As the strange man escaped the store and the blonde slammed the door closed, Chris let go of the young girl, tugged Tony close to her, and pointed the rifle at the store. More than anything she wanted to wrap her arms around Tony and reassure herself that he was okay, alive, and uninjured. But as she stared down the sights of the rifle at the undead beating themselves against the store front windows, sounds of more undead getting closer, she knew she wouldn't be able to do that for a while.

Another voice jolted Chris out of her thoughts. She spun to face it, gun raised until she saw the scantily dressed woman and her dog. Hesitantly, Chris lowered her gun just a little. No sooner had she lowered the gun than a walker stumbled into view behind the girl. “Move!” Chris shouted, lifting the rifle again, before another girl dropped from a tree above them and landed a blow to the walker with a shovel.

Too much happened at once; she struggled to think and place each of the survivors in her mind, and keep Tony close at the same time. She was failing already. For his part, Tony silently pressed himself against her shoulder. It was a small comfort, and he knew it was all he could do for her in the moment.

“We need to go . . . If we stick together for a while we’ve got a better chance of getting through this.”

Tony and Chris thought the very same. The glass windows would not hold the horde for long, and not a moment after the blonde spoke, the sounds of another herd became too loud to ignore. With one look in the direction of the undead filling the street, diving the town in half like a moving wall of rotting flesh, Chris' stoicism returned.

Her eyes flickered to the next pair of arrivals; two people about her age. She started to take a mental count of everyone they had encountered. The blonde and the little girl, that's two... the man in the cabinet, the woman in blue, the girl with the shovel... and now the newest couple. Seven. Not including herself and Tony. While the blonde was right, there were too many to keep an eye on them all.

Still, they did have to move.

One of the girls – Rena, she called herself – spoke of a third horde at the other end of town, and survivors. Chris began to feel caged. The group started batting ideas around.

“They'll be fine,” she added. “They have each other. We can't risk it.”

As soon as Rena grabbed the woman in blue and pulled, Chris swung the rifle over her shoulders once again and turned to take the blonde woman's hand. She felt responsible for hers and her young companion's life, now, and she'd be damned if she let two bullets go to waste by letting the blonde die. “Tony-- the girl,” she instructed, then took off towards the forest, confident her friend would follow.

Tony nodded, stuffed the crowbar into his belt loop and made to follow Christina with the girl.

The group seemed more interested at the incoming horde of undead, in which Dog just looked at mildly interested. It wasn't that she was totally unafraid of them, but when one lives her life, well things like this just seem like another obstacle. Plus as long as Cat was with her, she would me emotionally stable. Of course this now pretty large group headed out to the forest and away from the horde. Yes, now there was never at least a peaceful moment to say hello anymore.

How depressing.

Cat of course couldn't care less what these people were doing or if they were going to die, but he also wanted to go to the forest. They often preffered it and they knew their way around well after their five year travels before the end of the world. They knew cities way better but this wasn't a city and the buildings were barely worth climbing and traveling on.

So the black haired man walked after his twin before raising his right hand and smacking her upside the head with his fingers. A hiss escaped the brownish blonde boy disguised girl as she glared at him with a pout. He of course ignored it and simply grabbed her by the back collar of her jacket and dragged her along the path toward the forest.

"Dededededede.... No need for dragging bro. Dude your getting zombie guts in my hair. Ouch come on man." Dog hissed quietly to avoid attention as she quickly kept pace with her twin in order to avoid falling and being dragged on the ground like a body bag. Her arms flailed a little in protest but despite the silly behavior, the twins were moving quickly to get away from the incoming horde.

Mercy

Mercy was desperately trying to remain calm, especially as another survivor rounded the corner of the store, she tightened her grip on her bow though didn't lift it as she noticed the young man had his hands up and away from his weapons claiming he came in peace...despite the madness she felt a glimmer of amusement flicker across her face at the comment about flags. It was gone almost as quickly as it had come though as Olivia stepped closer to her, she glanced down at the girl feeling her hand rest atop her own. She shifted her weight curling her bow around the girl as if the sturdy wood would assist in protecting her, she was rather unprepared for the maternal instinct that rose within her conflicting with her knowledge of the young girl beside her. She had demonstrated that she was more than capable of defending herself...but Mercy was unnervingly prepared to protect her as well, she felt responsible for her.

"White flags...cute" Mercy murmured, the side of her lip twitching up in mirth knowing this wasn't the time for humor but such a friendly approach was a rare occurrence as of recently. She couldn't keep up with everyone as it was and now there were more of them. She relaxed her bow string pulling the arrow away from it and sliding it back into her quiver, pulling her bow up and over her head to rest across her back. She smiled as Olivia offered her voice in support for what she had said, though it faded quickly when she realized how severe their situation was becoming.

She listened intently as the girl with the shovel introduced herself and explained about the horde. She couldn't hide the apprehension that entered her expression as Olivia asked if Rena had seen the others, her heart leapt up her throat as she confirmed seeing 3 other survivors across the way a small wave of regret passed over her as she mentioned a woman had been forced to take her life...it couldn't have been Ash, she would never give up that easily, she was more likely to go out fighting, Mercy shook her head steering away from her current thoughts. She felt her eyes drift away from Rena to the houses across from them ignoring the wall of death that was spreading along the road. It meant Ash was alive at least and close by. The hope that had entered her face slipped away however as Rena pointed out how slim a chance it was to get to them. Not impossible though... She turned her eyes on the dark haired woman at her side, her forehead creasing with worry despite the calm deliverance of her opinion it was true they couldn't risk it. She should have put up more of a fight on this subject, but she was afraid at this moment of being left here alone if she did so she stayed quiet.

Besides as much as she wanted to get to Tamashii she felt a small part of her was already tethered to a few of the individuals stood around her..plus Ash would maim her if she put herself in danger like that. Before she could settle her internal dispute the decision was taken from her, Rena begun to yell and push at the girl in the blue dress pointing down the road to the imposing herd of creatures shuffling towards them. Her eyes rested on the blue eyed man they had rescued earlier as he spoke pointing out a path into the forest, her mind begun to whirl in confusion she reached instinctively for Olivia, halting as warm fingers enclosed her other hand she turned her gaze to the dark haired woman, this time she resisted her pull, refusing to move "W-wait" She stuttered in her surprise, glancing at Olivia and the other survivors, she heard the dark haired woman instruct her partner to grab Olivia once he was beside the redhead, Mercy submitted to the other woman's will allowing her to tug her away from the street, she wasn't a huge burden after the initial resistance she trailed only slightly behind the other woman glad for the guidance as they hit the forest path following behind the blue eyed man. She dared to glance over her shoulder as they ran, her eyes searching for Olivia and Tony only returning her gaze forward when she was sure they weren't too far behind.

