So it begins again.

Another semester of students from all walks of life bustling through the crumbling entrance way into CTS' Venetian style interior. The way to the Academy is just as mysterious as the happenings inside--or so they say. Many students recall their very first experience traveling to the nearly hidden institute. After exiting the bullet train a slight walk through a somber forest takes place, which branches create a thick canopy blocking out the many moons lit sky. Their feet take them seemingly into a deep cavern supported by foundering stone arches. At day break the building is illuminated by the collapsing openings in moss covered walls and ceiling. No student ever arrives during the day however, so the dwelling appears ominous with only natural moonlight.

I can remember my first day touring the grounds looking for a perfect place to open such a demanding school. The structure was intact back then, of course but it seems to have taken on a sickness…almost as if—

Droplets of bright red suddenly began trickling downward to the page the Headmistresses quill wrote upon. Trembling fingers lightly raised to graze underneath her cold nostrils revealing fresh blood. Stormy blue eyes stared intently at each finger until an abrupt knock shook her back from intense thought. Her clean hand snatched a few pieces of tissue to wipe the vibrant essence away in haste. These episodes were beginning to occur more everyday, and this ailment was something that magic could not unfortunately vanish. She knew what was happening and what would eventually happen--but was powerless to stop it.

“Come in.” She finally said in a raspy voice after clearing her throat.

Placing the damp tissues into a waste basket beside the dark walnut wooden desk an intimidating onyx haired girl entered into the spacious office, which held nine foot coffered ceilings. After closing towering doors behind her slender tattooed figure, both arms crossed in clear ire. Terra stared grimly at the ghostly Headmistress sitting beneath the antique chandelier with platinum blond locks tousled in an orderly chaotic bun. The older woman casually raised eyes to Terra standing near the doorway before speaking in a smug tone.

“Good evening Miss Markos. Has anyone ever complimented the wonderful smile you have? I suppose not though I digress, have the invitations been sent as requested?” The haughty Headmistress snickered while closing the weathered journal, one of many that held seemingly inconsequential reports throughout her fifty years at CTS.

“Dear New Student,

You are cordially invited to the annual Masquerade Ball in celebration on behalf of--you. No need to panic over attire, measurements have already been pulled from your uniform orders. An elegant ball gown or lavish tux awaits in your assigned dorm wardrobe along with a mask. Please don both pieces as they are mandatory for your entrance into the Grand Hall. Dinner will be provided along with music for your entertainment. Fellow veteran students will greet you and a short speech will commence. The welcome ceremony begins at 10 pm. Do not be late.
” Terra read in comparable to an automated machine. The dreary monotone pitch could put even an insomniac to sleep instantaneously.

“Why yes, that is the one but let’s hope not everyone finds this event void of such enthusiasm like you do.”

“Do you actually think this is necessary Headmistress?” Terra's inquiry seemed genuinely distressing.

“Tradition, my dear.”

“Tradition aside...students are still mourning the loss of Patricia, the freshman. We shouldn't be covering up her disappearance, you are hide—“ Any further sentence was cut short by the hot tempered Headmistress.

“I will not have this discussion with you. Every student has received their invitations and the ball will continue as it always has.” The sophisticated woman scolded but then relaxed as if a weight lifted from her bony shoulders. “We will go on, we have to. It is our duty. You of all people know better than anyone what the stakes are, more so than ever now. Leave me. We have students to greet.”

With those finial words Terra narrowed pale hues in defiance but left without hesitation. Before closing the door she cast a downtrodden glance to the floor. "You're bleeding Headmistress..." Matter-of-factly she commented before pulling the door fully closed. The headmistresses personality was certainly an acquired taste but she had been like a mother to the lost girl. Terra blamed herself for many things including not knowing the cure to aid the frail woman and not preventing Patricia’s disappearance. She let out a sigh and stormed off to her private quarters to ready herself for the introductions. Per year, students would gather into an empty Grand Hall when they arrived. It would only be freshman’s attending along with the welcoming committee that included herself and a few others. The Headmistress would greet them after everyone’s arrival. For some reason Terra had a bad feeling welling up inside--this semester was going to be different...she could sense that much.

School Entrace - Stairway

Fuckin Swamps. That single phrase rang throughout Lance's head as he gazed up at the school and the sky. How could such a beautiful place be surrounded by one of his least favorite environments of all time. Now, Lance was no explorer and did not know many places, but he knew for a fact that the mud, smells, and even the shape of the trees around his journey here were rather unpleasant to him. However, the view he got to see upon reaching his destination was more than worthy of the unpleasantness. He inhaled the fumes around him and was rather pleased with the new taste of the air around him. It tasted fresher and even could fit the description of 'more lively'. This place didn't disappoint, even breathing here had surpassed his expectations!

Lance had gazed upon the building in front of him, it had a very surreal and almost romantic appearance. It was much prettier then any of the other colleges he would have been accepted to, without a doubt. He could only imagine what the inside would be like, and he was also quite excited to see his dorm. He knew he had been placed in the 'Onyx' dorm. Although it wasn't necessarily his favorite type of rock nor color, he couldn't help but be pleased with it, he loved the sound of it! A smile drove itself across his face as he continued to almost sing Onyx through his head repeatedly. Its sound reverberated through his head and heart as though it was a chorus sang by children during a Christmas festival.

Alas, the Onyx train crashed when he suddenly remembered the masquerade! He didn't exactly know how an entrance ceremony like this was going to play out, but it certainly sounded fun! Although a tad bit cartoon-like, it was certainly more interesting than sitting down for a few hours listening to dying rags ramble on and on about honor and some 'trust code' that the students needed to follow when it came to brushing their teeth every morning, or getting yelled at about how they should dream of surpassing the 'Graduates of 77'. However, when it came to the wardrobe, a fear arose from the darkness of his mind and he wondered to himself. 'Are the Tuxedos free?' Chances are the school would pay for it, but he could still hear his wallet scream in fear. But If push came to shove, Lance had no honor. He would simply call home if it came to paying off the expense was too big of a burden for our hero to bear!

