Synopsis:
After much effort & trial, Hades finally earns the love of his wife Persephone, & the two become inseparable. Demeter does not like the change in her daughter, & kills her own daughter to separate the couple. Hades eventually grips with the fact that his wife has been lost, but doesn't lose hope, for he knows that one day, the pool of souls will release his wife back into the world, & he will have her again.

In the year of 1888, the world has been afflicted with an eternal winter as Demeter mourns the loss of her child. Humans have evolved by growing their plants & food in green houses. In addition to the never-ending cold, a serial killer known as Jack the Ripper has been terrifying the public. Kore Jameson, Persephone in a new body, is growing more concerned every day; Jack the Ripper seems to favor her, from the mysterious letters she's been finding in her private green house.

"I don't want to return to my mother," Persephone announced softly into her warm pillow. Laying submerged in their sea of covers & pillows, Persephone curled up against her husband, dreading what was to happen the very next day. Thanks to her mother's frustrating meddling, Persephone would have to leave her home with Hades in the Underworld to help bring fertility back to the earth for a whole six months. While she wanted her mother to be happy, she was happy when she was at Hades' side. It took some time, but he'd wooed her with his surprising gentleness & warmth.

Pouting, Persephone wrapped her arms around her sleeping mate & buried her face into his chest. She hoped he would simply spend time with her today, so when tomorrow came, it would be just a bit easier for Persephone to leave him & their home. She wished sometimes that Demeter would understand that Hades wasn't the poison she believed him to be, but her mother was forever resentful to Hades for "stealing" her child, even when Zeus himself gave permission. Now Persephone was bouncing back & forth between her lover & mother, as though they both had some equal claim to her. What would Persephone ever do if she became heavy with child? Would she have to leave both her baby & husband behind, or would she have to separate them every half year?

It was time for action. Sitting up in bed, Persephone left Hades to sleep quietly & went out to the courtyard where the Underworld's produce was kept. Reaching into the many baskets kept there, Persephone grabbed a pomegranate, much like the one her husband had fed her so long ago, & brought it back inside with her. She crept to her traveling pack & hid it at the bottom, deciding she may need this later. If her mother wouldn't become more agreeable, she would just eat more seeds, therefore forcing Zeus' hand in ordering Persephone to stay in the underworld with Hades' for the rest of their immortal lives. Persephone hoped it wouldn't come to that, but she was already mentally preparing herself.

She also considered telling Hades of her plan, but he would probably stop her & insist that her mother deserved some time, & that they had a duty to preserve spring & summer. Persephone honestly believed Demeter needed to grow up, & needed to start taking care of the seasons herself. When Persephone was in the Underworld, Demeter pitched fits & let the world perish in the cold, like it was somehow their fault she was sad.

Persephone closed her travelling pack & snuck back into bed with a mischievous grin when she realized her fingers & toes had grown ice cold from being out of the comfortable covers. Sliding closer to Hades, she placed her icy cold fingers on his cheeks to wake him & smiled down at his sleeping face.

Hades woke up to the sight of an angel. She had fiery hair that reminded him of the warmth of summer, yet her fingers on his face felt like sharp pangs brought by winter. He had learned to cherish every waking day, since he had met his wife Persephone, and he had learned to curse every lonesome night for the months she was gone.

Every time she came back to her mother, Hades planned. He planned how he and his wife would spend their days when she came back, but he also planned how he would make her stay more permanent. The possible actions he thought he could take all required one thing: Persephone's death. An action he will never, ever allow, even though all his counsel suggest it. He would never agree to Persephone dying. He would never want her hurt. He would rather spend half the year alone than see her in pain.

"What is it, dear?" he said, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. He returned her touch with his palm on her cheek. "Is it already time?" he said, a frown forming on his face. He feared the day she would have to leave him yet again, due to her mother's grip upon her. He lied down on their bed, thinking about how he would lie there again, every night, cold and alone and without his dear Persephone. Her absence did not feel like an emptiness inside him, like one would usually think. No, her absence made him feel like he shouldered all the despair from all the souls he governed in the underworld.

He loved her more than anything, and without her, he had nothing. Without her, he was nothing.

"No, I am not leaving just yet," Persephone assured Hades softly, "I can get away with a few more hours or freedom with you, & I want them to be special. Take me as yours once more before I leave, please. Claim my body with yours."

Persephone's steady gaze swelled with love as she seduced her husband & climbed into the sheets with him. He wouldn't deny her; he never did. Hades held a secret gentleness that Persephone knew no other being would witness, & more or less allowed his gentle wife to boss him around when they were alone. Out of any gift Hades had given Persephone, his complete devotion to her was what she treasured the most.

..._..._...

Lying wrapped in Hades' grip, Persephone battled with herself. She felt vulnerable after they made love, as she always did, but this time, something weighed heavy on her conscience. She didn't want to hide her plan from Hades; as much as it would thrill her to surprise him with her return later that week, she wanted his full support & to understand what shew was doing for him, what she was doing for them both.

