Nimbus is a smart, good hearted, whole full guy that has big dreams and a big heart. He values life and is a large lover of animals. He has a curious heart and loves to learn and ask questions. He has lived most of his life under his parents guidance so he can be a little naive when dealing with others. He’s completely honest and often times think others are mostly completely honest as well. He’s careless and trusting of others, especially if those individuals are aiming to be his friends. He doesn’t hold grudges and is mostly incapable of hate. He has a completely optimistic, positive and understanding sort of personality and always knows there is some reasonable way to do something or some rational explanation for everything. Despite being fairly scholarly, he’s still gullible and ignorant of the world and that is mostly due to his low experience with dealing with people.
~Before Birth~
Nimbus’s parents were actually born on a world known as Eden. His mother, Rein Weatherly, was the Queen and his Father, Strom Weatherly, the King of the entire planet and the two were the most revered and beloved pair of the entire world. Similarly to it’s name, the land was a paradise. It was lush with wildlife, resources and endlessly brimming with magic. Eden was a world that was almost entirely comprised of magic. Every quality of the world held some magical basis in its composition. Beings that lived there enjoyed the lavish, secure quality of life supported by magic and their planets near infinite resources. Those born on Eden had everything they could ask for and they lacked any and all complaints regarding their lives.
Long ago, when the World Eater went rampant, the beast threatened to consume their world. Eden attempted, as best as it could, to defend itself, however it could not. His father was, by far, the most powerful magician out of all of Eden and, sacrificing all his and his wife’s power, the two managed to transport themselves randomly away from their world. They had no control over where they were to be transported and they unfortunately could not take anyone other than themselves. The pair appeared in Old Bastion.
In their early youth, the two did everything they could to support the conflict against the World Eater. Both his mother and father took up arms in that plight and fought, with the debilitation of having their magic exhausted away, suffering through pain after pain. Although no where near their peak, the pair were an immeasurable asset during the conflict and devoted all their strength, knowledge, and ability to support the Keybearers. Eventually, their hard work paid off and all powerful Keybears sealed away the daunting World Eater and all was well in the world again.
As weeks went by, the loss of their homeworld wore on the pair. A piece of their hearts had been torn away and there would be no way to ever replace it, no matter how accustomed and acclimatized they became with Old Bastion. The two sought to focus their efforts on improving Old Bastion the best they could. Rein spent a great deal of her time teaching, explaining the complexities of magical theory and Strom did his best to aid the governing bodies all his intellect, experience, and tactical skillfulness so that the next generation would have something to benefit from. Eventually, the two settled down enough that they would have a child.
~Childhood~
Nimbus Weatherly was his name. Having never been to his original homeworld, Old Bastion was always home for young child. He spent the earliest of his earliest days wandering the wilds of the land, though never straying too far from the castle. His mother was his teacher and his father his example. Nimbus loved his parents dearly. They were always there for him, explaining things to him and comforting him whenever they could. They were caring, affectionate, attentive parents. In his early childhood he clung closely to both his parents. If he wasn’t watching his mother attend classes he was trailing after his father as the man got involved in one business after another.
When he hit his late pubescent years he started to recognize certain sensations running through his body. It was like heat sometimes and a chill other times and, often times, it felt like an invigorating surge that was coursing through his body. He didn’t tell his parents outright, figuring it was some normal feeling, however it started to grow. There was an unexplainable urge to dive into this feeling, but he wasn’t sure how. Often, just walking around he’d feel a wave of this alien phenomenon and it would feel a little different each time, but each time he felt it would feel a little stronger. Nimbus wasn’t sure how, but he was giving signs that he was going through this and his mother and father both caught on to them. His mother decided to take full responsibility of explaining and tailoring the young boy on the border of going through puberty.
Nimbus was on his own, sitting in some room by himself in front of a candle. He had right right hand close to the candle. The heat emanating from the candle felt like more than just warmth. It felt like words, feelings, and...power. It felt like strength and invigorating energy. To Nimbus, sitting in front of that candle was like, for a normal child, to be within arms reach of the chemical reaction that ran through the body upon the metabolism of sugar or caffeine. It was unexplainable, yet it was rational. He could tell that it was power rushing from that candle, just as a child could look at a candy bar or cup of soda and imagine the rush, and he could feel it, far beyond what one could do simply looking or touching something to that effect.
