In 2430, the world isn't quite as hospitable as the stories of old tell. Those who hold power are the ones who lurk in the shadows, deep in the slimy shadows of the city, New Providence. They range from thugs who would slash their victims with a shard of broken glass to killers who have been training their entire lives, and use their deadly talents as a means of living. The government only serves as a function of the corruption invading every pore of the city. One man, Edward Bradley, has declared himself king of this city and promised, shining teeth and all, to purge the city of the assassins and start anew. He claims to have hired dozens, if not hundreds, of agents to infiltrate the murky depths of the city and drag the true assassins to the guillotine. The question is - how can you survive in a world where your own friend might just be your greatest enemy?

We currently have two slots open at the RP thread here. If more than two people apply, I will decide based on character sheets rather than first come, first served. In any event, don't be afraid to ask any questions or check things out!

I am interested. Here's a CS for ya :). This was my first character I've ever played online, and that was WAAAAY back when AOL was pay by the hour and I played in Red Dragon Inn Room #3. An altered history, of course. Well, here goes.

Name: Akara Shi'Nise
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Appearance: 5'4", 140 pounds of lean muscle. Black hair kept clean and well maintained, pulled into a ponytail at the top of the back of the head, the ponytail reaches the middle of his back. If his hair is ever let down, the hair will reach to the small of his back. Jade green eyes. A pair of pearl earrings in the shape of rain drops in his ears. Appears to be Japanese-American, but has more Japanese in him than Caucasian. Slightly deeper tan than your typical Asian. A tattoo that covers his entire back of a Gold Dragon, the tail sweeping across his right and resting at his navel, the head resting on his left shoulder, and the wings wrapping themselves around his left side and right shoulder. Numerous battle scars, but they are all light because he takes care of each wound medicinally. Dresses for whatever each mission requires.
Personality: Extremely disciplined. Everyone gets verbal respect, even if they've shown they don't deserve it. He is slow to acquire friends, but when he does, they become like part of his family, and you don't mess with his family. The same goes for enemies, slow to acquire them, but once you're an enemy, your story has a definite ending. Either acquaintance or friend, if you show aptitude or skill in something, he assumes you don't need help unless you ask. He feels that guns are the weapons of the weak, and that getting up close and personal is the only good way of winning a fight. He has a twisted sense of honor, not fully the code of the Bushido (Samurai) and not fully the ways of the Ninja, but somewhere in between. When he gives his word, he will do most anything to keep it, so he gives it rarely.
General History: Akara comes from a long line of Ninja. The community he grew up in was his family, so he doesn't know who his actual mother and father are, but everyone in the community was instilled with a sense of family for everyone else. Since he could walk, he's been trained in martial arts, learning how to evade, and learning the weapons that would define his craft. At the age of 3, he started learning with wooden weapons, but by the age of 5, he knew nothing but live ones. His life in the community was not one of diversion, but a hard one of trickery, deception, and combat.
Akara received his first mission at the ripe age of 9, where he was given the task of going to a private school, immersing himself in that lifestyle, and then ensuring the 'accidental' death of the head coach of the school. He achieved this by joining the swim team. During a private lesson, he helped the coach slip, hit his head on the handrails going into the water, and then helping him drown while he was stunned by the impact to his head.
Since that mission, his life has been about perfecting the art of assassination. In his 22 years of assassination, he has taken out 718 targets successfully. Not a single one has been missed, but not all of his missions went perfectly. There's been up's and down's in his craft as his pursuit continues.
Most recently, about 4 years ago, this 'King' rooted out and destroyed Akara's community. Akara was out on a mission at the time. When he came home, he found the place looted and burned to the ground. The women in his family had been dragged into the streets and raped then murdered and burned. His family was all but gone. Sure, there were a few out on missions, and they would return to the same scene. But Akara was not going to sit by and wait for it to be his turn to be murdered. If his family wanted to find him, they knew how to contact him.
So, he looted what he could and headed to the city that housed this 'King'. This is where he has been for the past three years.
Weapons Used: From the top down. Two spike-shuriken holding his ponytail up. His pearl earrings are personal flash smoke bombs. Two tantos (Japanese knives) in a shoulder holster under each arm. A pair of razor sharp katanas strapped to his back. Two throwing knives strapped to his wrists. Four 6-point shuriken hidden in his belt. Two combat knives strapped one to each thigh. Two throwing knives hidden in each soft boot (yes, that's 4).
Strengths: Melee combat. Stealth would be a close second. A proper assassin makes no noise. He doesn't do well with improvised weapons and absolutely refuses to pick up a gun other than to carry it for a teammate.
Weaknesses: He has a major disdain for ranged weapons, other than thrown weapons like daggers or shuriken. So, if you catch him from afar, then you've got him at a major disadvantage. His other major flaw is his loyalty to his family. He will attempt to move the heavens and earth to ensure the safety and well-being of his family.
Loyalties: First and foremost, his family (remember, friends become family). Secondly, his job. Thirdly, his employer. If you're not in these categories, there are no loyalties gained nor given.

