Edo (Tokyo), Capital of the Shogunate-Controlled Japan


Introduction (If you're clueless, here's something for ya to read!) -
This is the land of the Samurai these days. Japan has become such a different place since the Amanto (Aliens) landed. They're strange creatures - anthro-animals, humanoid variations, or just outright weird looking fellows! The invasion was generations ago now, and any public outrage at the invaders has died down by now. There are still Joui (Anti-Foreigner) Factions that battle against the Amanto and the corrupt Bakufu (Government) who let them settle in the country. Samurai have since become a second-class due to their fierce and relentless manner of fighting Amanto back during open war - even with their superior technology, Amanto losses were massive. The Amanto wouldn't let it stand, and pressured the Bakufu into submission on the matter of Samurai power. Along with Samurai being casually trodden on, there was a ban on swords - only rebels and military forces carry them in the open now. Life in Edo is all very much the same as it has been in recent times. The Shinsengumi and Joui Factions frequently battle in the Edo streets to decide the fate of the country, Amanto carry out illegal dealings with government protection keeping humans out of their business. Life for humans isn't hell or anything, if anything the commoner's life is much better with all the new space-age technology around! But one thing is for sure: everything is one big puppet show for the very most elite Amanto factions.

Everything seems peaceful, or as peaceful as a country in civil war can get... What nobody realises is that the Kiheitai Joui Faction and the massive force of the Harusame Space Pirates have allied with each other. Nobody who knows can deny it - one of these days, Edo might burn at the hands of Takasugi Shinsuke. It's down to a new batch of Shinsengumi members to try and tip the balance of power...

Notes/Rules -
:: This RP is mainly based around the Shinsengumi, but characters from other factions are obviously allowed - you could also make your own faction if you wish too. Or you could be independent!
:: Gintama characters are playable, but as NPCs that anyone can take control of at any time (unless someone else is already using them).
:: It's an RP - general rules apply. No powergaming/autohitting, try and stay with the plot when it matters, and for the love of god if you're going to abandon this at least tell me so the IC can move on... ^_^
:: This isn't limited to just Earth and Samurai stuff. It's like Sengoku-Modern-SciFi, so there's a lot of room for creativity. Go nuts! Magic/powers ARE allowed, but to a limited extent, and are only supernatural in a few cases - most users of magic/powers are in fact using technology such as cybernetic implants or nanotechnology.

Kiheitai - These guys are out to destroy the world, or rather Edo & the Government believing it to be corrupt and evil. They have ties to the Harusame Space Pirates and the Mimawarigumi.
Shinsengumi (Special Military Police Force) - These guys protect Edo and the Shogunate from all threats, as small as petty criminals to as high-risk as Joushishi Terrorists.
Joushishi (Anti-Foreigner Factions) - The Katsura Faction is fairly peaceful when they can be, others aren't and usually resort to terrorism.

Appearance: Has brown hair and blue eyes, that look like they have a sort of HUD on the pupils. Wears Red armour with blue markings that shifts colour depending on what weapons are active; Red = Lethal weapons only, Red + Blue Markings = Lethal and non-lethal, Blue markings: Non-lethal only. With the exception of his head, has extensive cybernetic enhancements visible across his body when not wearing his armour. Wears a pair of black jeans when not in his armour.

Role: Criminal Hunter + Neutraliser
Weapons: 2X HF (High Frequency) Blades, 2X "Stinger" Stun rods, built into the forearms. Both deploy over the hand when activated. The latter is Non Lethal, the former lethal.
Equipment/Items: 3X Smoke Grenades, carried on a sash attached to his right hip. 2X Emergency repair nanomachines, attached to a sash on his left hip.
Backstory/Personality: A man who lost everything he held dear, and almost his life too, but gifted with an unbreakable resolve. He was effectively reborn when his damaged body was replaced with cybernetics. He became a powerful force to be reckoned with, able to run faster, jump higher, and strike more accurately than most. He primarily tracks down and brings in criminals on the run, but sometimes finds himself tasked to track down and neutralize an entire criminal organization. He's sharper than he looks though, able to put together the facts and figure out what doesn't add up. He's generally a calm, gentle guy when not on the job. He usually switches to a more focused mindset when he is on the job though.