His mother smiled and sat beside him, startling the poor boy. She watched the candle a moment before lightly picking up her child’s hand and put it close to the fire. Fearful, Nimbus withdrew his arm and questioned her. She only smiled and, asking him to trust her, placed his hand in the fire.
It didn’t burn. His mother joyfully laughed at the effect as Nimbus played with the fire, rushing his hand through it feeling that unfamiliar rush of power and strength that flooded into his body.
“Magic” She said.
It was magic.
For a couple weeks his mother taught him about magic, however these were lessons specifically tailored to his own nature. He possessed a magical quality that was common on Eden, though an inexplicable anomaly here on Old Bastion. Nimbus was an elemental eater, which meant he was an individual that grew stronger when surrounded by natural elements in their natural, unaffected and purest of forms. She explained the complicated mechanics revolving around this nature and explained the advantages and strengths of someone born with such power.
She also explained the dangers.
For months she taught him lessons. Nimbus had to swear not to use any magic or attempt any magic until all his lessons were completed. He trusted his mother and, despite his growing curiosity, had to comply with her request.
Unfortunately, however, a child’s curiosity can often times be stronger than their willpower. It was when Nimbus was 13 and his parents were off attending business as usual. He had the entire day to himself and completely finished his studies, magical and the rudimentary general ed., so he decided to explore a little ways outside of the castle border. This wasn’t the first time he’d done such, however it was the first time he went so far. He was drawn to a black, smoldering black cloud in the faraway distance. He wanted to see what it was from or what was below it.
Nimbus found, after hours of travelling, a small destroy village with large portion of it on fire. He heard screaming and yelling coming from one part of the land. A man and women both studded in shiny armor with the brightest and largest swords Nimbus had ever seen were outside of it. They were desperately trying to enter, however...They were distracted by something and the flames were rampant. Nimbus didn’t pay too much attention to them when he figured out what the problem was. There were cries of children coming from inside! Hurrying, the young boy ran into a building that was on fire. The fire...Felt amazing.
The flames caressed his body, heating him up and filling him with a euphoric rush that quickened his heart and caused some profound clarity that rushed through his head. He felt strong and fast and powerful! Nimbus felt as if he could crush anything in his way. A white glimmer started to surround him and, as he treaded deeper into the building, it became apparent that his body was glowing. In that rush of strength, as the flames ran rampant all over him, he ran right through the flames. There was a young boy there and an even younger girl there. Both of them had light colored hair and had the smallest of frames. Nimbus went to pick up the boy first, before hesitating. He lightly poked the boy, hoping he wouldn’t burn him, and when he didn’t he snatched the two up and ran for the outside. Half the home collapsed, falling right in his way, and the flames towered at his rear. Sure, Nimbus could walk right out the way he came in, however the two children would surely burn. He didn’t know what to do. He felt a rush of panic filled adrenaline rush through his chest as his mind ran faster than he could articulate his thoughts. Do something! Do something! He continued to shout that to himself, in his head, as the flames crept closer and the cracking and splintering of the rest of the home told him he wouldn’t have long before the three of them were crushed.
“Do something!” He yelled, though it wasn’t to himself. This “magic” that he had had to be able to do something. He read all about it, despite having no practical experience doing such. He knew there was a means for it to accomplish great things...He just didn’t know how! It was useless! The one time he needed it, the only time he needed it, and it wasn’t helping him at all! He felt so frustrated at himself, his inexperience, how he’d rushed in without thinking, how he couldn’t save these kids...At his mother! He wanted it all to just...Work out!
The flames in the building, as if understanding his frustrations, spun around. The flames flew across the room and they ran into his body, driving directly into his core. He felt the immense power as the flames became apart of himself and his body. The children were unharmed all the same and, as the flames assimilated into his body, vanishing, he felt an intoxicating strength. His eyes closed, his breath paused, he relished the power. It was amazing. It felt as if everything wrong about him was rectified and he was...Perfect.