Disa Nygren
School Entrance, Stairway

The trip to CTS had been much easier then she had anticipated. The train itself had been packed with other freshmen; crowded and loud, Disa found herself seated at the center of it. While she had been irked at first, the blonde eventually found herself settling in as she made small talk with those around her. Before long the girl had joined in with the crowd, joking and laughing loudly as the eager students settled her nerves. College had never been her first choice, and now that she was on her way to the academy, she couldn’t help but wonder if this had been a bad decision, especially since her acceptance to the prestigious academy seemed pretty sketchy. Never sending out any college applications, Disa wasn’t really sure what to do when the mysterious acceptance letter had showed up on her door. If it hadn’t been for her parents asking her to ‘take the opportunity’, Disa knew she wouldn’t have been on the train, but it was too late to take any of it back now.

The bullet train had eventually come to a stop as students began to file out. Following the group through the tree’s as they walked down the lighted path to the school, the blonde found herself in awe at the forest surrounding them. The grounds before the campus brought a sense of home within the girl as she ran her fingers gently across the bark of each tree she passed. She had considered straying from the group, but Disa didn’t want to be late for her first day. Turning her attention elsewhere, she began to dig through her messenger bag as she searched for her camera. Brushing against something stiff, the girl raised her eyebrow in confusion before pulling out an envelope. It was the invitation she had received with her acceptance letter.

Having assumed it to be her orientation letter at first, Disa had avoided opening it until now. Holding the card in her hand, scarlet hues skimmed over the words as a small frown stretched across her lips, “An elegant dress, huh?”

Uh-oh. It wasn’t that she hadn’t packed anything nice, but Disa couldn’t really call any of it elegant. While it was technically orientation, the idea to skip the ball quickly came to mind. Sighing quietly to herself she put the invitation back into the bag as she turned her attention ahead and pushed away her indecisive thoughts. She would come to a decision when the time came, but until then the small blonde took in the scenery around her as they finally arrived at the campus gates.

Everything was all too surreal as Disa felt her jaw drop at the sight of the campus grounds. The massive cavern that housed the school seemed to be in a battle with nature that grew thick within it. Grass, and flowers covered the ground beneath her boots as the soothing echo of the waterfalls filled her ears. The school towered before the girl now, making her feel ant sized in comparison as she craned her head up to look at the crumbling arches attached to the top of the cavern. The cracks, and holes in the ceiling allowed her to catch a glimpse of the vibrant sky above as the moons shined their brilliant light onto the mossy floor, where Disa couldn’t help but spin around slowly as she took it all in. Taking in a deep breath, she closed her eyes as the fresh aroma filled her lungs ands pumped through her veins. “Beautiful.” She breathed out. Her spinning eventually came to a halt as she took one last look at the grounds before following the rest of the students up the stairway and towards the Grand Hall. 'Maybe this won't be so bad after all.'

Front of school

Arthur stepped out and looked at and around the school. It was pretty, that was true. Not as pretty as where he was from, but it would do nicely as a replacement. He took a deep breath and inhaled the nice smells. The familiar smell of shit flooded his nose, and he loved every second of it. maybe he wouldn't be too far from home. He looked at his watch. it was around 9. He looked around for some help to find his dorm.

Still front of school
Arthur ran around trying to find some help to find his dorm. "Excuse me laddy. Um lassy!" They were all either ignoring him or didn't hear him. "Rude lot this school is." He muttered under his breath, upset he couldn't find help. "What did you say sir?" There was a student next to him She looked to be a junior, and was rather tall. "Oh my lassie. I didn't mean you. Just the school in general. Ah, but maybe you could help me find my dorm room. I am located in the..." He looked down at his paper to make sure he had the room right. " I am looking fo te... Sapphire Room. ooooh nice color sapphire is. color of the sky on a nice, cloudless day. Rather pretty once you sit out in an open field and enjoy it. That is, if your parents let you. Also..." Arthur started rambling on. The student tapped on his shoulder and pointed to the dorm building. "Oh many thanks ma'am." Arthur grabbed the girl's hand without permission and kissed the top of it. "Name's Arthur, but call me Arty." Arthur turned and ran off, not waiting long enough to see the rather surprised, and embarrassed, girl blush.

Sapphire Room, Dormitories
Once he got to his room, Arthur set down his stuff and looked around. "Alright. Time to find that fancy new tuxedo. I've never really worn a tuxedo. wonder if it's comfortable." He turned and started going through all the closets looking for the clothes.

School Entrance - Stairway

Why am I here?

The question had been a constant in Tyler's mind for some time. Even as it now pertained to the school, it was nothing unique or different to inquire, and thus meant no offense to the large and obviously ancient establishment. Not that anyone could possibly read his mind, so there was no reason for a polite 'no offense', but these were the things the eighteen year old thought about, and he couldn't exactly help every last internal comment that flitted through. Still, the original question remained. Why is he here. Why a college of all places in a strange land he didn't understand. Was he even on Earth anymore? Even stranger was the fact that Tyler had never even finished High School and yet some long established college sought him out, found him when even his mother knew not of his location, and had presented him with a hand freaking written letter of acceptance that he hadn't even dreamed of applying for.

The entire situation seemed questionable at best, so there could only one obvious solution. Tyler was dreaming. Or dead, but that seemed unlikely. He felt he should at least remember his own death, so dreaming it was. And yet, how long had it been since receiving the initial letter? Too long to be a dream. So that left zero other options other than that this whole leg of his adventure was actually reality. Glancing around, Tyler tried to take it all in - the alien foliage and crumbling yet almost powerful architect. he pinched himself. Nope, definitely not a dream.

But that still did not answer his original question. Why is he here? This was not the plan - it wasn't even close to the plan. He was to keep moving and keep searching, dodging obstacles and avoiding side trips. And yet here he was - one very large obstacle in the form of a side trip. To be completely honest, it frustrated him to no end, and yet he felt a strange sense of... right in association with the college. If he were to stay here, he had to make the most of his time here. Research when he can, study a few maps if possible, maybe even write home to mother. Well, maybe not the last one. Yeah, probably not.

Pursing his lips, almost as if the subtle movement solidified his decision, Tyler started off towards his assigned dorm room - Onyx - thoughts of the tuxedo and upcoming ball moving to the forefront of his mind.

School Grounds – Paths to Dorms

Acacia’s eyes rolled heavily as she’d stand stiffly in the schools main grounds. Dark fringe almost like that of blood red outlining her almost delicate face; her slender arms hanging by her side, one holding a suitcase, the other loosely gripping a leather fabrication of a leash. Pale almost clear eyes of icy blue swept over the elegant location, her heart was singing lightly at the view she was receiving, it was awe inspiring. But, her dark lips equal to her hair didn't twitch, not even to bare the appreciative smile she should bare. Knuckles tensing as her almost frail fingers latched at the leash harshly. She was less than impressed with the room assigned, she’d requested that of a private dorm, but was stuck in the Garnet Room, second floor of the females building if she remembered correctly.