What he DOESN'T want people knowing about him though, is that his mother was of the Yato tribe... And some of the less than ideal traits that stem from them passed on to him. Usually he's able to keep them in check, but drive him to the point of extremely angry, and that's when he succumbs to those traits. At that point, he generally doesn't care about holding back, hesitation, or trying to capture his enemies alive.

Backstory/Personality: Humaru was a simple kid, quiet, he would go through school quietly, getting straight A's and being head student every year, As the years went by, he got into smoking, he always has a cigarette in his mouth, besides when he sleeps. He heard about these 'Factions' fighting the police force to overcome them, He was asked to join by both sides, and refused both of them. He has had no friends or family since he was 6 years old, so he believed he could handle himself.

He had never peeped a word in school, or look up for that matter, and whenever he did, he had..a blank expression..He was chased around the school yard by girls that had a crush on him, he would always refuse their offers, almost heartlessly with a simple "No." and walking away. After the years, the Factions began to get more hype, people were joining both sides, and they were both creating Cyborgs to defend. Mindless Bloodshed was Humaru's reason for it, That is why he never joined either side. And he stays like that today.

Just a thing: Cronic's a rare case, there aren't cyborgs running around en masse in this little war between the Shinsengumi & Kiheitai ^_^ In fact, the vast majority of people (even the Amanto/Aliens) in the Gintama universe use melee weapons. Strange setup, but it's a nice balance to have. That way it's not like supertechnology vs Samurai-era stuff.

But I like this character idea of yours. Standing between the light and dark, watching everything unfold from an independent point of view. Will he end up joining either side eventually?

Backstory/Personality: Yoshi has a who cares if crap is destroyed kind of attitude. As long as the job gets done it's all good. He's the type to shown great care and compassion one moment and unnerving cruelty the next. Still he will always choose to catch the criminal or stop a crime as opposed to allowing an act of injustice be commited. Even if he would commit one himself :P Aside from this he is what you would call self-aware. He seems to be aware that he is a character. Nobody would ever believe him because he just seems like he's half nuts, but still he knows. He knows the dreaded secret.

As far as his history goes he doesn't remember anything past his 9th birthday. Perhaps he was hit on the head. Perhaps some event far more traumatic occured. Who knows.

Almost like magic he "performs" almost flawlessly. He lives by the motto that if you cannot amaze others with your brilliance, you must baffle them with your bullshit. He uses a arsenal of trickery, misdirection, slight of hand, among other skills he's trained over his life. His father was a straight forward take things head on kind of guy. They got him, Kei's mother, sister and childhood friend killed. So he prefers not to be like his father and handle things differently. So long as he can accomplish the goal of destroying this corrupt world. Still he can't help, but want ot try and save those he deems innocent. Certain women and children along with a few kind men. He knows not everyone is corrupt.

The stealthy way, the Seductive way, the Interrogation way, etc. She's very good at her job of obtaining and sharing information. A skilled assassin if need be. She makes money, kicks ass and love her or hate her she'll probably be on your mind after you've met her.

Weapons: martial arts expert, but carries 2 knives.
Equipment/Items: a large backpack and always has a twinkie and soda.
Backstory/Personality: Being forced by the incoming aliens to go into cage fights since he was 9, guy has become a force to be recond with, and he showed the captures just how strong he was when he broke out and joined the samurai. When the samurai were defeated he decided to carry out a simple life as an acupuncturist, but when he makes a mistake on a high class noble, he is kicked out and forced to be a beggar. Guy is a gentle, shy, but loyal man. He has a hard time with girls and, will not fight around food and has made himself a strict code of honor. He is a little perverted and can be a freak. All and all he is simple minded and does as he sees as fair and good.

He fits into the ridiculous universe that is Gintama. ^_^ This isn't much of a serious RP, but it has it's moments.

But I's not sure. Your character is with the Joui Factions and/or Kiheitai, so really they should be on Arashi's team. So unsures.

well he's with who ever he feels is right, so it depends, if someone takes his soda he might wipe the floor with them, but if he goes on the way things are now he'll probably help her.