All the flames rushed into his body, leaving the building emptied.
The roof collapsed next, threatening to crush the boy finally. Opening his eyes and releasing one, cool breath, Nimbus set it free. He, with some newfound understanding, released the power he’d taken in from his surroundings.
There was a powerful, hot, fiery explosion that tore apart the remains of the building and blew all the wood, metal, and cinged personal effects dozen of yards away. Those that were spectating were blown backwards. All that was left standing was Nimbus, in the middle of scorched earth, with the two children in his hand and his body glowing a brilliant crimson.
He’d done it! He’d saved them!
As the power started to relax and the glow started to fade, he felt relief come next.
The parents came over, taking their children hastily and asking if the two crying kids were alright. Nimbus was lost a moment. He was lost in some daydream as the sounds started to drown out and it felt like gravity was slowly warping around him. He was having some sensation of vertigo, but it was more extreme than that. It was almost like the world were spiraling. He felt light and hollow. He felt as if he were high on something (not that the young Nimbus could really relate to being high at all).
“Nimbus!”
He heard the words and it snapped him back to reality. He looked over to see his father running over with some others..? Probably. His vision started to turn red before long and he felt a sharp pain hit his chest. He buckled, putting his small hand to his chest and doubling over, watching blood rush from his eyes as tears. It was coming from his nose, ears and the corners of his eyes. As if struck with a hammer, his head started to hurt next. The pain was so bad that it dropped him to the floor.
For a few minutes he felt the pain spread from his chest and head to the rest of his body, paralyzing him. He couldn’t feel his father lift him up or hear the “Are you alright?”. Before long, he was unconscious.
The side effect has many names, however on Eden it was called Overlimit. It was when a mage assimilated raw elements into their bodies at large amounts to greatly increase their strength, magical power, health and mental capacity. There is a large potential for the Overlimit, his mother had explained, however there is a recoil. When it was explained to Nimbus an example with a balloon and sheet of plastic was used. The plastic, his mother told him, represented the body of the user and the balloon the Overlimit effect. She explained that the air she would blow into the balloon is the natural element being assimilated and she blew up the balloon. As she blew up the balloon the plastic sheet that was his body stretched. She explained that stretching the “body” resulted in “tears” and “stress” from the inflation. This would mean one would die after using an Overlimit, because they have pulled in much more than the body is naturally suited to accommodate. Overlimit Damage doesn’t always lead to death, but it almost always leads to critical injuries on the physical and mental body. She then continued to blow up the balloon until it popped. That, she explained, what happened to many of the mages on Eden when they dared to assimilate far too much power...Or power that cannot be assimilated. Lightning is one such element, due to its volatility. There has only been a handful of mages that have ever been able to use lightning based magic on Eden and, out of all Eden’s many generations, only 6 that have beena be able to use ambient lightning as a weapon or for an Overlimit. His father was one of those 6 and it was a skill he used adamantly during the brief loss against the World Eater near 35 years ago at the time.
For 3 days the boy was bedridden and, when he was allowed to leave his room he had to relearn how to walk and use his arms properly. Pain was forever a reminder of what he had done, but slowly it faded away. After about 16 days he was himself again and, when he was, his father decided it was time to teach him how to properly utilize his skills as to prevent such a catastrophe from happening again. Nimbus was hesitant, having endured the suffering of the Overlimit Recoil once, but he trusted his father and, honestly, he yearned for that feeling. That rousing sensation of the magic and the power.
His studies under his father were easier than the ones performed by his mother in that there were no tests, quizzes or hours of readings. However, it was more frustrating because they were practicals. He was given a task and had to figure out how to do that. When dealing with magic that you have hardly any experience with it was like trying to learn to write legibly with limbs he didn’t even know he had. It was always very frustrating and his father was typically quick to laugh at him, but he was encouraging and offered many hints, tricks and tips. His father was an incredible teacher. He was able to explain things that suited exactly how Nimbus was feeling. Nimbus was constantly reminded that his father was once an fantastically mighty mage and lost everything long ago. Nimbus sometimes wondered if his father was sometimes saddened at teaching Nimbus something he’d lost, but he never had the courage to ask his father something so personal for fear of his father saying yes.