Legs striding now at a fast pace, she’d known other students were bound to start arriving as it was getting late; she wasn't going to be late for the Masquerade, even if it sounded like an odd concept. If anyone spotted her the heavy figure beside her, almost up to her hip moved at a proud pace. Head high, ears pointed sharply angled forward, docked tail lifted and chest out. He was a proud creature indeed, his figure noticeable to the eye of being predominantly muscle all over, the harness warn around his chest was a solid almost forest brown, it was thick in leather and the buckles secure so he couldn’t escape it.

He almost seemed to cling to the 5’9 girl’s side. The chains around his neck creating almost a melodic tone as they rubbed together; this was only to mingle with the same symphony coming from Acacia’s nose ring to earring chain. He was a young looking canine that of a Doberman pinscher in appearance. As they made their way to the dorm it was apparent on Acacia’s seemingly displeased face, that whoever made the decision for her to share was a bad idea as the pair made it to the stairs and ascended as fast as they could. Entering the large room and glancing around; The audible sudden eminence of vocals from the canine echoed through the room and probably to the rooms upstairs and down, the pale eyes of Acacia rested upon the student items already within the room and she scoffed lightly raising a flat palm gesturing to the canine to hush.

Dropping the leash she’d walk around the room eyeing all the colors, blood red seemingly coated the place, it was a dark room at this time; and she wasn't in the mood to find the light, she simply threw her bag onto the unoccupied bed. Noting another unoccupied she almost scowled herself hoping it remained that way. Moving and closing the door she’d turn to face the dress she’d been told to wear. She looked at Koshmarik as he investigated the others items in the meantime dragging the leather behind him. She’d investigate the dress mumbling lightly in Russian “Eto mesto razrushit menya, oni luchshe ne ozhidat' bol'she , chem eto”.

If anyone heard, they’d probably understand nothing; she complained lightly in those words and forgot time as she stared aimlessly at the fabric she was supposed to wear.

Stairway Entrance >>> Onyx Dorm

There was no more time spent to be gawking around! As much as he loved to play the tourist, it was time to move on. On his way through the stairway, and through the building itself. The beauty continued to amaze him, but he couldn't help until he adjusted to it and it wouldn't phase him! That would be the life, to live in a luxurious and romantic place like this without a care in the world. To not even remember that you had found the place perfect, and now it was just every-day! The thought occupied his mind as he roamed throughout the halls and scenery.

The thought flew away, as his legs stood firm in front of the dorms. Although he was confused for a short while, he was able to find his way with relative ease! As his path formed, his intentions grew clearer and clearer. If you were telepathic, you would probably hear 'Thats It! I don't know whats going down at this ball, but If I can I'll make sure that everyone wished they Knew who lie underneath my mask! They will wish to realize who's handsome face was just waiting to be uncovered once they remove the obtrusion that prevents them from finding out who really is the king of the court! Ha!' He couldn't help but giggle to himself as his thoughts calmed down. He probably wasn't going to do anything spectacular, but its dreamy to think he would.

However, as he drew closer and closer to his destination, he realized something that could not only dent his idea, but ruin it much more so! If his idea was a dream car, the realization would be akin to the horrible and unsightly detail the car-salesmen oh-so-simply glazed over when making your mouth water. He didn't know how to dance! He couldn't bear to lift his head once he arrived to his room, for the potential shame loomed over his head ready to strike.

Lance twisted the knob, and after the 'clank' from rotating the handle to it's limit quickly passed, he walked into his new room. Despite the rest of the school being pretty top-notch and out of a story book, he felt the room was a tad bit bland. But it had everything he needed! Lance wanted to avoid spending time in the dorm anyway, so its not like he was going to be surrounded by the Onyx walls for long. "Now, first thing's first!" he almost shouted to himself as he began to search the room for the suit that was supposedly waiting for him. However, he had failed to look in the most obvious place until last, the closer! 'Who would have thought they put clothes in the closet you dumb shit.' he continued to talk shit to himself as he pulled open the closet, and woah-and-behold! His custon-made tuxedo and mask!

Now, the Tuxedo itself was plain white with a dash of black, Lance had absolutely no objections to that, but the mask however! The mask! THE MASK! He might not even have to try to make his little dream come true, however chances are it'll brand him as more of an idiot than a romantic, suave, and savory individual. Alas, that is a sacrifice Lance chooses to make for greatness!

Liam Fleming
School entrance >> Sapphire room

Liam leaned back and closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath through his nose. He was never fond of moving this fast, it always gave him a queasy feeling. He always tended to get a little car sick. He stayed quiet through the whole ride, slightly separate from everyone. This was a moment when personal space was a must. When the movement stopped, his eyes slowly opened, having kept them closed nearly the entire ride. He stood up, filling off of the bullet train. Once on fresh air, he allowed the air to fill up his lungs then slowly expel it, settling his stomach. He was just glad he didn't throw up. That wouldn't have been the best first impression. He then slowly looked around at the surrounding area, getting the first look at the place he would be spending most of his time at now.

It was quite stunning, even in the eerie moonlight. He could handle living here. He slowly walked, gazing around at the forest. He felt like exploring it, but perhaps at another time. After things have settled down at school a little and habits are formed, and a more relaxed air occurs. Things currently feel excited and slightly nervous. He looked around at all the bustling people, making his way slowly to his dorm now. Sapphire, if he recalled correctly. And inside, should be a tuxedo and mask for the ball, dance thing tonight. A sigh escaped his lips. He was never fond of that sort of thing. At all. Oh well, at least it should just get better from there. Right?

He stepped inside the dorm building, climbing up the stairs to his own dorm. Once he spotted it, he stepped inside, quickly throwing his stuff onto a bed, except for one bag, that held more delicate items. He then spotted the other person, who appeared to be slightly younger. He cleared his throat and spoke," hello, I'm Liam." While waiting for a reply, he turned to the closest closet. He immediately took out a tuxedo and a mask he nodded his approval, throwing it on his bed. He looked at the other man again, studying him slightly in curiously.

