"To be honest, I don't know. I mean, for all we know, we could be the enemy here. We could be the bad guys. I never even thought to figure out why we're in this stupid war-" Someone came through the cabin doors. I shut up, not knowing if it would be the Angry Man or not. It wasn't. It was the woman with the glasses that spoke on the stage yesterday.

"Good morning, troops." She smiled. "I've come to inform you that some of you will be sent on a mission." She took out a paper with a list of names on it. "The names I read off will report to the building you arrived at yesterday. She cleared her throat, pushing her glasses up and began to speak. "Christy Pearson, Luke Burns, Daisy Morris, Penelope Write, and Samuel Pace." She finished, smiling at us. "Gather your things, lets get going." She walked off.

I stared at the woman in the doorway, not sure if I had heard her correctly. A mission... Now? We had just arrived, this was ridiculous. With an annoyed sigh, I looked around me, taking my orders, 'Gather your things'... Standing up, I pulled my dirty jacket from the end of my bed and slouched into it. "Right" I said and turned to face Daisy. "Ready to get out of here?"

"Hey, anything is better than staying in this dump. Let's roll." I grabbed my hoodie and slid it on, zipping it up and slipping into my combat boots. I flipped and searched through the pockets of the pants I'd worn here yesterday and grabbed my inhaler from it. Quickly, I slid it into my pocket so no one could see what it was. I didn't need anyone worrying about me or treating me differently if they thought something was wrong with me. "

I smiled and led the way to the door of our cabin. Opening it up, I let Daisy through first before following her out. The hall was only around the corner, so would take less than five minutes to get there. "A mission huh? That was fast." I looked at Daisy as I spoke, sliding my hands in to my pockets.

"Mhmm. They're probably just trying to get rid of some of us and clear out the camp so it isn't so crowded." I pulled my hood over my head. It was a little chilly out. "I hope this mission will be easy. I've only ever been on one before and that was a dummy mission. I have no clue what to expect."

"Neither do I. Not in this aspect." I said as we turned the corner of the street that the hall was on. "They don't know any of us, what strengths we have. They've probably just randomly selected us out. They probably don't know what to expect with us, but I doubt that'll stop them."

"They just want us out of here. That's fine with me. I don't want to be here anyway." I said with a shrug. Walking through the doors, there was a woman dressed in a navy blue suit, directing us to a small conference room. One there, we were told to take a seat at the long rectangular table that was in the middle of the room.

"Good Morning, Soldiers." General Jones, the man who spoke to all of us yesterday stood at the front of the room. "Listen up and listen good. You all will be going on a mission. We're sending you as back up... Or more of a rescue team. It'll be hot, so you'll have all the supplies. You are to find the soldiers we've got missing and bring them home. Sources tell us they'd been hiding in a cave, somewhere deep in the tropics, and close to enemy territory. When you leave this room, a helicopter will be waiting for you with all the proper gear you'll need for this mission. Stay safe and stay alive. Good luck." He dismissed us.

I listened intently. The tropics. Okay, that's one place away from here, but I just had one issue. "Sir." I stood up, stopping General Jones from leaving. He turned to look at me with a raised eyebrow. "Uh, General Jones, sir. If this is a rescue mission, how do we return home once we have found the soldiers? Sir..." I continued suddenly nervous under his gaze.

General Jones stared at Sam, getting close to his face and raising a brow. "Excuse me?" He acted like he'd just been insulted. "Nah, I'm just messing with ya, kid." He slapped Sam on the back, chuckling in the process. "We'll send a helicopter out to get you. You'll have walkie talkies so you can inform us if you've found the soldiers." He shoved a hand in his pocket. "Does that answer your question, son?"

I cleared my throat and laughed nervously. "Uh, yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir, thanks." I said with a small smile before quickly returning to my seat. General Jones laughed again and shook his head. "Now, I'm counting on you kids, so you come back with my men and you'll be rewarded. Every single one of you. Hear me?" We all nodded as he waited for a response. "Good, now get out of here and get going. I'll see you soon."

I got up, hiding the smirk that was on my face from General Jones messing with Sam. He seemed to be the only guy around here who didn't have a stick up his butt. Following-the others out, a helicopter was waiting in front of the building like Jones had said. "Come, let's go troops!" A man with a heavy, camouflage vest motioned to us. I followed the others on the helicopter and was handing a big backpack full of everything we needed. Once everyone was on, we could take off.

Clambering into the helicopter behind Daisy, I dumped my backpack in front of me as I sat down, clicking my seatbelt in place. The man by the door, counted heads and nodded to the driver before sliding the helicopter door shut. After he shut the door he turned to us and motioned for us to put on the headsets that had been allocated to us. "This flight will take about an hour to two hours tops. Hope no one needs to pee." He said once we all had them on, and then gave us a thumbs up.

I slipped my seat belt on and slid the headphone over my ears. Once he gave us a thumbs up, the helicopter began to rise until we were all the way in the sky. I didn't like flying much, but boy was it a view. I looked out the window to see the gray, dirty camp below us. I sure was glad to be out of that place. I knew once we really started making distance, the view would be beautiful.

Hopefully we'd never have to go back to that place, I knew we would, after all, the orders we'd just been given were quite clear, but I still hoped. "Ever been in a helicopter before?" I said leaning closer to Daisy so she could hear me.

"Nope. I've been in airplanes, but never a helicopter." I smiled at him. "How about you, have you been in one of these bad boys before?" I asked curiously, leaning just a little closer so I could hear him when he replied to me.

I laughed. "Nope, the only flying I've ever done was on my way out of town to training camp, when I left home. Before being drafted, I'd never been out of my town, let alone any states." I told her, adjusting the headset over my ears.

"Really? Oh my gosh." I couldn't believe he'd never left the state before. "I've been a few places. Mostly to visit my grandparents, but that's about it." I smiled. "You're not afraid of flying?" I asked. I knew some people that always flew but they were petrified to be in a plane.

I shook my head slowly. "Not really. I mean I'd never had experience flying before then so I hardly knew what it involved. I quite like it actually." I explained to her. "I'd always wanted to leave home though, but my dad didn't want me to so I didn't. I stayed."

"Ohhhh, ok." I said, nodding to his last comment. Most parents want their kids to travel, but his dad wanted him home. That was odd, but every parent was different. I got comfortable in my seat and placed my hands in my lap. "We get to go somewhere warm. This should be interesting. I've never been to a tropical forest before. Think it looks like it does on tv?"

I smiled. "Ugh, god I hope so." I said folding my arms across my chest. "I could use some sun, I'm about as pale as an Irishman." I joked. "I think it's about time we stepped on sand rather than mud and dirt for a change."
