This is meant to be a thread about firearms and stuff. I know there are at least a few people on this forum who have guns and like to shoot.

I'll start by saying that I recently got a really sexy scope for my rifle. Pics to follow.

Also, Obama recently issued an executive order banning Kalashnikovs manufactured at Izhmash from importation into the US.

I have some pictures from when I visited a gun range in Las Vegas last month. That's where I lost my full-auto virginity with a Thompson. Also got to try out a SCAR-L rifle, and some first-hand proof that Desert Eagles are cool and can shoot somewhat accurately, but jam like bad bitches and aren't as up to hype as they are in movies and games.

God bless the 2nd Amendment.

I'm Canadian and I'm probably one of the biggest firearms enthusiasts on the forum. I'd rather this not turn into a silly derpbate that will inevitably draw in the firearms control crowd who are terrified of something they've never properly been exposed to and refuse to understand that normal, law abiding citizens do own firearms without ever breaking the law and the insane firearms rights zealots that will argue for their right to bear arms in every conceivable situation, especially the minute the news says there was another shooting.

Anyways, right now I own an IWI TAR-21, a CZ 858 (which I may have to surrender if the ban isn't repealed within a year and a half ), a Chiappa M1-22, and a Lee Enfield No.4 SMLE. On my to get list is an SKS if I have to surrender my CZ 858, a Moisin Nagant or an SVT 40, and a Remington 870 shotgun. If I do get a Moisin Nagant, I hope to find one with a scope mount.

Also Hatter, is that a Saiga Ak-74 conversion? Looks great! Sucks about the import ban. I don't even know when the last time AKs were legal in Canada.

I'm pretty sure we're sticking to the discussion of the stuff we own and talking about the technical aspects. Or at least, I'm only discussing the technical aspects.

Top to bottom:
- FN Police, a Winchester 1300 with sights. I have since added an L3 technologies flashlight/laser combo via a rail mount I attached. This is a home defense gun.
- Australian SMLE No.1 Mk.III*, 1942, Lithgow
- British Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.II, 1953, Fazakerley
- Springfield 1903A3, 1942, Remington Refurbed job with a Krieger barrel.
- Swiss K31, 1934, Waffenfaberik Bern
- Mosin Nagant M1891/30, Izhevsk.
- AR-15, Colt LE6920 with a Eotech XPS-2 and G33 magnifier (3.3x), a grip-pod, various other shit done to it, and I recently attached a mount for a Surefire M952 on there. (My chef sold me some of this shit cheap; he was getting rid of his after a nasty divorce) I also attached an Israeli sling on there, which I decided that I liked the best of all the options.
- 1911A1, Springfield Armory; the only handgun I'll ever need.

I'll admit that I like old guns way better than new guns.

Also, Obama recently issued an executive order banning Kalashnikovs manufactured at Izhmash from importation into the US.

Which just bumped up the value of your rifle if you ever are so inclined to sell. I'm in a similar situation in my state, where AR-15's are now banned and the value of mine, already grandfathered in, is now higher. Not that I'll ever sell. I don't invest in firearms, I buy them to have and keep. This particularly applies to the old warhorses I tend to buy (as I have largely packed them in arsenal grease and stored them away for the duration) but it also applies to other models.

While i disagree with what you say i will respect your opinion and not turn this into a "silly derpbate"

Yeah, it's a Saiga conversion. Unfortunately, as you can see, it's not complete, and I do plan on dropping another $300 on parts to convert it to the full AK configuration, which means getting new furniture, new FSB and compensator, new gas tube, and maybe even a new gas block, since I'll probably end up ruining the current one in the conversion process.

But yeah, it is a great rifle. Unfortunately, I got kinda screwed on the accuracy, and can't seem to get better than 4 MOA whenever I shoot it, but maybe that's just me. Maybe having the scope will give me a better idea of what's going on.

I have a 1938 Mosin-Nagant as well, which I have recently done a thorough cleaning of to get all the damn cosmoline out. I do love the Mosin, even if it's recoil is a bit unforgiving. I've heard that doing something with the stock can help with that, but I haven't tried it yet. Speaking of stock, there's a nasty crack splitting the stock from the lower screw in my Mosin. Not sure what exactly caused it, but it doesn't seem too severe. I'll leave it be as long as it doesn't decide to splinter off completely. If that does happen, I may invest in an Archangel stock for it. I hate the idea of sporterizing it, but I can't help if the stock I have breaks.