Forest pathway>>>Academy

«The sky's a bit crowded, isn't it Mr. Beetle?» Nellia whispered as she stared intently at the night sky, full of stars and moons. In her closed hands, a beetle she had just caught was squirming uncomfortably, fear flooding its every cell. She found the train a bit too fast and a tad too busy for her taste although she did enjoy all the people around her, laughing and talking with each other as if they were friends of old and not men and women who met just minutes ago.

Nellia strolled casually down the well-trodden path as she entertained herself by smelling the various plants and whispering words of comfort to her captive bug which was most certainly by this time, praying to whatever God beetles pray to.

«You know Mr. Beetle, this forest ain't empty. And I don't mean that it's full of birds and deers and your kin but full of... full of something else too. Forests are like that though, aren't they Mr. Beetle? Full of mystery?... You're awfully quiet. I don't like it. I don't like you. Perhaps you're hiding your true self. Perhaps deep down you are a very interesting beetle. I want to see, Mr. Beetle, I want to take just a tiny little look in your tiny little core.»

The small beetle didn't feel much after that. Only its prison tightening around it to the point that its mangled body was covered in its very own intestines. Perhaps beetle-heaven was a thing and he would live an eternity in sheer bliss. Or not.

«Am sorry, Mr. Beetle. Turns out we were too different.» she whispered as she wiped her hands with some leaves and continued her walk through the forest until she reached the grand yet visibly aged entrance of the Academy. She stopp-

«Stop narrating! You've been doing that since I got on that damned train and it's driving me bonkers!» she suddenly started yelling, attracting lots of attention from a lot of people. Sudden outbursts like that weren't that rare for those who had spent time around Nellia yet only when she was particularly stressed or angry did she resort to expressions like ''bonkers''.

«You little gobshite! You stop this-- Oh look, there's a ball coming up that am supposed to attend!» With the attention span of a mosquito on ecstasy, Nellia finally remembered that she had been assigned to a dorm and that she would have to attend a ball later. In fact, she did wonder how could she forget such a thing. Without hesitation, she started running towards the stairs on the far side of the hall she was in despite the fact that she had absolutely no idea where ''Ivory'' was located.

Ivory

«Finally. For a moment there, I thought the corridors forgot where they were supposed to lead.» she exclaimed, sweaty and and flushed from all the running. She entered the room and immediatelly fell in love with it and the part she would call her personal space. She felt it calling to her, the bed near the window, right next to the wall, a bit secluded and with the most beautiful mask she had ever set eyes upon on it. She left her small, leather, patched up backpack on the bed and opened the closet, eager to see what would accompany that glorious mask.

And she wasn't disappointed. Her dress would compliment her figure perfectly. It wasn't as colorful as she would have liked but perhaps a simple and modest debut was a good enough introduction.

«I'll probably look ravishing in that dress. I hate it when I do that, someone might have his heart broken...Oh well, it's not like hearts aren't supposed to break, if that was the case, we wouldn't have to be really careful when walking. Broken hearts are sharp.»

She put the dress back in the closet and started playing with her bright red hair as she watched the world move outside her window. New beginnings scared her and this one more than usual and she would definitely wish on a shooting star that this adventure would be worth it.

Garnet Dorm Room >> School Ground Paths

Acacia’s fingers eventually curled around the fabric in front of her. She didn't dislike the dress, not in the slightest, the gentlest smile in the form of curled lip ends she’d seem almost in love with the item. It was like silk to the touch, a fabric made to be comfortable upon being worn. The gown itself was made of pitch black satin material’s, wrinkled from top to bottom it was something she’d always wanted to wear, the mix of lace and silk feelings from blood red to black, it was marvelous in her opinion. She beamed at its well-crafted appearance, it seemed impossible for someone to have made it. Beside it lay a pair of laced forearm high gloves and elegant heels of a simple black style.

She’d changed into the odd dress with a fair bit of struggle. Almost falling over multiple times < thud, bang, thud, thud > was all anyone upstairs or down could probably hear, once wearing the dress and accessories she’d sigh and wander around to find a mirror, upon finding one in the corner of the room she’d stand in front of it, hair still in a ponytail curled in an odd way down her spine she’d spin lightly on her heels. A bright smile spread upon the dark lips as she’d bite down gently on her lower lip, the three piercings offering no bother to her as she’d suddenly turn to look at Koshmarik who was sniffing an odd item laying where the dress had been, obviously it’d been under the dress. She wandered over and almost beamed as she spotted the mask. Picking it up in a slender grip she’d turn it around and lightly tie the satin straps around the back of her head.

Clicking her fingers she’d speak softly “Koshmarik, come,” she’d grasp the leather leash lightly as he came to her side and she’d head for the door after looking around, she waited not even the slightest to discover who she shared with, though she’d gained a better appreciation for the place. At this time she’d forgotten her hate for being place in a room shared by others. Her heels clacked lightly as she’d open the door with a gentle ‘click ’ and closed it after herself and the canine. She had the invitation tucked in the left underarm side of her dress’s bodice and turned lightly heading down the corridor and stairs. She’d find herself outside once more heading along the paths; it was getting late as she’d move at a slow pace. Passing by the other dorms she’d stop for a moment as she’d look at the entrance to which she’d come from. Shaking her head from any doubtful thought’s she’d turn and head along the path that had a sign signalling towards the Grand Hall.

She knew most other students may have been still getting ready or too busily admiring the place, she liked to be on time or early to her events in which case she left with plenty of time to spare.

Grand Hall

After nearly fifteen minutes walking she’d approach the large building, stopping with widened eyes she’d gawk at its beauty and size. Pale eyes fluttering as she’d look at the open doors and head towards it, clutching the leash tightly she’d take a deep breath upon approaching it and only to then enter the large doorway. She was now glued to the spot, eyes looking at everything, mouth gaping, and hands loosening as she’d blink lightly. “Chudesnyy” she’d say softly with what seemed to be a heavy Russian accent, anyone near her would undoubtedly pick up on it, though they may have avoided her due to the canine whose glare was seemingly menacing towards them. She’d eventually drag herself towards the corner of the room and stand with the invitation in one hand reading over it. Spare hand gesturing with the faint word “vniz”, the canine evenly and in undoubtful obedience lowered his frame to the ground.