Luka Blazevic

Four days. Four freakin' days. That's how much Luka's vacation in Los Angeles lasted. After that all hell broke loose. People started turning into undead, those that died too. Survivors were now either hiding or fighting for their lives. Luka had no idea what could have caused this. He was no scientist. But he was damn sure curious. A couple of days ago he managed to get out of L.A. in one piece with the help of a Ford F-150 4x4 truck. Unfortunately the car was low on gas and Luka was forced to abandon it.

He was now in Karn, a very small town with a population that...from what he heard, was less then 500 people. He just finished searching through one of the houses. Unfortunately the place was empty and nothing of importance was in it. Not even water. He desperately needed that as he was running out. The house showed signs of battle. Bullet holes where in the walls, shell casings and dead people where on the floor. Some of them where chewed upon while others were zombies shot in the head.

As he was ready to leave, with a dissapointed look on his face that he found nothing inside this house he grabbed the door handle and opened the door a couple of inches then stopping. Something outside attracted Luka's attention. He closed the door and carefully looked through the window to see what's going on. He saw two groups of people. Both composed of a man and a woman. It seemed that one of the groups was trying to ambush the other that seemed to come out of another house with some newfound supplies.

Luka was not surprised by this at all. It seemes that the end of the world had the habit of transforming people into monsters. Luka saw people killing each other for supplies that's why he believed that this was the case here as well. He was ready to interfere for the group beying ambushed as he grabbed his Beretta M9 from the holster and screwed the suppressor on. After that he slowly made his way out of the house through the back door and with the suppressed Beretta gripped by both his hands he slowly made his way towards the other house, sticking to the walls and not making a sound. What he wanted to do was surprise the older man from behind and force him to come out of hiding.

However his plan was spoiled as he heard undead growls coming from the street. As he lied on the ground, Luka started crawling towards the front of the house and using the grass as cover he raised his head a little and looked down the street. What he saw was not good at all. A horde of undead was coming right at them. The hispanic woman freaked out and ran off. At this very moment they were all in danger including himself. Luka stood hidden in the grass as he began thinking what to do now. "Shit!" He said while slamming his left fist on the ground.

" idiots and fools " The old man looked at the two " you brought the dead with you, brilliant move Jeremy.. Thanks ".

If these two fools that came in didn't care about their lives, John was certainly attached to his.

Overtly looking out the front window to see for the first time, some of these things running, then seeing some guy trying to hid in several month over grown grass that clearly wasn't going to save him. " Hey, you left one of your people outside, the one with a Beretta M9 sporting a flash or noise suppressor that is crawling out on the front lawn. You might want to save him before those things eat him".

John grabbed four of the hurricane lights that once flanked the windows. Ignoring the pair John went to the hallway looked up, then opened the access panel to the attic jumped up then lifted himself into the hot, dark attic with no light. John didn't need light for this was second nature to him as he trained in Mount Operations. With his hands he felt the "trestle" and picked his triangle path to use and made his way, it would take the others if they dared to follow in the darkness time to figure out how to maneuver without falling through the drywall and down below. As john used a cross "I" bean to traverse to a corner he used class "A" material to make his kindling from the fiber glass.

Using the "I" beam dash he went about 6-10 ft, used his butt of the rifle to open up a panel, then fixed his bayonet to "pry" the rest. Smoke would follow the path of least resistance and it wouldn't take long for that to happen. After his opening was made enough for him to get through, john now had access to the roof now.

Seeing a tan box that looked like a house alarm with a blue light, john smiled to himself. I a person had a house alarm in the country, that same person might have car alarm.

John looked into his haversack and grabbed a can of potted meats, threw it at the car breaking the glass. It worked but maybe it worked a little too well but that was ok in John's book as more things began to move this way. It was like a herd of dead that began more active as sounds lured them. The ones that moved fast were the one that john was concerned about and with reason to be concerned.

Several figures broke away from the outskirts of the town, maybe they lead the "herd" to this small sleepy town but John wouldn't know that answer to his question. The small group of several people ran westward through a open field were fleeing at least 8 "fast movers". John used the football field method of ranged attack and figured that those fast movers were most likely running at 6 minute mile pace. For john that wasn't his concern, his concern was those that were running were "obese". These creatures didn't need to rest and were tireless in the pursuit their quarry as he watch in horror as they began to close the gap.

Using the butt of his M-14 the latch gave way to the old Vietnam era weapon's way and opened. John looked for the "hot" red wire and crossed it with others one at a time till a ear piecing "shrill" with a flashing strobe light turn on.

"crap!" john pulled from his collar his shooting ear buds to soften the sounds that was still deafening. Turning his attention back to the unknown group fleeing the area three of the eight broke off and started to make a "bee" line to the noise, two then were shot down as it looked that handguns were used as several stopped to help one of their own that might have twisted an ankle running in the broken field. John scoped the last three as they closed the gap and could see that these things were going down, john moved to a good prone shooting position, unfolded his bipod and rested on the roof.

moving his ball cap backwards, John sighted his targets...

He collected his thoughts back to Special Operations Target Interdiction Course (SOTIC), 7.62mm bullet at 2600fps, sea level and 60 deg F, 78% RH. John was about 600yd prone and using iron sights, 12.8 MOA of correction he hoped, John used a 15 MOA with the front sight (up), and down 2 MOA (8 clicks) with the rear.

The first round landed long, John quickly made his correction and fired his second round that fell short this time, another round down range was his third and it finally struck the chest, john released his breath and fired the fourth shot finally striking the creature in the head. The last two were dropped less than 100 meter from the wounded man and this companions that were out of ammo he guessed.

Getting up and looking around he could see that the other were making their way to the safety of the Forrest. The house alarm went back into reset mode and stopped broadcasting to john's delight. But he still moved up to the peak of the roof to lay down suppression fire for others that were trying to leave the area. Now that Left john and all the dead around him with no way out. For minutes he paced back and forth on the roof till a kissing sound was heard, crap, someone is shooting at me. John began to find cover and scope the area by quadrants, then saw in the distance a station wagon flashing it's lights, and sounding its horn to lure away the dead. Whoever those life that he help didn't go unnoticed and they were returning the favor. Holding his weapon overhead pointing backward he told them "Thanks".

John ducked down and simply waited for the help to do their thing.

Imagine that.... someone helped... even though they still shot at you john, still helpful. He nodded to himself with a laugh.

John waited for thirty minutes by his watch before climbing down and making his way and looking towards the forrest. The way that he and maria came in was the way that the dead left, so he figure that the forest was a better idea right now. His farm was off the road and safe, for he had no fear of raiders with a yard of junk and debris laying about. John made his way back to his vehicle and began to follow the road that paralleled the forest.

She got a response in a form of a yes, a store full of the undead. What were they doing in their shopping? The fact she could see them gathering near the store entrance was enough to make her turn round and just moving on but then something happened.

Like a blur things happened and rather quickly at that as she had no time to think. She also had no time to make snap decisions as something happened before she could react properly. Out of nowhere she heard a voice.

