For one reason or another people end up deciding to join his clan after seeing him around for a bit in the arcade. Their reasons may vary and some might have conflicting personalities that gets them into fights from time to time, but somehow they will all find a way to work together and become a clan formidable enough to take on the Elite 12 and (virtually) live to tell about it. Some people might meet online before doing so in person, but the plot will also take place outside of the game so they should have a way of meeting up with everyone that way as well or be left out. Most of the clan members are not very popular or rich. They're the type of people most other elite members in the game wouldn't bat an eyelash for. There will be plenty of plot outside of the game dealing with our problems and getting to know each other better, but also a healthy dose of plot in the game as well as we work together and use strategy to overcome our obstacles. We will not always win. This roleplay is meant to be realistic, so we will suffer our share of butt kickings both in game and out over the course of the roleplay. Yet still we must press on, helping each other pull ourselves up by our bootstraps to try and improve ourselves, getting to be better people by the time the roleplay ends both in game and out.
Rules
1. Standard forum rules apply.
2. Nothing R rated. Keep that to PMs.
3. If you don't post while we're waiting for you for more then three days, warn us first. After three days I can control your character enough to move the plot forward. If you're gone too many times in a row I can give control over your character to someone else in the roleplay.
4. Post a good five sentences and more if you're able to. I don't like one liners.
5. No multiple characters as part of the clan unless otherwise stated (such as we need a position to fill), but you can control NPC characters.
6. Your character cannot be super rich or super talented, at least at the start, and most certainly not without flaws. If they're rich, at the very least there should be a reason why they cannot contribute much money to our cause. Maybe their parents don't want them wasting money on this.
7. I can create more rules as needed. What I say goes but I'll try to be fair. Added rules will go below.
8. Make sure to let everyone else have a chance to post in between your posts if they are involved in your situation. That means if you are talking to two other characters then both of them need to post before you post again, for example. If the other characters are not involved with you at the moment you don't have to wait, but if they want you to then it would be nice if you did so they aren't left completely behind.