Nikoli Resh

School Cafeteria, Entrance

As if by teleport, Nikoli found himself arrived at the school. Having slept in many compromising positions the entire train ride there, Niko was well rested and full of energy. He has never been what he would call a "good thinker" so the many questions he had about the whole situation were quickly dismissed. Instead he prefered to bask in and take advantage of this great opportunity. The only actual schooling he's recieved were by the orphanage and that was just above mediocre. He was excited to get a real education and became quite full of himself, being considered specially chosen to attend gave him a cocky attitude about it. Even when he first arrived at the entrance he strutted with his chin held high, giving little thought to the unorthodox appearance of the university. This frame of mind was best suited for a person with his history. Avoiding the most unpleasant of his memories has so far worked very efficiently, allowing for him to flourish his all or nothing way of living and his seemingly attention seeking personality.

"Hmm......either our rooms smell delicious or these aren't the dorms" Niko says while scratching his head in frustration. Looking around he discerns which direction to attempt next. He then notices a giant, antique style clock up on a tall building. "AH SHIT, I better find my room or I'm gonna miss this...mas...ku....rade?" Niko says with hesitation while reading the invitation, unsure of how to pronounce the word and what it meant exactly. Another 10 minutes of sprinting around campus and he finally finds the dorms. Running to the top floor he quickly realized it was the incorrect floor as he noticed all the blank and aggressive looks from the women there. Rushing back to the first floor he finds the dorm board with room and floor details. "AHA, I got you." Niko yells in a combination of relief and excitement. Quickly getting to his room he enters with much anticipation. With a child-like smile Niko absorbs the whole situation. Having his own living room and private room, it was almost too much. After he touched every appliance, sat in every chair, and looked out the window pointing and waving at people who can't see him, he finally enters his room. First thing he did was run and jump onto his bed. It was at least twice as big and ten times more comfortable as anything he's slept on. Trying to stay focus he began searching for his outfit. Before he found it in the closet he looked in the restroom first, thinking because there is a mirror in there that that's where they would put it.

Stripping his clothes off quickly he throws his Tuxedo on, though incorrectly the first couple times. He then grabs his mask and slowly puts it on his face while humming suspensful music. And with an expression of sudden revelation Niko finally understood what kind of event a masquerade was. Exiting his room Niko, to his suprise, made it to the Grand Hall entrance on his first attempt. " ugh, they better have food I AM STARVING!"

Tyler moved slowly, but with purpose, trying to remember what he could about the dorm he was assigned. Onyx room, second floor of the male dorms and he had roommates…. two others? Were there three of them in total? That should be interesting. Though Tyler really didn’t see any problems with sharing living space with others, there was always the possibility that one or both of them was a raging psychopathic nutjob….

Okay, Tyler had to admit very slim, but still a chance.

Almost entirely positive that the dorm arrangements would be the least of his problems at this incredibly strange college, Tyler entered the first floor of the male dorm and couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows in disbelief. He didn’t know what he should have expected – maybe a couple of cheap couches, some chairs, all huddled around an average sized TV – but what he saw was not that.

Instead, aside from the staircase, a series of doors greeted him and, upon further inspection, the doors held various game rooms and a snack room. Interesting. Heading towards the stairs, Tyler paused, grabbing the railing and looking back at the doors. He could just spend his time here instead of the ball… With a snort, Tyler continued on his way up the stairs. No, he should probably participate in the activities of this strange place.

Upon reaching the Onyx room, Tyler let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding in. Even though it said he was sharing this ‘room’ with others, there were smaller separate rooms inside, all around a common living area. It was almost as if they were in some kind of apartment rather than an actual dorm room. Pleased, Tyler continued into a seemingly unoccupied room and dumped his things onto the bed. The ball was soon, so he didn’t have much time to get settled. Rolling his eyes at the absurdity, he easily found the tuxedo in the closet, and the mask hanging on the same hanger. Neither were too outrageous, so he donned the tux as quickly as he could and then proceeded to unpack his things, now that he was ready.

He didn’t have many things, an old book-bag, some spare clothes, a wallet, an extra pair of shoes. He put the wallet in back in his bag and then put everything in the closet before dropping himself onto the bed and surveying his room. Thankfully, the room wasn’t as extravagant as the rest of the college. It was actually fairly plain. The bed was made with plain blue sheets and two pillows, and the floor was of a similar plain carpet and the walls were a plain color. Oddly enough, he found comfort in the familiarity of plainness. It suited him.

Before too long, Tyler finally decided that it was time to go to that ball, so without a glance back, he put on his mask and walked through the door of his room, eventually making it out of the door of the entire dorm as well.

Onyx Dorm >>> On way to Masquerade

Lance knew he had two roommates, that was all he knew about the dorm so far. Whether they were friend or 'foe' was to be discovered. However, while changing into his new Tuxedo and mask, he heard more then just a few doors open and close. He figured that meant he either has more then two roommates, or that they had already left! So, Lance took a few minutes to adjust himself. All six eyes on the mask(excluding his own) had no focus to them, and just rattled about looking in different directions every time his body moved. However, his eyes had enough focus to make up for the six that didn't! And they focused on the door. As well as a map he found in his room, a map of the school no less! It was a nice discovery for him, because without it Lance was doomed to be unable to make it to the ball in time.

He quickly, but quietly, shut the door behind him and left his room in a bit of a rush. However, the fact that he left in a rush didn't mean he was going to stay that way! He was always quick to stop and check out the suits and masks of the others, and he was a tad bit surprised by how that all went. Some students giggled when the saw him, while others gave an exasperated sight, but he had even seen a number of masks even more delirious than his! Whoever sent out these outfits had a rather tasty sense of humor. He wasn't even at the little masquerade and he was already having a blast! He couldn't wait to discover how this was all going to go down.

As Lance continued to rush around with map in hand, he was able to make it to the ball on time! Even more so 'on time' then he had thought, because it looked like at the rate he was going he was going to have a few minutes to spare! A few minutes he could spare to tidying himself up one last time, he didn't want to look like he rushed here from a third world country after all! Whats the use of going to a masquerade if your not going to try to look fancier than every-other fool that thinks they can one-up you there?