Female Voice 1 “Duck,”

She did not turn to see who it was; she just ducked like the voice said and before she knew it she could hear the sounds of one beating a corpse to a bloody pulp. She was soon standing up straight as she turned to see a woman behind her. With a shovel in her hands Kaylah wondered why she came from though she had no real time to react as something else happened.

Second Mystery Voice "Um, I come in peace.. I think that is what one is suppose to say when you don't have any white flags eh?"

Another two people appeared, in retrospect she wondered how she missed some of these people as she arrived here, were they 10 minutes behind or did they come in a different direction. She was silent as she overheard some chatter between the two people behind her making her turn once more to face them.

Female Voice 2 "We should go quickly. Those undead are going to notice us soon."

Kaylah soon looked to the left and then the right before noticing the horde of zombies. ‘Holy shit on a cracker’ she thought to herself. Today was one of the weirdest days she has had in a long time as survivors jumped out of thin air, zombies were apparently shopping and two other people turned up without her noticing them. A few other things were said before hearing these words.

Female Voice 3 "Go. Go. Go."

Suddenly Kaylah felt someone grab her hand like she was a kid at pre-school. Though the thing running through her mind at that time; she wondered if a scratched or bruise from the sudden hand grab had occurred. A sense of fear and uncertainly washed over her, it seemed to of scared her more than the undead. Once again she could not really get her bearings as she was pulled onwards.

Male Voice "The forest,"

Male Voice "That way,"

Male Voice "The path is clear."

The dog was up front all of a sudden like a guard dog, the forest up ahead seemed empty as she began to sniff the place out. She was surprisingly calm as she moved point to point where she would turn her head and watch the human survivors come closer before dashing off to smell and sniff the place out. The dogs wet nose kept sniffing and collecting scents like dogs did. She of course also did a pee on the biggest tree she could see. This was her tree now though the chances of another dog taking it was low, undead dogs did not pee did they?

Group 2, Remy's Group - Characters it affects (Ash, John,Luka)

"Idiots and fools. You brought the dead with you, brilliant move. Thanks."

Remy took a deep breath, looking and glaring at the old man. "What the Hell is your problem, Gramps?" He shook his head, started to look around the small living room they were in to see if there was a way to help them out of this problem. "You and that woman were the ones who decided to ambush us and stop us from getting to where we needed to go. We led nothing here. Those things are everywhere, so what do you expect?" He was not usually so sharp, but something about this man rubbed him the wrong way. He made a note to keep an eye on him; he probably was not against killing other survivors if it suited his needs.

“Roof access? We can move along get ahead of the horde...”

He glanced over at Ash and nodded. He did not know her at all, but felt like she could be trusted to scope out the upstairs. He left her to that and went into the kitchen, coming out a couple minutes later empty handed. No food, nothing. The place must been hit a while ago.

"Hey, you left one of your people outside.... You might want to save him before those things eat him".

Sure enough, the old man was right, well half right. "He's not one of ours..." He nodded upstairs. "Anyways, I only met up with her and a couple others about an hour ago. Besides you're one to talk. Your partner just ate a bullet from the sounds of it and you seem to have no remorse." Crazy old coot.

It was unreal how fast things were moving. He wondered if the little girl and Mercy were okay.

Before the old man could do his stuff, Remy cracked open the front door and whistled as low as he possibly could, mimicking the sound of a common bird found in these areas. Hopefully, the undead would not be interested in the sound. He waved his arm urgently at the man in the grass, mouthing 'hurry get in here if you want to live.' The path to the front door was clear, but it would not be for long.
Soon all Hell was breaking out. The old man set off several car alarms, or at least the sound suggested so. He kept the door open for the new guy and as soon as he entered the house, he was going to explain their situation and go find Ash upstairs.
Upstairs, he looked around for Ash. Finding her in one of the rooms, he whistled again to get her attention, not wanting the girl to think he was one of the undead and startle her.

"The old man has set off a lot of alarms. The undead are following the sound." He pointed out a window toward the center of town where most of the cars the town owned were sitting and going off. The undead were coming out of every nook and cranny and heading toward the sound.

"We have about 10 minutes before the undead realize there is no food where the sound is leading them. The old man already left, heading for the forest, no doubt. Maybe he saw the others going that way." He looked around for the new man.

"No time for proper introductions." He pointed at himself. "Remy." He pointed at Ash. "Ash."

He pulled out his wrinkled old map that his boss had given him a long time ago. It was hand drawn map of California and had places on it that were not on normal maps. His boss had been a map collector and collected them every chance he got. They did come in handy in their police work.

“There's a farm about a mile from town.” He squinted to read the small print written on the map. There were several points on the map where his boss had written trivia that he thought would be interesting. The one for Karn just talked about the old farm and farmhouse that had been owned by the Mathew's family since the small town first came about.

((Sorry, I had to nudge Luka a little to get us all together, though now John is off by himself again. Oh well.))

Tamashii

Tamashii hadn’t heard the older man spit names at them, by then she had crossed the room she did however hesitate her ascent as she heard him mention another person. “Remy, saving people is your department” She spoke loud enough for him to hear but not loud enough to create noticeable noise outside of these walls. She however couldn’t focus on the newcomer as she ascended the stairs recklessly, moving into one of the rooms she carefully scanned every dark corner, cupboard and even under the bed before moving over to the window to gingerly look out of it into the street below, dread spreading through her as she realized how many of the creatures had moved into the road they were moving through like a herd of cattle. As she was studying the dirty mass of undead she noticed something rather colourful and shiny on the opposite side of the road, her eyes lifted automatically focusing on the flash of blue.

Her pulse quickened it may possibly be survivors she couldn’t be sure, it was hard to see from where she was stood she could however see the group of figures move away from the street into the woods. As the house alarm went off she practically hit the deck, ducking away from the mirror and slamming her hands over her ears hissing in distaste as the high pitched screech pierced her ears. “What the hell?!” She growled, lifting her hands away from her ears a few moments later as the shrill noise stopped, though her ears were still ringing. “Thank-Argh!” She exclaimed as the car alarms begun squealing in the street below, she got to her feet quickly glad the car alarms weren’t nearly as shrill as the house alarm had been

. Her heart crashed against her ribs as a low bird call echoed around the room, although she knew it didn’t sound the same for a moment she allowed herself to believe Mercy had been the one signalling her. She couldn’t stop the disappointment from seeping into her expression as Remy edged into the room, she lowered her knife watching him with guarded eyes especially as he seemed to be with someone. “I noticed” She commented, looking out into the street as he pointed before moving towards him.

