Welcome to Adarea

IMPORTANT: It doesn't matter if you didn't read the books. You can still RP here. All the info needed can be found below.

Note: It might seem overwhelming but you do have a choice in all this, to lead your character to a simpler life or to lead one full of politics or wars and interaction. If you have a problem, please post it instead of just leaving. Thank you.
You can contact me via PM for more personal/character based questions or find me on the IRC fairly often for quick discussion.

Adarea is a land of Magic and battle inspired by Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle, the first book being Eragon.
People taking part will be able to explore and adventure through whole of Adarea, which is massive.

Map of gamer5 check out his stuff, he's good.

Ancient Language dictionary. Just ctrl+f and type the word you'd like to use. Make up the words that aren't there or PM me and I can make some up.

So, what's the format on the Character Sheets? I'm pretty much set with how I'm going to write him up anyway.

Its going to be very, very basic. Just let me finish the rest of the post... I'm at the story part and describing the state in which Adaera is in.

Continued from int. check
Hm...
*Xzayler blows air out of his mouth, letting a long hiss*
Well, agh dammit. Could Runes be an option? Dolls with runes inscribed with Ancient Language and able to bring effects?

EDIT: The thing is, if you mean Voodoo dolls like you chose a person and if you put the doll close to fire the person will feel heat and if you break the doll's arm off the guy's arm comes off? That's like, pro assassination from long distance.

Dat ain't how da voodoo works, mon.
Seriously though, it's easy to limit the power of what can be done with voodoo dolls, and that aside you need to have a piece of the person / creature that you've worked in to the doll in order for it to work on them at all. The level that you're talking about is like the kind seen in the movie Stardust, which I agree is broken OP and not at all what I want to do- if my guy wanted to tear someone's arm off, he'd just go grab their arm and tear it off himself. He's a swamp Narven after all, they aren't exactly above brutality. The stuff I had in mind wasn't even so much about that kind of overpowered stuff though, but generally just dark spirit magic- kinda a much more religious / spiritual bent than truename magic. The idea with it is that the power doesn't come from the caster so much as the spirits that they invoke, and a caster being 'powerful' really just means that more spirits listen to them.

Spirit summoning is also possible with the Ancient Language. Some Magic users call on the spirits to obey them and make them do what they want. This doesn't drain the power of the Magician but it is very hard to control the spirits, and things can go very wrong, like losing control and giving birth to a Shade.

So basically, Warlock sort of things. You can manipulate that as you want. The spirits have to be called and ordered. How? Ancient Language. What the spirits do is up to you.

Really not a fan of the ancient language stuff, I might just see if I can think up a different character that doesn't use magic.

That may be, but it's not a type of magic that I've generally been too fond of in any place where I've seen it, and if it really is the only kind of magic available, then I'd rather just not use it. It kinda excludes the entire spiritual side of magic, and means that divine spellcasters aren't using magic because of the grace of their patron god, but because they know how to speak a limerick in the Ancient Language.

Would Gnolls (hyena folk) fit into the setting at all?

What do they do and what is their culture like? Might be able to put them in the great plains near the desert, amongst the Gran'zul.

Name: Anais
Race: Human
Appearance:

Text of whatever: Anais crept quietly over the roof shingles in the middle class district of Gward Haeth, alone with her thoughts and the obscenely bright night stars and moon that didn't believe in being shrouded by the smog of the city. The sky was clear and the distant groans of a drunk in a nearby alley as he collapsed and fell asleep were all to familiar to the human girl. She had been smothered in mundane her entire life, nothing extraordinary happening in her life or in the lives of those around her. She had no skills obvious to her to speak of, despite the fact that she had trained in swords with her father from a young age simply because he didn't believe that his daughter should live the same boring life as everyone around them. He kept that ideology past her mother's death, when it was suddenly almost too difficult for him to be around the laughing, living reminder of his wife and convinced Anais to pack her bags and live the life she was meant to live. And she left her village and somehow made her way to the giant city of Gward Haeth with nothing to do and nowhere to go - and it was almost sad until she realized that she had finally broken the mold.

This looks awesome, now I just need to come up with a character. Will this be somewhat sandbox-ish, or more plot based? Either way, I'm interested.

Hi wolf
It will focus on story but characters will shape the story. So basically a story sandbox :P. Characters can lead men to battle, cause races to attack the Empire, whole areas to rebel and so on. I will intervene if someone does something stupid or unifitting though. And I will also post here and there to add interesting and random things. As well as having an "Evil" and a "Good" character and basically being a narrator as well. At least its how i imagined it.
Also, suggestions are welcome so just speak your mind on what youd like it to focus on.

Sounds good to me! Let me know if I need to change anything with my CS, I've been messing around in the Free section until now, not sure if this is sufficient in the Casual section.

Name: Belgol "Shiny" Grunsson
Race: Dwarf of the Izril clan
Appearance: But with normal hair and glasses
Text of whatever: Belgol set down the perfectly shaped ruby and stretched. The middle-aged dwarf (who happened to be ninety-eight years old) looked around to see if anyone else was up and moving from their stations. His job was boring at times, not that he didn't like gems, any self-respecting dwarf liked gems, but polishing and shaping gem was a little monotonous. Not that he was complaining, it provided steady, safe, work. But sometimes Belgol wished he was someone else, someone braver and more adventurous than little Belgol, the simple gem worker..