Stairway - Garnet Dorm Room - Grand Hall

The calm chatter that came from the rest of the freshmen soon grew quiet as everyone seemed to head off to their dorms. Still standing at the stairway and taking everything in, the blonde adjusted the strap to her duffle bag along her shoulder before doing the same to her messenger bag and heading towards her dorm room. A number of students began to head out of their rooms, dressed nicely in beautiful gowns and handsome tuxes. Feeling under dressed, she avoided eye contact as she hurried up the stairs. Coming up to the second floor, Disa’s eyes caught sight of a tall red headed girl, and a dog making their way towards her. Admiring her appearance, and looking over her black and red lacy dress slowly, she gave a polite smile as they passed one another. Turning her head back she watched the other girl make her way down the stairs a small sigh escaped her lips before she headed towards her dorm, “I guess I need to be getting ready too..”

Garnet room, garnet room, garnet room, garnet room—‘ Passing up a number of doors, Disa came to a stop as she read the placard beside one of the doors, “Here we go.” Taking out her dorm key, she turned the lock before slowly peeking in. Earning an eerie creak from the door, her voice called out into the dark dorm room as she waited to enter, “Hello?” Earning no reply, she slowly stepped in and closed the door behind here. Finding a light switch near the door, Disa flicked on the light as the living room finally came into view. Furnished, and set up comfortably, the red warm walls brought a calming sense to the room as the blonde slowly made her way around it. Two doors sat opposite along two walls, which Disa assumed was her room and her roommates. Unsure of who it was, she peaked into the both rooms to see if either had been claimed. Noticing luggage in the room to the left, Disa headed for the one to the right. Plopping down along the bed with small huff, she laid flat along mattress as she stared up at the dark ceiling.

Thoughts swarmed her head as she thought of the past couple of weeks. Gwens disappearance had taken a heavy toll on the girl, both emotionally and physically. A few days after she had gotten word from her parents, Disa sulked in room and avoided her parents and friends. Guilt swarmed her head and heart, and left her feeling empty and angry at herself. It had been her idea to sneak around, and find out more about kidnappings, so it should have been her. Not Gwen. It almost felt like she was betraying her friend coming to CTS. Instead of sitting in a pretty dorm room, and getting ready for a ball, maybe Disa could have been out there looking for her. Her chances might have been slim, but it still would have been something. Groaning at her thoughts, she sighed loudly to herself before sitting up and rubbing her head. Overthinking the situation had brought on a headache as she stood and began to pack away her things.

Trying to distract herself from her thoughts, and worries she placed her things out along the bed before walking over to the closet to grab some hangers. Upon opening the door scarlet orbs widened. Hanging by itself in the empty closet was a beautiful white gown, with a golden masquerade mask attached to the hanger. Tracing her hands over the silky material, she carefully grasped the mask and took it into her hands. Running her fingers along the wing-like edges, she found herself breath taken once again. Staring at it long enough, her eyes narrowed a bit as she took down the hanger and got a closer look at it, “How did they know my size?”

Suspicion, and confusion was clear in her eyes as she looked over the dress again. It was an odd coincidence, but the girl was done with poking around for answers at the moment. Closing her room door, she quickly removed her casual clothes and pulled on the elegant dress. Struggling to zip herself up at first, Disa pulled on a pair of white heels that had also been tucked in the closet for use. Not having enough time to do her hair, or enough care really, her straight blonde locks sat With the dress sitting only inches off the floor now, she twirled slowly causing the material flare and spin gracefully with her movement. Standing in front of the mirror now, she looked over herself as her spinning came to an end. Growing up, Disa had never really liked wearing anything too fancy. She enjoyed being comfortable, and relaxed but as she stared at herself now she couldn't help but feel beautiful in the white gown. Fitting her shape nicely, she ran her hands over the material once more before grabbing the mask and the masquerade invitation and heading out of her room.

Stepping out of the dorm room now that she was all dressed up and ready, the blonde carefully hurried down the stairs after locking the door. Not bothering to look at the time, considering she knew she was already cutting it close here heels clicked quickly and loudly as she made her way down the hallway. Drawing closer and closer to the Grand Hall, more students came into view. Noticing everyone wearing their masks, her eyes shot down to the golden mask within her hand as she brought it up to eye level and looked over it again. Before stepping out into the crowd, Disa slowly placed the mask on as she adjusted it so her scarlet eyes were peaking out of the eye holes. Giving a hard swallow as she shook off any dwelling anxiety she let out a deep breath and began to make her way down the hallway towards the Grand Hall.

Grand Hall

Acacia remained standing in the corner to the far left of the door, pale eyes ghosted over those who entered the great construction. She couldn’t make out facial expressions though she could guess many would have wide eyes, gaping mouths and a speechless notation that the place seemed almost magical. She herself had her arms lightly behind her back, the invitation tucked under her arm on the right as she’d clasp her fingers together in uncertainty.

The form beside her seemed anxious to settle, so many filed in one after the other or in groups. All wearing tuxedo’s and masks, she remained silent other than hushed words at the canine beside her. She’d stand out easily with him so close, but, that didn’t faze her in the slightest.

Acacia released her hands as she kept the right behind her back, the left raising as she’d run fingers through the lightly scattered fringe over her mask. Shifting softly the movement of her feet allowed the gentle clacking of heels to emit from below her form. The long gown covering her heels as she’d lower her hand to then play with its crumbled base.

Everyone seemed so eager to get inside and while she couldn’t deny she was an early bird to the large assembly. Blood red seemingly engulfed her form as she stood solitarily off to the side. She wasn’t the best at being social, but, she couldn’t help but admit it got lonely sometimes. With the canine so close and so seemingly on alert, she knew most would probably avoid and ignore the slender figure.

It could have been noted that such a girl shouldn’t need such a companion by her side at a dance, maybe she was too scared to go alone, maybe she had problems that the dog needed to be around for, maybe just maybe she couldn’t leave the poor thing at the room alone. But, then the question as to why she brought him to such a place, that was for others to find out at a later date if at all it needed be known.

Without focusing on Koshmarik to greatly, and too focused upon the crowd ahead, she hadn’t noticed he’d raised himself to his four feet. Leaning forward slightly his head was raised and ears erected. He was watching intently those entering the room, something caught his eye, something Acacia couldn’t spot herself, his chest rumbled the slightest and she snapped from her daze trying to see what was wrong. Spotting nothing she’d speak softly yet firmly “Koshmaric vniz, tam nichego net.”

He silenced and lowered as he rested his head on extended front paws. Amber eyes merely watching what he thought he’d seen. Maybe he just didn’t trust some of the people, Acacia couldn’t tell 100%, but, she wanted to not stick out like a sore thumb.