“What did you expect? Survival comes first now days” She pointed out to him coldly, as she drew up beside him making sure the newcomer was in front of her where she could see him. Her eyes darted across the map, ignoring the trivia but focusing on the locations. “I think I saw a group of survivors across the way, they headed up into the forest” She told him, placing her finger on the small town they were in. “The chances of them coming across this farm are pretty high...perhaps the others are with them” Tamashii couldn't withhold the hope that clung to her voice as she retracted her hand and moved over to the window. “These rooftops are slanted but we should be able to move along them, if we drop off the side to the right we can sprint across the street whilst they’re distracted by the alarms” She told them both, lifting the window and sliding through it the crackle of tiles as she stood up, edging her way along the roof to the edge. Once there all she needed to do was jump down and sprint across the gap between the undead creatures...

Luka Blazevic

As he was sitting in the grass, hopefully the undead wouldn't see him, Luka could hear the old man scream..."Idiots and fools. You brought the dead with you, brilliant move. Thanks." Luka nodded his head in dissaproval as to what the old man said. "This guy has issues!" Said Luka as he risen his head a little as he looked at the advancing zombies. "I guess the outbreak got to him. Poor man!" He continued. Then he heard the old man say again..."Hey, you left one of your people outside.... You might want to save him before those things eat him." Luka became very upset at this remark. He felt like going there an breaking his damn face, but he wasn't a violent man plus this was a bad time. He promised to himself that he will keep a watchful eye on that hobo just in case.

Then he watched as the younger guy opening the door of the house in front of him and waving his hand at him and saying..."Hurry get in here if you want to live." Luka hesitated for a few moments. The road was clear but not for long as the undead were close. He rised up on his feet and made a run for it as he got inside the house. For the moment he had no choice. He had to trust these people. Hopefully he wouldn't end up stabbed in the back. Especially since he had quite a few supplies in his backpack, and a few weapons. He climbed the stairs with the others as the old man set off some alarms and the undead started following them.

Then Luka saw the younger man turning towards him. "No time for proper introductions." He said as he introduced himself as Remy and the woman as Ash. Luka looked at both of them while breathing fast. "Luka!" He said with his hard croatian accent as he introduced himself. Then he looked at the old map that Remy pulled out as he pointed towards a farmhouse located somewhere about a mile away from this town. "I don't know about you two but that farmhouse looks like a good idea!" He said as he unscrewed the suppressor from his M9 putting it in a pocket and the gun in the holster.

Rena, Olivia and Lloyd

The way was quick and the way was mostly void of undead. As they half ran, half power walked, Lloyd made his introductions and explained where they should head. His name was Lloyd Mathews. He was a young man in his twenties and lived at the Mathews Farmhouse a mile away from the town of Karn. He explained how he and a group of survivors were living at the farm ever since the outbreak started, living off the land and the large supply of items his father always kept on hand for emergencies.

"Though he never imagined an emergency such as this," Lloyd told the group.

The supplies came in handy all the same. His father had been on of the first of Lloyd's family to die. Lloyd did not elaborate as how he died or how the rest of his family soon followed. He did tell them that soon the farmhouse became full of travelers and villagers who knew of the farmhouse. It was fine living for a time, but somehow one of the fences broke. There had been no time to inspect the fence to find out why it broke, because the undead were on the property before anyone had realized it. A lot of their people were attacked. In a panic, Lloyd and the others still alive ran for it, hoping to make it to somewhere safe.

"Long story short," Lloyd told the group, "I'm the only one who made it. I ran out of ammo and hid in that store case. If not for you guys, I would be gone."
Olivia was in some guy's arms. The woman had told him to look out for her, but she did not like a strange man touching her. She had her fair share of strangers and their potential danger. She looked around, hoping Mercy would come to her side again, but she was being led around by the woman. Olivia pulled her arm out of the man's grasp and looked up at him as they made their way through the forest. He looked normal enough, but it was hard to judge who was normal and who was mental. A memory was trying to force it's way into her head, almost making her walk into a tree.

"No..." Olivia whispered. 'I do not want to think about this again,' she thought.

Olivia glanced back at the large backpack on her back. Her doll, the purse and all of Melissa's clothing were still inside. She had never found the group of people she had been with at that time. Maybe they were still alive? She hoped so. She looked at the man again and bit her lower lip.

"I can walk on my own, thanks though. It's better for both of us to have use of our hands free, don't you think."
They came to the cornfield. It was massive. Olivia looked at it in awe, imagining all the corn on the cob feasts she could be having soon. No sooner had she started to imagine all the dishes that corn could go in, did something stumble from behind the tree and head toward the unsuspecting group.

Rena was the first to notice. She was quick with her shovel, having used it as her main weapon since she left her ballet studio when this all started. The first swing did not kill the undead. She kicked him in the chest with her pointe shoe and bashed it on the head again when it fell to the ground.

"Ballerina Girl, the killer of the undead," Olivia joked, trying to make light of the situation. "I hope that was the only one." She looked at the cornfield. "Are we really going through there? It will be like the blind leading the blind!"

"I've been doing this ever since I was old enough to walk," Lloyd assured. "I know the way, just follow my voice. Hold hands if that makes you feel more comfortable."

Rena offered Olivia her hand and she took it.
There had been some screaming and sounds of fighting as they made it through the cornfield, but Olivia and Rena did not face any undead.

"Everyone okay?" Rena asked. Someone asked that after each fight and it seemed everyone was okay though nobody would truly be able to know until they got to the other side. With all the adrenaline, someone might not realize they were bitten.

"Hold up, the fence is almost within touching distance. I can see some undead." Lloyd said in a whisper, loud enough for only Olivia and Rena who was right behind him. They passed the message along and one by one everyone knew to stop moving forward.

Olivia pulled Rena up toward Lloyd. She parted the corn and looked toward the fence and the farmhouse. It was very impressive, and scary. There were undead everywhere, but not as many as she had been imagining. The farmhouse was made from brown wood, and seemed to be at least three stories high, maybe more if it had a basement. There was a large pond on he grounds and nearby that there was a well and a water pump. Behind the farmhouse, she could see some crops that were in full bloom, though she could not tell what was being grown.

Closest to them, there were six undead shambling by the fence near where they were. She wondered how the fence got broken, but did not have to wonder for long when she noticed the true problem had not been a break at all. Someone had left open what looked like a gate.

"Who would have done that?" Olivia whispered, seeing Lloyd notice it the same time she had. He shook his head, seeming at a loss for words.

"It's a gate that gives us easy access to the cornfield," Lloyd muttered. "Had to be an accident. Just had to."

"Okay long range melee up front," Rena said, trying to get the girl with the bow's attention. "We need to pick some of these guys off before we venture any further into the property."
Remy

With Luka and Ash in tow, Remy helped them track the other group of people toward the woods. He was currently crouched in front of the wooden entrance looking at a footprint in the dirt. It didn't take a rocket scientist to know they were on the right track. The footprint was child size or from a woman with very small feet. He stood up and nodded at the other two.

"Quietly, this way," Remy said. "Be careful."