A majority of his childhood was spent interacting with his friends, his parents, and focusing on his learnings. He was never truly interested in taking the path of being a Keyblade bearer, thus he never did. However, talk of monsters with wicked powers started to arise and he had to learn more and more about the teachings of the great Master Yuan Lao. At his father’s request, Nimbus would attend studies or receive some tutelage from Master Yuan in the aspect of magic.
The first time Nimbus met Master Yuan it was intimidating. The man was as hard as stone and spoke with a heavy, wise voice. It was hard to form words around the man, as if he were some nefarious villain about to strike Nimbus. Nimbus felt a strong desire to be respectful to this man as his presence alone was able to speak for just how important he was. Master Yuan was powerful, of that Nimbus could tell with a glance. Nimbus wanted to be that powerful. He wasn’t going to be a Keyblade bearer, however he wanted to be an amazing mage. He wanted to be as powerful as Master Yuan, however all with his own devices. He didn’t want Master Yuan to show him how to be strong...No. He would figure it all out. After his lessons with Master Yuan, which were invaluable, Nimbus decided he no longer would take studies after his mother and father. They were very proud.
~Teenage Years~
As he grew into a young man he focused a great deal of his efforts into Fire magic. It was the element he was best able to associate with, not to say that others didn’t interest him. He spent a great deal of time studying the history of Fire magic and Fire magic theory, as finely described in tomes written by his mother. He spent his youth furthering his skills in magic and, when he hit 14, he began using those skills in combat.
The black, shadowy monsters that were mere rumors before had started popping up on the far outskirts of Old Bastion. Nimbus dedicated his efforts and time to supporting a small regiment of warriors and mages that put their lives on the line to protect outermost edge of Old Bastion. It was unfortunate, however, that Old Bastion has a low population. Their efforts often were in vain or their effect too small to truly make an impact on the growing black, sloothy monsters and, due to their low numbers, there were often casualties. Only the Keyblade bearers were able to effectively and proficiently deal with the monsters and this put a large dent in the courage of many of the men and women who tried to fight with their own strength.
Nimbus never gave up, however. He believed in the strength and might of an individual. He was one of the ones that fought the hardest. He strived to destroy these dangerous, dastardly demons and used all the power he had to ensure that no lives were lost. His combat prowess escalated quickly as he gained a considerable amount of actual experience. As years went on he eventually decided to draw back to the castle and provide training and magical support to those that still wished to patrol the borders, but mostly it was due to their considerably low numbers that he was forced to retreat. There just weren’t many that called Old Bastion their home. Many could just take a ship and fly off to some other part of the Cluster and be safe. Not Nimbus thought. This was his home and he wasn’t just going to abandon it. He spent a lot of time trying to figure out just what the monsters were. They were very diverse and they were incredibly tenacious almost as if the people had done something to wrong them willingly.
~Currently~
Nimbus currently seeks to be rid of the black monsters. He’s grown now, having evolved into a talented mage, and wishes to continue his training as a mage while also figuring out the state of the world outside of his own world. He feels unrest rising around him and knows that something big is about to transpire. If something is to happen, he wants to prevent it. Nimbus refuses to lose his home as his parents lost their Eden. As such, he’d prepared to fight on any plane if it means uncovering this sinister darkness that is slowly creeping unto Old Bastion from the outside.
Possesses what is known as Overlimit. This is the power to bolster magical power by some means. Due to his magic type, his Overlimit is by absorbing natural elements, such as Fire and Ice, in their natural, unedited states. He can absorb the nearby fire and ice to bolster his own magic, however there is a limit to how much he can do this for. Without endangering himself, he could absorb fire and ice to double the effectiveness of his spells and, should he desire to triple or quadruple their effectiveness he will critically harm himself. That is the greatest limitations of his assimilation techniques. *A longer definition of Overlimit can also be found in the bio for additional clarification.
He cannot use his Ice Assimilation and Fire Assimilation on enemy spells yet.