Also, I'll add that you Canadians are lucky on one thing. The T97 NSR. Looks like a beautiful carbine, only problem is that you'll never find one in the US, since we have a bit of a ban on many guns manufactured by Norinco.

I've shot a 97 here in Calgary, and I gotta tell you, the Type 97 is one of those hit-or-miss guns. It's constructed from solid materials, and it is reliable (200+ rounds with no stoppage so far). Its bullpup design also made it shorter, easier to carry at the cost of muzzle closer to your face (bigger muzzle flash). I personally don't like this rifle that much, its iron sights will make your eyes bleed, ergonomics are poor (tiny mag release on the right side, really?) and mounting optics requires specific chicom rails.

Also, my uncle used to work in Norinco, they make everything from MBTs to cartridges.

I'm currently looking at Sig's M400-E, Swiss-made Magpul black rifle.

That right there is why Norinco stuff isn't imported into the US. They tried to sell some heavy duty weaponry, and even an MBT, to some street gang in Florida or something. Fucking idiots.

Well, a year ago he also banned re-importation of ex-US service rifles such as the M1 carbine, and M1 Garand.

Also, due to a merger between Izmash and Izmech, it is now the Kalashnikov Concern.
-So in short, he also banned most Mosin rifles not made in Tula or China*. And all Saiga firearms.

Incidentally, there are fiscal-laws preventing the president from actually enforcing this order due to funds being expressly forbidden.

Izmash also makes some pretty sweet Ural offroad motorcycles.

**This in turn is driving the price of said rifles and ammunition up.

BTW:
own one of those rifles, BTW; '42, early Round-wall, seems to have lost its original bayonet inside a german, was re-stocked after an arty-strike in summer of '43, and had parts of its bolt replaced with parts salvaged from a wrecked Tula hex-reciever'd Mosin sometime around '44 in the Ukraine.

At some point I tried slapping a weaver-rail on the side without turning down the bolt. Works great in theory but the cheap aluminum rail (intended for Rem 597, .22 cal) tends to swell and strip the bolts (cut-down electrical-box screws). Oh, and my Mosin also caught fire from shooting it a bit too fast.

Clearly superior firearm. And Obama somehow banned it.

Makes me regret not getting three or four mosins. But once I bought my second Enfield, I was sort of done with gun buying. I have the guns that I want/love.

Yeah, at least I managed a mildly historically significant Mosin from early '42 from just as Izmech was ordered to stop making SVT-40s (evidenced by earlier and more refined milled detents (replaced with stamped detents by summer of '43) and parts from the evacuated Tula plant [matching (not force-matched) serial numbers indicate they were all built for each other, and not from a scrap parts-bin]).

Ran into an enfield at a pawn shop, cycled the bolt a few times and didn't like the feel. Closing it on an empty chamber was hard enough, closing it with expanded brass would be downright painful on my fists. Maybe it was just a headspacing issue.

Ammunition has finally gotten ridiculous, I remember buying mine largely as a "heavy recoil simulator" to ease into handling 20 gauge 1 oz slugs, since $0.10/rd beats $1/shell any day. So when my stockpile dries up it'll largely become a wall-hanger I can hunt with if I felt like it, but not as a primary.

An enfield bolt should be butter freakin' smooth. If it's not, there is a problem. To be fair, enfields are hard to get in good condition anymore, and I barely scraped mine out, I think. I got lucky.

Well, to be fair, I still think my Mosin's action is pretty slick despite its crude build, managing 200+ rds in less than half an hour.

If you guys are able to buy Moisins or SKSs from Canada, they're almost universally 200 and 160 respectively, and ammunition is cheap and plentiful.

Yeah, there are a lot of Chinese SKS's still on the market here in the US. I doubt the Mosin supply is really running out either, and a lot of those are coming from Ukrainian and Belorussian arsenals.

I have to wonder why no US manufacturers have reverse-engineered and built their own Russian weapons. Mosins, SKSs, AKs, maybe even SVDs, if one bought one of the ~127 that are actually in the US.

Man, that would be the day. US made SVDs built to Russian specs.

Robinson Arms did for a while, they made an AK variant called a VEPR.

Also, I had that backwards. The Moisin is 160 and the SKS is 200.