Their trail was easy to follow once they got in the woods. There were broken twigs, footprints and the most helpful clue... a trail of dead bodies. The bodies were few in numbers and Remy was glad the group had not came across too much trouble. He would enjoy meeting up with them and being able to catch his barrings again. It had been a while since he was part of a group. It was hard to tell who could be trusted, but sometimes he knew that the risk had to be taken.

"The cornfield should be there. It was on the map."

Sure enough, they stumbled upon the cornfield. "Oh look, somebody left us a path of broken corn stalks."

Hopefully they were far enough behind the others that the two groups would not come upon each other and think the other group was undead. Remy winced at the thought.

"Go slowly, keep voices low, try not to make any unneeded noise. I'll whistle, follow it." He went first, crouching low as possible. After every few feet, he whistled to show his position to the other two. There was no undead attacks, but he did trip over a couple bodies. The first group had been busy.

Pausing when the blonde woman resisted her, Christina began to let go. Fear shot straight to her chest. “Sorry,” she whispered absent-mindedly. She wasn't about to force anyone along with her, neither was Tony, but she was reluctant to let this woman get stuck behind with the infected so close by. As soon as she turned back to Chris, they ran out of the town and immediately onto a dirt road. With the woman tethered to her, and the girl to Tony, she felt the tiniest bit more confident about their survival.

If she imagined the creatures were flames, she could bring herself back to before the outbreak, when she and her team coursed through burning apartment buildings. She developed a great deal of muscle and endurance as a firefighter, but her legs still ached from days spent running and avoiding sleep. She looked back at the group.

Eight. All alive. Keep them that way.

As soon as the girl looked uncomfortable, Tony moved away. He grasped the revolver tightly as the group began to slow down, nodding when the girl spoke to him. When they couldn't hear the undead any more, Chris slowed down and let go of the blonde. The moment she stopped running, the ache in her legs increased. Stumbling, she winced, until Tony's hands came to her side and supported her.

They came upon the cornfield as Christina's legs began to buckle. She wasn't sure if she liked the idea of a potentially overrun farm, but she knew she wouldn't last very much longer if they had to keep going on foot. Following Rena and the others at the back of the group, she struggled through the dense crops with Tony's help, acutely aware of their increased vulnerability inside the tall corn.

Behind them, something crept out of the corn; Chris leaned back on Tony and struck out with her baton three times before it finally fell. Along the trail of survivors, there were more shouts and sounds of fighting as they inched through the cornfield. After what seemed like hours, a message passed through the group. The fence was close, but so were the undead.

Chris and Tony stopped and listened; they couldn't see ahead of the seven other survivors. The conversation was their only means of learning how many undead lurked in the farm. “Okay long rangers up front. We need to pick some of these guys off before we venture any further into the property.”

Firing a rifle now would be just as dangerous as in the town, but Chris stood as straight as she could manage and pulled the rifle down to her hands. It never hurt to be safe. Tony started to protest, but she quietened him.

Silently the twins followed, Cat taking the lead as Dog followed close behind as she looked around for any undead. As they entered the cornfield, they moved quickly and silently. Cat showing no hesitation as he pulled out his metal pipe from his back and grasped it firmly in his right hand. He took front while Dog held back to make sure nothing snuck up on them. Cat was quietly searching for undead to kill, itching to rip another life apart, even if it was nothing more than a shambling corpse.

It wasn't a surprise when two undead shambled their way into view, but the iron pipe swung to the side of their heads in a fluid motion. Cat instantly reacting and striking them again, slamming the tip of the pipe in one's skull and punching the other on top of its head with his left hand. Dog quickly took out her metal pipe and strikes one as well, bashing in the skull until it moved no longer.

After the corpses heads were nothing but mush, the two continued on. When they reached near the others where the fence was in view. Cat was about to just step out to confront the undead, but Dog managed to grab the back of his jacket and somewhat hold him there. One was one thing, but possibly a whole farmhouse infested with undead was too much trouble to just walk in and smash them to bits.

Better to let these survivors plan it out.

Mercy

Mercy was panting heavily by the time the group finally seemed to outrun the undead creatures, well for now. She glanced at the dark haired woman as she released her, her legs were on fire but it was nothing compared to the pain snaking its way through her chest. “Thank you” She breathed with difficulty although seeing the other woman stumble she lurched forward to help her but Tony was already by her side, feeling stupidly intrusive she backed away hastily turning her head to look for Olivia pressing her palm against her chest as if the simple action would ease her discomfort. Please...please not now... She silently pleaded, her quickened pulse thudded in her ears as she stood there trembling before moving over to the familiar redhead.

By the time they’d reached the cornfields her legs felt like lead weights and the pain in her chest had lessened to a more bearable ache. She flinched into a defensive stance as the undead creature ran towards them but Rena was quick off the bat and had already taken a shovel to its face before the blonde could even take a step forward, she exhaled in relief as no more immediately followed it. Her mouth twisting up into a smile at Olivia’s attempt to lighten the mood, if she could have spared the oxygen she probably would have chuckled. She had to agree though she really didn’t like the idea of traversing the cornfield, why couldn’t they go round? She chewed her lip anxiously as Lloyd told them to just follow his voice, she watched Olivia take Rena’s hand and disappear between the plants already feeling uneasy about the situation. Come on, you can do this...stay aware of everything...don’t think about it She slid between the tall beams twirling the arrow between her fingers until she had perfectly poised to gouge a creatures eye out should it com towards her, she was slightly ahead of Tony -she was sure that’s what he had been called- and the dark haired woman that had saved her...twice now. That’s going to be a hard debt to repay She didn’t think she’d ever been so aware of her surroundings in her life as she moved through the towering corn.

Ok, so breathing remaining calm-SUGAR HONEY ICE TEA! She was lucky she only screamed it in her head as an undead creature lurched between her and the couple (Chris and Tony) next to her, it was side on to her heading straight for them although they looked busy already. She pinged forward ducking to the left she drove her arrow straight into the creatures ear, the momentum took the pair of them to the ground straight out of the other survivors way. Maybe a little easier than anticipated... Mercy got to her feet quickly retracting the arrow from the creatures head as she did grimacing as she wiped more zombie innards onto her filthy jeans. ...eurgh I need a bath and clean clothes this is beyond disgusting These thoughts kept her calm as she managed to keep up to the others without any further incident. Upon receiving the message about the fence she stood just to the left of the group as they ground to a halt glancing around them trying to stay aware of her surroundings,

"Okay long rangers up front. We need to pick some of these guys off before we venture any further into the property"

She looked over at Rena who seemed to be trying to grab her attention and pulled her bow over her head, catching the dark haired woman pull her rifle from her shoulder she shifted closer to her and Tony. “I’ve got this one” She murmured, glancing down at the rifle in the woman’s hands. “Please don’t use that...” She spoke softly, she didn’t want to seem bossy but she was petrified one shot from that rifle would make the cornfield spring to life, all she could do was hope the woman heard her. She moved over to Rena, Olivia and Lloyd carefully peeking through the corn at the undead, a small sigh passing her lips. “6...I’ve only got 7 arrows left” She murmured, reaching over her shoulder to count them quickly to make sure she was correct, with an annoyed click of her tongue she slid an arrow into her bow having to shuffle away and to the left of the trio she used her foot to hold the corn aside, delicately poking her elbow out as she pulled the string taut taking aim and releasing as she exhaled the arrow soared through the air embedding in one of the creatures eye sockets.

