I thought it was a pretty cool plot twist. Not only is there room for new adventures with the Daleks, there's room for other alien creatures to come in and cause chaos

Perhaps... But it also ruined the infamy and fame he has surrounding the daleks, his mortal enemy.
Plus he is re writing time by making the daleks forget about him, then remember him again.
