Ahem. . . Excuse me? Final Fantasy IV's official, tiny world size is smaller than two US states the size of Maryland. Skyrim's armies and population are much larger than Final Fantasy IV's, according to information I think I can hear in-game. Yet Skyrim, the representative of Scandinavia for Nirn. . . is 1 percent or less than DENMARK.

My home town of Farmington, New Mexico, is around 16+ miles in area. Whole miles mind you, not square miles.
-_-
Whole miles are larger than square miles.

The fifth installment of The Elder Scrolls takes place in Skyrim, where peace is threatened by the ongoing civil war between a Nordic separatist faction and the Empire's IV Legion, as well as the return of the dragons under the game's main antagonist, the great dragon Alduin.
Skyrim is the northernmost region of Tamriel and its geography consists of mountains, snowy tundras, pine forests, rural countrysides, and arctic plains. Its architecture and atmosphere is very similar to the town of Bruma in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Although it is roughly the same size as Oblivion's Cyrodiil (approximately 41 square kilometers in area or 15.8 square miles), it is the least populated of all regions in Tamriel and features more lush forests and grassy areas than Cyrodiil. Although there are only five cities within the province, most are larger than the cities of Cyrodiil and are complemented with smaller townships dotted through the land with huge swathes of wilderness separating them all.

Because a game with as much content at Skyrim really needed to be lagged out by a sea of meaningless NPCs every time you approached one of the holds.

Reminding everyone again that Daggerfall has over 750,000 npcs spread across 62,394 square miles of terrain.

So basically it is only slightly bigger than a half marathon and you run a hell of a lot slower than someone just strolling said half marathon.

My point is, Elder Scrolls can go ahead and say that Skyrim is a reasonable size and keep all the game play and stuff the same.

Daggerfall can't hold a candle to Arena. You wanna walk to a town two days north of where you are right now? Prepare to play the game for 48 straight hours doing nothing but walking.

The pillars of creation and time are falling one-by-one and you're worried about how many NPC's you can communicate with in just one imperial province? Dude, priorities.

EDIT: Lest you don't know what I'm talking about, read this.

I'm more worried about how Elder Scrolls Online came after Skyrim, one of the greatest gifts of God delivered to Bethesda he gave to Mankind.

1. Install the 'Inconsequential NPCs' mod, and clear this right up. Supplement with 'Populated roads,' and other such population mods. Suddenly you need a party of ten to clear a fortress -- and that's awesome.

2. ESO revisited Skyrim (albeit in an earlier age) and did a much, MUCH better job of filling it up with NPCs.