Her hand darted up to the quiver pulling another arrow followed by another, a few minutes later 4 of the six were down. Mercy was following the fifth, string taut blue eyes focused on the creatures jerking movements, however by this point her arms were about ready to give out, each shot had to be perfect and it took time and patience to hit the right spot. Sweat trickled down the side of her face as her drawing arm begun to shake, she lined the shot up and released the arrow, which flew towards the fifth creature embedding into the side of its neck uselessly, that was her penultimate arrow she'd missed the 3rd creature completely on her first shot. “Oh fuc-dging Nora” Mercy hissed in annoyance, she caught herself before swearing regardless of the situation she wasn’t about to swear in front of a 13 year old, the apocalypse could sod off if that’s what it wanted. “Come on...there’s only two left” She grumbled, pushing past Lloyd she slunk close to the fence holding her last arrow tightly between her fingers her bow poised to batter anything that jumped at her as she made her way towards the gate, ignoring the moans of the creatures on the other side.

Tamashii

Tamashii was doing remarkably well at following instructions she'd become a lot less irritable once Remy had shown that he was very good tracking, as soon as he'd got the three of them on the same path as the group of survivors she had seen from the window she had become calmer in herself. Keeping Luka just slightly in front of her as she moved, she held her combat dagger tightly in her hand chocolate brown eyes constantly on the lookout for trouble as they moved, she kept up with the two men with ease refusing to allow her body to stop she had barely slept the last few days...Mercy and her hadn't been very lucky in finding places to rest the last few nights. Being the overprotective sibling Tamashii barely slept anyway, it was beginning to get to her after all she was only human.

"We're definitely on the right track" Tamashii commented as they moved past the dead bodies, she jogged closer to Remy just as they reached the cornfield, her jaw tightening at the sight before them. "Why would you willingly go in there?" She muttered, her forehead creasing into a frown she did not like the idea of going in there as well they would be practically blind. "Are you kidding me?" She grumbled as Remy crouched low and crept forward into the cornfield. "Bloody idiot" She muttered under her breath, more so talking about herself as she edged forward following him once he had whistled a signal she kept Luka in her sight as best as she could, very much aware of her surroundings as she carefully picked her way through the broken stems. Survival overriding her desire to reach her lost companion, she knew flying in unannounced was a sure way to get a bullet between the eyes.

The stake bodied truck came to a rest a bit off the road and was driven in backwards, the truck was able to move forwards and not stuck. Next John took the time to camo net the truck but not until he disabled it in two places. Under the netting he made a reload for ammo, water and recheck his "butt pack" that held his MREs as he was reflecting that noise attracted the dead. John's next question was how well could they see?.

John stripped down to his skivies and redressed in his "Ghillie suit" and took the form of a shambling mound with a redressed rifle in various colors of earth.

Now to find a safe spot to hide in and maybe get some sleep too, if I'm lucky he thought to himself as he made his way into the heavy forest. He could do much but make noise as he made his way to the edge but once he got closer to the edge, he began to scan with his scope. " Damn it ... really?. More dead people?, crap " John told himself as he continued to scan the area and listen. The dead weren't trying to be stealthy and the dense woods assisted with mobility issues so john had a method of not being surprised. John did have to move at least thrice do to the dead close to the edge.

The first time that a dead woman passed by he thought that he would be seen but as she passed but his camouflage and john chuckled in his mind " Stupid dead ". As if on cue, the dead woman turned and sniffed the air, like she was a dog. The dead woman was dressed as a postal clerk with a wound to her leg and that was all that john could see. John wanted to bolt deeper in the woods but he kept telling himself that it wasn't possible for a human to smell another human being that far away. No I just can't buy that he was telling himself. It didn't matter what John thought that dead woman could or couldn't do, she was coming closer and the woman made a "growling noise". This was maybe a "signal" to other dead that "prey" was in the area, but with no air in the chest.. how could she make noise?.

"Move soldier!" that was what john's brain told him to do. "Run away!". Run away he did and leading three maybe four into the deeper part of the woods several times. John didn't have to believe in science but the dead could smell him. They mind not see him as "food" but they knew when "prey" was in the area for sure. After two more tries and alot of frustration, john got relief in the form of others near a gate.

He could come from behind because the noise that he would make going through the dense forest would give him away, so he watched from a distance till he could "trail behind them" and try flanking to keep "eyes on this group". John low crawled near the edge so that he was at least closer to the group and within listening range that fell into normal talking range.

Too may of them and john watched as one male was obviously brutal with his melee weapon. Damn, that is one big ass group he thought to himself. Even the women were fight and holding their own which --

"Okay long rangers up front. We need to pick some of these guys off before we venture any further into the property" was heard.

One woman shot several and unknowingly fired near john's cover as the dead creature landed right near to him about 12-15 ft away with an arrow in it's head. They were trying to "sniff" john out john thought as the group continued to drop the dead one by one. That is the reason why or maybe because the size of this group?. John didn't know that answer but he did have alot of questions. Silently John was "cheering them onward", yes take them out, alright another one down that makes four....

John figured that they would go for the house and he would go for the barn and get up in the loft before someone would see him... he hoped.

There was little to no room of protest to be heard as one of the women took out four of the six undead roaming the fence. At that point, there was little holding Cat back now as he instantly moved foreword. There was little sneaking involved in his quick movement yet his footsteps still remained somewhat quiet minus he light crunching of grass beneath his powerful steps. If Dog had to describe him, he would be like a lion. A big black lion that viciously charged at his prey and tore them apart.

Quickly the tall brown haired twin followed, but she tried to be more sneaky do to having the heavier load and heavier steps. Stil, her rusty brown eyes watched as the tall black haired twin drew his pipe and smashed it against one of the zombie's skulls. It groaned, stumbling a little from the strike before making a desperate grab for the man. With no fear or hesitation, Cat brought a fist down against the undead's skull before swinging the pipe against the second.

His expression was the same cold and emotionless mask, he even seemed a little bored. Zombie's had little entertainment when killing them. They did not scream, beg, plead, or give their honest thoughts when dying unlike living people. They were just shambling corpses with little life that was almost not worth killing. Utterly boring. Still, the tall man moved away the second zombie's desperate grasp and bashed the skull with the pipe once more.

Dog quickly caught up, stabbing the zombie on the ground with the end of her pipe to make sure it would not get up again. With a huge sigh of relief, she looked around cautiously for any surprise attacks from other undead or even violent people. "Geez did you have to run in like that? You crazy bro." she muttered as she glared at the taller twin.