- Train to the Academy, Third Row Seat >> Ivory Dorms -

Gracie did her best to ignore the commotion around her as her eyes methodically scanned across the pages of her book. Well, book was really bit of a charitable term for it.... "Brick" or "Grimoire" seemed much more suitable to describe the sheer massive size of the monstrosity which she was reading. It was big. Really, really big. So big that she found herself unable to support its weight with her arm strength alone, and had to raise her legs to prop it up, using her knees for support. Although it was hard for others to really tell from the angle she was holding it in, it looked fairly old and had clearly seen better days. Across its weathered black cover, faded golden letters read "Anthology: The Complete Work of Kant". The edges of the book were frayed with age, and many of the pages seemed to have been distorted by neglect or humidity.

In spite of the volume's decrepit condition, she seemed enraptured in her reading nonetheless, blissfully ignoring her chaotic surroundings as she lost herself within the words. Admittedly, the noise made it pretty hard to concentrate properly, and she had to re-read a few segments once or twice, but the content was rather interesting, and it provided a handy and convenient excuse to avoid socializing with the other students. Sure, some might say that such writing was a bit too complicated in comparison to some of what other people her age usually read, but she personally always found a certain comfort in the familiarity of books. They, for lack of a better term, made sense, while people far too often did not.

She had obtained her latest one, along with most of his companions, when she learned that the local library was throwing them out, shortly before leaving. Apparently, they had suffered some sort of water accident involving a pipe break, which had led them to get rid of all books they considered to be too damaged to be of use anymore. Gracie had come by the next day, and salvaged a fairly respectable amount of reading material for herself. Sure, they were all damaged to some extent, but for the most part they were still pretty readable. As long as you didn't mind the occasional coffee stained ring or water blurred page, they were enjoyable, and best of all, free. She didn't really have much funds available most of the time, and a sizable majority of her possessions, from her books to her clothes, had been obtained second or third hand from thrift stores and garage sales.

Thankfully, the passanger sitting next to her hadn't felt the need to initiate a conversation with her, unlike most of the other people on the train, and seemed content to sleep and leave her alone for the most part. The remainder of the trip, for lack of being silent, was fairly short at least, and it wasn't long before they were all debarking. Accustomed to the relatively bland Euthenian metro system, she was caught completely unprepared when they were greeted, not by the monochrome concrete structure that she expected, but rather a vast, majestic forest, who's imposing figure stretched far and wide. Well, that's how it seemed to her at the time, at least. She had never really been much of an outdoors person, to be perfectly honest, and the closest she had come to nature beforehand was whenever her foster parents would force her into the miserable urban square of grass and sand they called a park.

As she walked through the forest and, later, swamps, on the way to school, wonder soon gave way to annoyance. While her luggage was by no means amongst the largest to have been brought onto the train, it was still fairly heavy, and the measly wheels it rolled on were clearly not designed for trekking through the woods. Not to mention that, as far as attributes go, physical fitness was never really one of her primary concerns, and her muscle strength could best be ranked somewhere between "mediocre" and "Oh gods I think that skeleton just moved!". No one offered her any help as she struggled silently to keep up with the group as they walked, though, in all fairness, neither did she ask for any. No, she simply stubbornly suffered in silence instead, dragging her luggage behind her.

Needless to say, by the time she arrived at the dormitory building, she was beginning to feel rather exhausted. Well, technically, it was more like the "mildly inconvenienced" of someone who hadn't done any exercise in a few years than the real "exhausted" a real athlete might feel after workout, but she really didn't care for such distinctions right now. She was exhausted. The fact that she had been forced to turn around in circles three times because she didn't want to ask for directions might also have had something to do with that, a little voice at the back of her head also added. At least now she knew where the other paths led, on the bright side. Still, all throughout the entire ordeal, her face had maintained the same bland, emotionless expression it always had. Even when she was tempted to simply slump down onto the floor in defeat upon realizing that her room was on the third floor. Okay, to be fair, she didn't really ever think of doing that, but she was still tired.

When she finally reached the door to her new room, she took a short, silent breath to ready herself for whatever might await on the other side, then crossed the threshold. The dorms were surprisingly spacious, compared to some of the orphanages and families she'd been to. Every student apparently had their own room, and only really shared living quarters in the loosest of senses. Thank the gods for small favors, at least she wouldn't have to endure the same sort of clash of lifestyles and schedules as she had with one of her previous stepsisters.

It looked like one of the rooms was already occupied, so she headed to the other one to deposit her baggage, before heading back to introduce herself. Okay, she didn't so much "deposit" as "dump it on the bed", but she really wasn't in the mood for semantics. Anyways, she headed back to the main room, then gave a hesitant knock on the door frame, before peaking into the room.

"Hello, I am Gracie." she began. As usual, she spoke in her typical bland, monotone voice, her speech mechanical and devoid of contractions. "I think that we are dormmates."

Terra & Raven
> Grand Hall <

A tall figure in black emerged through a doorway and stood atop a middle balcony on an elegant double staircase overlooking the flooding of new students. Each entered into the Grand Hall wearing a uniquely elaborate disguise while Terra waited impatiently with arms folded tightly below her chest. All were fitted into specifically ordered pieces of art of the Headmistresses choosing. By their body language many seemed comfortable and pleased in the apparel and location--all except Terra. Her cold stare cast upon the crowd was made even fiercer by the diamond encrusted black mask across her colorless face. Three gold chains looping below her smoldering eyes done up with carbon tint eye shadows—if looks could kill…they would all be dead. She did not intentionally loath the newcomers, in fact, her gaze was not focused on them any longer.

Among shimmering ball gowns and custom fit tuxes a slender woman stood alone in the far back corner in a peculiar getup. Shiny ebony pheasant feathers coated the entirety of the floor length tiered dress. Arms were completely covered by long feathery sleeves as well. Essentially, the only bit of skin showing was her slim neck but even that was somewhat hidden beneath volumes of wavy platinum hair. Vast ultramarine eyes peered behind a mask resembling some sort of bird and the girl known as Raven continued to stare toward the balcony where Terra stood attentively.