"My love, I'm going to speak to my mother about living here permanently," Persephone told Hades with a quiet voice, "If she refuses to cooperate, I plan to eat another pomegranate from your gardens. It's been nearly 25 years since our marriage day; maybe that hasn't been long for us, but with humans, that is a huge accompishment. & I've only spent half of that time with you, my beloved husband."

Persephone turned to face Hades & gently stroked his cheek with her warm, soft fingers & gave him a reassuring smile. By the end of the week, she would be his completely. Tears stung Persephone's eyes, but she struggled to hold him back.

"I want to have children & be with you always," Persephone announced fervently, "& I don't want you to be alone anymore. You give me so much, & I can do so little to warm up your day. Please, let me confront my mother & end her silly little fit. I have been a woman far too long to allow her to control me like this anymore."

Hades was filled with happiness when she said they had a few hours, but the sudden realization that it was, after all, only a few hours had him depressed. It was all cleared when she seduced him yet again, an action he had always loved and never rejected. Each time they made love, it was like their first; primal, passionate and perfect. He gave her his all, knowing she would be gone yet again in a few hours.

Hades looked at his beloved when they finished making love. She looked content, yet afraid of something, something he did not know. Soon he did, when she spoke.

She spoke of speaking to her mother, about staying in the underworld for good. Both of them knew the answer to that, and it was obvious with her next words. Persephone had a plan.

"My love, you know our current arrangement was Zeus's decree. Should you take another seed, Demeter will only appeal to Zeus; it would not change anything. But I know my brother, and he will side by us both. He knows we have spent years away from each other, and will surely decree that it is enough. He will allow it. But what of your mother?" Hades said. He held her closer against him, wanting to remember her warmth for the months to come.

He feared for him and his wife. He did not fear Demeter, no. He feared what she would do. His days alone was spent planning, and plotting, thinking of ways just like Persephone had, but all of those instances from his ideas, all of those always end up with a wildcard. Demeter's actions. Every god and immortal knew Demeter would be willing to take drastic actions for her will to be heard. He feared she will hurt Persephone even more, not just from separating her from him.

Her smile, her reassuring smile got Hades weak. She did not know what her actions would bring. Neither did he, but he knew what the possibilities are. He has thought of them every day for months. The possibilities were dire. Yet he could not reject her. He could not bring himself to let her down. Her eagerness, her desire to come back to him, it was too beautiful to destroy.

"Do it, my love. Do it for us." Hades said. He had a million more words to say, but he knew, he knew his tears would fall should he say one more.

Persephone was greatly relieved that Hades seemed to be on board with her idea, albeit a little hesitant. She couldn't blame him much, though. Her mother wasn't one to back down easily, even in the face of Zeus himself. But if there was one thing Persephone had inherited from her mother, it was that very stubbornness. She wasn't going to allow her mother to dictate her every action anymore, even if it infuriated the vengeful goddess.

"Even if mother gets angry, she'll understand in time," Persephone assured her husband, snuggling closer to him, "Even she has to come around eventually. Besides, I know we're both tired of having to spend so much of our lives away from each other. It's time for action; even I know that."

Sitting up, Persephone hugged the bed sheets against her body. She could practically feel the day wasting away, taking her away from Hades' embrace & into the sunlight. While she enjoyed being in the warm glow of the above world, it was nothing without her husband at her side.

Persephone's assurance did not assure him of anything. It crushed him, but he didn't let it show. She held on to something that will never happen. Demeter will not give up her daughter. If otherwise, she would have done it ages ago, letting Persephone and Hades live in peace. As a fellow god and an immortal, Hades knew Demeter would always, always stay true to her nature, and her nature was to never let her daughter go. Persephone said her mother has to come around eventually, but for someone that has eternity waiting for them, eventually would never come.

Hades smiled at her words, hoping she didn't catch on to his thoughts. "I believe in you, dear Persephone. Soon, we will be together forever." he said. His words echoed within him, each time hurting even more. "Promise me, though, Persephone. Should your plan not succeed, promise me, that whatever happens, you would come back to me. Please, Persephone. I need to hear it." he said, as he held her cheek on his palm.

"I will always return to your side," Persephone promised Hades with a warm smile. Lunging into her husband, she hugged him tightly & kept close to him, filling him with her gentle warmth. Hades was so nervous still, but why? Demeter didn't approve of their relationship, but she would never hurt her daughter. The woman never raised a hand against Persephone before.

Eventually, Persephone had to come to grips with the fact that she had to get ready for her trip & released Hades, looking at him sadly. She didn't want to have to go at all, even if it shouldn't be for very long this time. Having to part with him was the hardest thing she had to do, & she knew it was just as hard on him as it was on her.

"I will be gone for a week at the longest," Persephone told Hades gently, "After I speak with Mother, she will have a week to make up her mind before I eat the fruit I have in my things. One way or another, I will escape this vice grip she keeps on me for the moment. & when I return, we can be together without fear. Have faith, husband. No matter the time, day, or even lifetime we are in, I will always be yours."