Cat merely tapped the metal pipe against his shoulder nonchalantly before looking at his twin as she complained. A few heartbeats later, he swept his leg against hers, causing her to tumble foreword. Just before she face planted into one of the dead zombie's smashed skull, Cat grabbed the bag on her back causing her to stop face to face to the corpse.

Rusty eyes widening, the brown haired boyish girl flailed a little and hissed. "Dededededede... Okay okay sorry.." Dog hissed quietly before making a small 'meep' sound as her brother tossed her to the side before moving on.

Grumbling she got up, brushed herself off before following him to the others. Better to somewhat know where they were going before charging any further onto unknown territory.

Her legs trembled after only a minute standing upright without Tony's support. “Not planning on it,” she replied to the blonde – whose name she really needed to get at some point – and squeezed the barrel of the rifle to alleviate some of the pain. “Just in case,” she added, mostly for herself. She watched, impressed, as the woman shot arrow after arrow into the farm. One by one the walkers fell.

Of course Chris expected the woman to be able to use the bow, even if she didn't doubt some idiots would pick up a bow and try to survive with it. From the get-go, the woman seemed to know what she was doing. Still, Chris exchanged a look with Tony, then pulled the rifle back onto her shoulders and took the baton out of her belt.

“Come on, there's only two left.”

The archer stepped towards the fence, and Chris followed with Tony. He kept close, hands hovering at her sides should she stumble again. Purely because he'd known her almost all his life, he saw how hard she worked to look like she was okay. As soon as they secured the farm, he planned on ordering her to rest. It probably wouldn't work, and he was terrible at ordering anyone to do anything, but it was worth trying.

Chris and Tony stepped onto the farm ground after two of the other survivors to clear a path. The pair ahead of them quickly dispatched the remaining visible walkers. Baton at her side, Chris walked – stiffly, trying to disguise her pain – some few paces into the farm before motioning the others to follow. “We need to sweep the area, and close that gate. There could be lurkers inside.”

The vast farm included not only a farmhouse, but a barn, crops... multiple places for lurkers to hide and wait. Tony turned in slow circles, surveying all he could see. He spoke quietly, but just loud enough to be heard by the group. “As much as I don't want to... if we split up, we can get it all done faster...” He looked back at the others for their approval. Christina gave a firm nod.

The group of survivors were soon in front of a cornfield though that did not last as they went into it. The dog itself was happy to do so and dashed through the cornfield checking out to see if any undead where present. Somewhere and certain survivors had to deal with them as the dog ran circles around some of them before running back to Kaylah who at this point was not in the cornfield yet.

The woman in blue soon pushed herself into the cornfield and followed the closet person though she could not really see them but could hear them beating an undead to a permanent death. Along the way she grabbed some corn and put it in her backpack for later use. She feared that an undead would come out of nowhere and bite her or something as she did. The thought made her kind of nervous though the thought soon went when she got closer and heard something, sounded like a course of action. She heard other people beating down any undead close enough to them.

"Okay long rangers up front. We need to pick some of these guys off before we venture any further into the property"

Kaylah was soon at the front though to the left of the people presently at the front already. She watched as she saw one of the other survives slowly pick off a few infected, she was really good as well. After four went down she watched as the fifth undead take an arrow to the neck. In some way she really wanted to see a certain arrow go into a certain body part. She then said to herself quietly.

Kaylah: “I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.”

She hoped no one heard that though she soon shook that thought out of her head. Video game memes were the last thing to think about at this time. Kaylah’s soon saw two survivors, one bashed in the skulls of the other two zombies. The other seemed to have stabbed the zombie; from the looks of things they had a relationship, most likely a brother/sister thing. She would call them crazy but not every had a fear of being injured. Kaylah then heard Dog say something though yet had to hear their name, hopefully when the farm was free she could get the names of these people who pretty much saved her.

Dog: "Geez did you have to run in like that? You crazy bro."

Just like that she soon heard someone make a suggestion.

Tony: “As much as I don't want to... if we split up, we can get it all done faster...”

It would be quicker to do so making her wonder who would go with who, would did be decided or would it be go with who you wanted to go with. Maybe the new people in one group and the older in another. Regardless of the setup she needed to ready her weapon, the hockey stick in her hand once more after drawing it out of its holding place. The nerves soon coming back to her as the chance of injury would increase and there was a chance she would be all on her own if things went wrong. Just like before she said something to herself.

Kaylah: “Get a grip, we just survived a town full of the bastards and one of them just killed four in no time. Plus those two other there killed the other two.”

By those two she was referring to Cat and Dog. Clearly the male freaked her out but maybe she would grow to like him, the other interested her more so. In the end this mismatch of people was an interesting bunch, hopefully no one would leave her on her own. Though as she said that her best friend appeared next to her.

The instant splitting up was suggested, Cat turned and walked off further away toward the house with no hesitation, seeming eager to remove himself from the others. The brown haired boyish girl merely sighed and followed after him.

"Guess we'll check the house. I'll give a shout if we need help. Unless you want to come." Dog waved with a cheerful smile before following her brother close behind, cautious as they neared the door.

Creeping closer, Cat leaned against the door and listened inside, listening for any sort of sound. All was quiet, and slowly he opened the door with his left hand, leaning against the door as his right hand held the pipe ready to strike. A soft groan made itself known, complaining of the shifting movement of the door. The tall man did not even spare a quick look as he edged around the corner stabbed the pipe toward the source. A lurker met its end as the pipe strike right through its decayed skull. Lying limply against the door frame.

Pulling out his weapon, the black haired waited for any further sounds, sniffing the air. There was the scent of death, rotting corpses, and a hint of animal. Possible pets here... Alive or undead. He moved into the house, checking corners with Dog following behind, doing the same but checking spots behind her brother.

Olivia, Rena and Lloyd

The undead were mostly taken care of in the yard. Lloyd was quite impressed at how well the group of people handled things. He even witnessed the little redhead taking down a couple. The brunette whistled lowly as the ballet girl side kicked an undead and sent it flying at least five feet. It's head smashed into the side of the chicken coop and the undead did not get up and move after that.

Lloyd watched as the twins (he assumed they were twins) ran into his house. He shook his head at how fast they were taking things, knowing an ambush could be waiting on the other side of the door. He hoped his three inside dogs and three inside cats were still among the living. Before he had ran out of the house, he had tried rounding as many up as he could, locking them in one of the rooms.

"What's in your barn?" The redhead asked. She ran up to Lloyd's side. "I heard something when I was killing an undead over there." She pointed toward his six stalled wooden barn.

"Two horses and a cow," he quickly answered, ducking when an undead seemed to come out of nowhere. The little girl was quick with her broom stick handle. Lloyd stood up straight and blushed. "T-thanks. I should have picked up a weapon from the store."