Terra, visibly tense, placed one hand at her side while the other gathered the long onyx train. After sweeping the material aside so her diamond heels did not step upon it, she descended down the numerous steps until finally reaching the bottom where she halted. There were a few strange individuals strewn about the room wearing matching black and white masks. How many of the other students observed this regard was unknown to her but these people blended into the crowd just the same. Their presence had distracted the restless Terra, and she lost sight of her target. Raven managed to intermix herself within the mass, not wishing to discuss serious matters at this point.

Although no music played voices created a symphony of range loud enough to fill the Grand Hall. Not an ounce of food had yet been supplied either, and this ball rather resembled a cage housing trapped animals. Things would continue to stay this way for a while, giving time for interactions, friendships, or rivalries to slowly emerge. Raven found herself dreading socializing freshman year but that fear passed, and seemed petty compared to what was beginning this year.

Grand Hall

Now that our hero arrived at the scene of the masquerade, he entered the ballroom in a strut! For a few minutes he would care not to look around, pay attention to those around him, and instead would let the scenery soak in. The atmosphere was of that he had never experienced before. He doubted that he had ever been this close to so many people at once! It almost gave him a panic attack, and the world slowed down for a second or two. All he could see were blurs of colors and the clashing of strange voices on his eardrums. It was as if the world had sped up, and left Lance behind! Fortunately, Lance regained his bearings quickly. Now that he could tell where one person ended and another began, his mission was clear.

It was time to mingle! Something that Lance had slightly dreaded, although he was relatively skilled at making conversations last with people he knew, starting up new ones with people who'm he had never met under strange circumstances wasn't exactly his forte. Every eye on his head was in a twist, none of them knew what to focus on! However, even under these slightly distressing conditions Lance was still able to enjoy himself a bit. However, there was one thing that caught his eye, and something that would keep his mind occupied when other's couldn't....there wasn't any food!

Lance's simple mind glazed over the fact that more people then there should be wearing certain black and white masks, and was instead just absorbed by the notion of non-existent food as well as the continuous stream of new people surrounding him. It almost made him want to shout out to them, for they were just less than a foot away a large portion of the time, but also as far away as they could ever get. However, Lance had prepared himself for this. He may not always be the gutsiest person around, but now was his time to shine!

He closed his eyes, took a step back(fortunately not into anyone) and took a deep breath. After a silent prayed to no god in particular had been prayed, Lance jumped forward at the person in front of him. Without even to bother at looking at the person first, he exhaled all of the courage he could muster. His courage sounded a bit like this, "Hey! Please tell me you're new here. Do you know much about this masquerade?" Although he didn't mean for it to happen, every single eye on his head rested on the person in front of him.

Acacia had eventually moved herself to somewhat mingle within the crowd. She hadn’t noticed much and kept to herself even within the shroud of blurred colours wrapped around figures of all shapes and sizes. Her pale eyes averting direct converse with those around her and her slender fingers gripped the leather leash tightly. Almost from what seemed like a fear.

She mumbled lightly to herself as she spun with people moving so fast and had caught glimpses of what seemed like many with the same masks. Her eyelids fluttered under the mask she wore and she almost gasped as she walked into multiple people. Koshmarik causing them all to back away at their own pace and remove themselves to different banters happening about.

She’d seemingly stopped in place after a few moved away and she’d spin on her heels causing them to clack lightly upon the flooring. Taking her own deep breath only half way through, she then suddenly squealed in a high pitched vocal. Her eyes went wide at the person so near to her speaking loud and clear. She blinked and took a step back her face baring shock as she grasped the leash tight enough her knuckles began turning a pale white.

This wasn’t the greatest idea because the canine on the end had raised his head already and was pulling against it with a light rumble in his chest. The suddenness made him stand on edge as he’d change from focusing on the odd people in the room to the one so close and seemingly determined. His maw spread only a few inches, enough to ripple his muzzles bridge like mountains and bare the ivory whites below.

She nodded at his question about being new but then shook her head at him asking about the masquerade. She was as lost as him and from the sudden shock she looked like she was probably about to cry or even go off her head. After gaining enough focus she’d look him over quickly and take yet another deep breath “I am new, yes” she huffed the words and fixed herself to a straighter posture, “And no, I know nothing of this event”. The Russian accent rung on her words like it was made to accompany the elegant almost soothing tone.

This tone seemed to settle Koshmarik to a degree, but she’d peer down and lightly say in a hushed vocal “Tishina, vse v poradke” she bent over the slightest allowing a spare hand to spread and run from the temple of his head to the base of his neck. “Vniz” she’d gesture with a calm hand to accompany the word and as she raised to look at the man again the canine was already half to his stomach.

«I do look ravishing.» Nellia said as she admired herself in front of the mirror, the dress a perfect fit and the mask excellently complimenting her eyes as she styled her fiery red hair in a side ponytail.
«And these heels should fit in nicely. Although if I trip, I'll probably die.»

Nellia stared at her image for a bit longer. She wasn't used to seeing herself so formally dressed thus she was memorizing the moment, who knew if she'd ever get the chance again.

Yet, she wasn't as cheerful as she had been when she arrived a few minutes ago. Being alone brought out the worst in her, thoughts and feelings she fought every second of every day to suppress. And that's when she heard the front door of the dorm open and someone getting in. In the very same moment, all of herself was flooded by pure childish-like excitement.

Alright, we've gone through this before, just stay calm and don't ask whether she has an imaginary fish. We have to make this one like us, we cannot afford to let our roommate join those who consider us broken.

There was a knock on the door. Nellia almost had to literally hold her mouth closed in order not to reply ''Who's there?''. In her own mind, it would sound hilarious but as she had come to know, not everyone appreciated her humor.

«Hello, am Gracie. I think that we are dormmates.» a voice said, one belonging to a face which was firmly set on a body. Off to a good start she thought.

«Hi. Am Nellia.»

Introduced myself. Now I have to make me interesting while sounding casual. Wasn't that what the book said? Or was it a dream? I'd really love me some ice-cream right now. Her thoughts followed one another in an endless inner monologue. At least she wasn't blurting them out loud.

«I like airplanes. I like anywhere that isn't a proper place. I like in-betweens.»

She took a step closer to the new arrival, a small and cautious step, as if she was approaching something she didn't want to scare away.

«There is a ball tonight. We have to dress up and wear masks and look ravishing. Ravishing is a nice word, I like it. Let's go together, I am a bit afraid of the corridors, some of them get you lost and I'd really hate to be late.»