Strengths: Close combat and chaos.
Weaknesses: Mental instability is Lhorne’s primary weakness. In combat, long distance, patient hunting games, and subtlety are all effective tactics.

Loyalties: Mixed intentions towards Mari Coldwell, a commercial power supporting King. The military still has distant draws, and several brass feel favorably to their old comrade now out in the cold.

Background:

Margaret Gunn is a result of a girl, orphaned at an early age. No one in the world to care for her, nor did she care for another. She was raised in numerous orphanages and group homes throughout her entire childhood. One of these in particular had quite an extensive file on Margaret.. The sisters at Saving Grace home for girls described her as "a hard case, with little hope of ever gaining any normality in life" and as "a loner". Her behavior during her early years was antisocial and stand offish, and was entirely pragmatic. Shortly after she became violent and malicious towards others, staff and ward alike. She caused great mental and emotional strain, as well as bodily harm to the other girls and several of the sisters that kept her ward. It was apparent to them that she was a bad seed, and there was nothing that was going to change that. She became highly manipulative and intimidated everyone. Sister Agnes Mary was quoted as saying that "her very presence in the room could send shivers down your neck" and also that "it would be in your best interests to avoid making eye contact"

Psychological Evaluation:

Emotionally Detached, Margaret has been found as being cold and unpredictable. She shows signs of delusion, and also suffers from Manic Bipolar disorder with extreme mood differentiation. She is highly manipulative, and is considered to be very intelligent, thus making her a threat to others in her acquaintance. She has no concept of remorse for her actions,nor shows any signs of sympathy in regards to the well being of others.

It wasn't long before the sisters had made the decision that her behavior could not, and would not be tolerated any longer. Just shy of turning sixteen, the sisters turned her over to the military. A recruiter named Sgt. D. C. Beckett came to Saving Grace home for girls and her care was left in his hands. It wasn't long before she landed a position in a general infantry platoon, where she seemed to excel. It was even noted that she was a model grunt. She breezed through training and she gained rank in great stride. Her behavior on base was not exactly of merit, and she was cited numerous infractions. These infractions were looked over by her performance in the field, and she soon went on to more pertinent training such as advanced tactics training, as well as interrogation training and the art of espionage.
As her training continued she began to flourish into a regular war machine. She was an exceptional soldier, elite in all aspects, though her methods were sometimes questionable and were described as being extreme. She worked best alone, or in small squads, and wasn't known to be incapable of completing any task given. She was perhaps most affective in the field of interrogation. Again, her methods were not exactly common, but were highly effective.

Weapons Used: Blunt weapons are favored for close combat, whether a staff or truncheon withmercury sealed in a vaccuum tube in the middle to give the weapon a little extra force, and mid-range combat rifles
Strengths: Rigorous and methodical preparation, fanatical dedication, ambushes and subtlety
Weaknesses: Strong temper, his faith is a lever for manipulation, and he isn’t actually skilled in unarmed hand to hand combat or long range sniping.
Loyalties (if any): The Church, and especially the Order of the Wheel