"It's okay! Did you say horses? Really?" Her green eyes brightened at the idea of seeing something she considered really beautiful and made her think of home. "And a cow?"

"Yes. And chickens." He nodded toward the chicken coop. "I see they are still alive. I've also got dogs and cats inside, but..." He trailed off. He did not mention the dogs and cats that were strays around here. They very well could be infected.

"I forget if I've said so, but I'm Lloyd Mathews and this is my farm. Welcome to Mathew's Farm." He said this loud enough so that everyone nearby could hear him.

"I'm Olivia."
Rena walked over to the undead she had sent flying into the chicken coop. She looked down at it and shoved the tip of her shovel into his head just to be safe. She winced when the head split open like a rotten pumpkin. The sound of clucking got her attention. When she looked up, she felt a rush of wonderment go through her when she saw about 20 live chickens in the decent sized coop. She hadn't seen an alive animal for a while and even though they were chickens, she felt really happy.

"Hi, chicky," Rena said, with a suppressed giggle. She looked into their coop, frowning when she saw they were almost out of their feed. Poor things. Once they had the place secure, she made a promise to herself that she would get them some grains from the grainary she could see. Hopefully it was fully stocked. There was enough corn to go around at any rate.

Rubbing her goo covered pointe shoe into the grass, she kept a lookout for anymore undead, watching as the others did their part to get the yard clear. She ran over to the gate and closed it, making sure it was firmly locked in place. She wondered if there was any barbed wire that they could attach to the top of the fence for added protection. Farms sometimes had things like that laying around. Rena shrugged; she was not a farm girl, so she really had no idea.

"This area is clear," Rena told her companions. She ran to the side of the house and sighed when she saw no undead. "None on the left side. Hows the back and right side look?"

"Right side is clear," Olivia answered. She came from that side, goop and other gross things on her cheeks and the front of her shirt. Rena watched as she walked over to the fairly large pond that was on the property. The ballerina was concerned. What if there were undead just under the surface of the water? Or would they float? She shook her head and ran over to the redhead, before she ducked down to clean herself off.

"Wait," Rena said, pulling the girl back. She bent down and picked up a large rock and threw it into the middle of the pond. She counted a full minute. When nothing happened, she nodded at the girl. "Okay it's clear, but be careful. A lurker could still be in the water. We will need someone to properly check before we decide to use the pond for anything other than gathering water at the sides."

Olivia paled. "I never thought of that. Thanks." She ducked down and washed off her face and hands. There was nothing she could really do about her clothes, but she would change as soon as things were a little less hectic.

The redhead wondered away from Rena and looked around for Mercy. Where had she gone? She bit down on her bottom lip, hoping that nothing bad had happened to her. She really liked Mercy and felt safer when the girl was fighting by her side.
Remy

"Look," Remy whispered back toward Ash and Luka. They had made it to the other side of the cornfield. They made it in time to see a girl wearing ballet shoes closing the gate. Everyone was in the process of fighting the undead, though the yard seemed to be mostly clear. He approved. The small group of people seemed to work well together.

"Do you see Mercy?" He could not remember what she looked like, other than the bow she carried. He did spot the redhead darting around, looking as if she was also looking for someone.

He wanted to get their attention without startling them. None of them wanted a bullet or an arrow coming at their heads. The ballet girl was the closest to them. Remy glanced at his unlikely companions and then at the brunette girl who still seemed to be stuck in her past, what with her strange footwear. He snapped his fingers, watching as the girl stiffened and turned to stare toward the corn field.

"Hey," Rena half whispered. "There's more people." Rena ran over to the fence. "I closed and locked the gate. I don't know who has the key. You'll have to climb over." She gave the three a wary look. "Just do your part. I think the back of the house needs checked."

She ran off and joined Lloyd as he opened the double doors on the barn. He was weaponless, so he must be very confident that no undead were inside. Rena rolled her eyes. The sound of a horse neighing made her run even faster. First chickens and now horses? The ballerina could not believe her luck.

"Oh wow."

She and Lloyd went into the barn and checked on the animals inside. They were spooked, but otherwise seemed fine.

"The barn is clear," She said, after he and Lloyd left it. Lloyd shut it back up and looked around at the others.

The outhouses, grain towers and grainary were checked next. Clear. Clear. Clear. The well was also clean and clear of any bodies, thank goodness.

"Everything outside looks good. The fence is back in place, all that is left is the house." Rena glanced over at the house, wondering if the people who went inside were okay.

"Let's go." Rena squeezed her shovel firmly in her hands.

To Chris' surprise, the members of the group immediately dispersed in accordance to hers and Tony's suggestions. With a look, she communicated to him that she had not expected them to do so, and he shrugged in response. Giving the rest of the group a once-over – a head count, more or less – she marched off towards the back of the house. The rest of the survivors checked everything else, the weirdest pair picked the inside of the house, and Chris had no intention of being alone with them. They had proven perfectly capable of looking after themselves, just as everyone else had.

Tony might have been the only one in the group likely to freeze up or hesitate. Would it make him a target of the others? Chris tugged him closer to her as she walked, muttering a warning to him not to trust any of them.

Both spun around at the sound of more undead, only to see the redhead girl defeat the creature with her broom handle. Baton half raised, Chris swept her eyes across the yard once more, just to make sure there weren't going to be any more unwelcome surprises, and overheard the conversation. “Lloyd and Olivia,” she absently informed Tony, lest his hearing had somehow faltered. She started back towards the house.

“She'll need these,” Chris mumbled, mostly to herself, as she wrenched an arrow from one of the undead. Tossing it at her friend's feet, she gestured to the rest of the fallen and spoke to Tony. “Get the rest of her arrows, but be careful, yeah?” At his nod, she moved around the back of the house.

One lurker sat behind a tree, another faced the wall of the house, and a third stumbled towards her from the middle. She slammed the baton into the side of its head, raised it again and drove the butt end into its soft skull. Before it fell she moved onto the next; the one by the wall. Her legs throbbed and complained, but she ignored the pain. The creature reacted as soon as she was within reach and threw out its arms to grab at her. Chris ducked and pushed it onto its back, then broke into its skull with her baton. Finally, she approached the third.

Tony came to rest at the well with an arm full of arrows. He produced a cloth strip from his backpack and began to wipe the arrows clean while he waited for his friend to come back. He watched the three newcomers appear at the fence, and the ballerina girl welcome them, remaining quiet as the rest of the grounds were checked. Everyone seemed so efficient and he would only get in their way if he tried to help. By the time he finished cleaning the archer's arrows, Chris still hadn't reappeared.

Leaving the arrows in a neat pile beside the well, he slowly approached the house. As he came closer, Chris stumbled around the corner. Fresh blood added to the stains on her fire department shirt and the spatter across her face and arms; the baton in her hands sporting what looked like brain matter. “I'm fine,” she insisted, waving him away when he tried to help her. He hovered at her side as they rejoined the others. “Back of house clear,” she announced.
